State Police report details on officers' shooting of suspect

State Police released the names of an officer and the man he shot during a standoff in Socorro earlier this month, along with details of what led up to the incident.

State Police spokesman Dusty Francisco said 32-year-old Richard Zamora, a burglary suspect, was shot and injured on Dec. 5 when he pointed a gun at officers.
He said the gun turned out to be a BB pistol and Sgt. Armando Reyes-Llamas, the 11-year veteran who fired, was placed on administrative leave.

Zamora was treated for his injuries and has been booked into the Socorro County Detention Center. He is charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, burglary, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and arson, among others.
