After a beautiful Derby Day and mainly dry weekend, the pattern will shift to a more active one with plenty of rain and storm chances as we tackle another work week.After some scattered showers and storms early today, we should see a break in the action later this afternoon/evening. Despite the rain chances and cloud cover, highs are expected to climb above normal with thermometers in the 70s. The break from the rain doesn't last long as our next disturbance makes its move into the our region tonight. With plenty of moisture funneling in from the Gulf of Mexico and storm energy to work, the threat for strong to severe storms will be possible. The main threats with developing storms overnight and into your Tuesday morning will be damaging winds and large hail. An isolated spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out with this setup. The entire WLKY viewing area remains under a "slight risk" or a severe level of 2 out of 5. Storms are expected to fire up later tonight, especially after midnight, firing off to our west and congealing into a line before tracking eastward into the area early Tuesday morning. Storm chances will stick around through Tuesday afternoon as a cold front finally moves through the area. This could spark off additional thunderstorm activity with some stronger storms possible. The Storm Prediction Center has areas along and east of Interstate 65 placed under the 'slight risk' category which is 2 out of 5 on the severe levels. Drier skies will take over through Wednesday morning as lingering showers clear the area and push eastward. Cooler air settles in as highs fall back into the 60s. Another system takes aim at the region Thursday night and Friday as additional rain chances return to the forecast. The break doesn't last long as more storm chances show up once again this weekend.
