As 2020 came to a close, the COVID-19 related headlines started showing how the second wave was taking off.
While Cornwall, and the northern portion of Akwesasne, had avoided the deluge of cases seen in some parts of Prescott-Russell in the spring and summer, the cumulative and active caseloads just kept increasing through the month of December.

The city started the month with a 140 cases from the first eight months of the pandemic, but closed out the month with 267 cases, a 90 per cent increase. More often than not, the daily updates posted to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit’s website included double-digit increase in caseloads, enough to push the region from the Yellow-Protect level of restrictions in the provincial COVID-19 framework, to the Orange-Restrict.
