June 4, 2021 The Sonoma County Planning Commission are delaying approving an ordinance to fully regulate winery events. The commission voted 5-0 to have county staff revise the ordinance saying they were concerned with the wording defining some events as “winery event” and others as “agricultural promotion events.” The ordinance, which would still need approval of the Board of Supervisors, sets a variety of rules for winery events in unincorporated areas ranging from parking and traffic management, food service, coordination with neighbors and noise limits. As of 2016, 307 wineries have been approved for tasting rooms, and of those, about 155 have permits for events.
