There is a good chance for thunderstorms in the valley this afternoon and tonight. Posted: Jan 28, 2021 7:24 AM Posted By: Cort Klopping More rain and snow are on the way for your Thursday forecast, and we'll also have a slight chance for thunderstorms in the valley this afternoon and tonight. The Winter Storm Warning is still in effect for the northern Sierra through 2am Friday morning and for the Southern Cascades through 4am Friday morning. We could still see up to 3 feet of snowfall in our higher elevations in those areas, and hazardous travel conditions are expected. Snow levels will be down to around 3500' to 4000' in the Sierra and Cascades today. The Shasta County Mountains, Trinity County, and Siskiyou County are now under a Winter Weather Advisory. This will stay in effect through 10am this morning in Siskiyou and Trinity County areas, and through 4pm this afternoon in Shasta County mountain areas. Snow levels are projected to be as low as 2000' in Shasta County, and down to around 2500' to 3000' in Siskiyou and Trinity Counties. Isolated areas of colder air could bring localized snow levels down to around 1500' in some areas, but that doesn't look very likely. Valley and foothill areas will see rain today, but the far upper foothills may get a mix of rain and snow through your Thursday. The potential for thunderstorms will return to our valley areas today, and will continue into tonight. If thunderstorms do develop you can expect them to be accompanied by strong winds and hail. We'll see pockets of heavy rain in the valley and foothills through the day, and snow in our mountain areas. Temperatures are starting out in the 40's in teh valley, 30's to 40's in the foothills, and 20's to 30's in our mountain areas this morning. Winds will be up to around 15mph out of the South, but we could have gusts up to 25mph in the valley. Stronger gusts will be possible in the Sierra. High temperatures will top out in the mid 40's to low 50's in the valley, in the mid 30's to mid 40's in the foothills, and in the lower 30's to lower 40's in our mountain areas.
