A workforce housing proposal will have another chance in front of the St. Johns County Commission. This month, commissioners rejected the rezoning proposal for 198 single-family units and 124 multi-family units south of State Road 16 and east of Four Mile Road, citing concerns about density, traffic and flooding. The project would have used the county's new Workforce Housing Zoning District, which would require at least 40% of the houses to be priced at $210,000 or less. Commissioner Jeb Smith, noting that Chair Jeremiah Blocker wasn't present for that discussion, requested at Tuesday's meeting that the Commission hear the item again. Commissioners supported the decision 5-0.
