Rancho Mirage’s "Great Plates Delivered" program, which gets gets meals from local restaurants delivered to the homes of residents most vulnerable to contracting coronavirus, has been extended to June 7. The state and FEMA-funded program was launched statewide by Gov. Gavin Newsom last April to ensure those 60 and older would be getting three hot meals a day while isolating in their homes. Most programs are overseen by the Office on Aging, but Rancho Mirage early on requested to run the program within the city — the only city to do so in Riverside County. The participating restaurants began delivering meals May 8, 2020.
