Steamboat Geyser is erupting less in Yellowstone By: John Sherer and last updated 2021-07-23 17:42:18-04 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK â Yellowstone National Parkâs huge Steamboat Geyser is erupting less often than at any time since it came back to life more than three years ago. Beginning in 2018, a lucky few people would cheer loudly when they saw Steamboat Geyser thunder to life, shooting 300 feet or more into the air while sounding like a jet engine. But Steamboat, the worldâs tallest active geyser, was spoiling its fans, erupting on average every five to 10 days. The brakes went on in May of this year. Since then, it has erupted only twice.
