A state of emergency for parts of Canterbury worst affected by recent flooding will be extended for seven days, Civil Defence has announced. The state of emergency will remain in place in Ashburton, Selwyn and Waimakariri districts but will be lifted elsewhere across the region, the Canterbury Civil Defence emergency management group said. The declaration, made at 4pm on Thursday, means the state of emergency will be lifted for Christchurch, Kaikōura and Waimate.
