Michael Vahey, assistant professor of biomedical engineering in the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, will investigate how two proteins on the surface of influenza virus influence how many viruses enter a cell and how infection spreads with a five-year, nearly $2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.
