Star photographer says goodbye When I started my journey at The Star in September 2007, I didn’t know how deeply and profoundly the community I was stepping into would affect me. My first day as an intern that September day, I cried ... a lot. I was a terrified, timid 20-something stepping into a new job where I had to fend for myself. I had no idea what to expect, and I didn’t know anyone. I promise I didn’t spend the next 14 years crying. I spent them growing my skills in photojournalism, my relationships with a community, and of course myself.
