The Sugar Land City Council recently approved a contract to purchase materials for wireless communications upgrades as part of its Capital Improvement Program (CIP), a May 21 news release from the city said. The city said its High Site Communication Improvements project aims to improve the cityâs wireless network to help in supporting citywide connectivity for systems that support license plate recognition cameras, traffic signals, corridor timing and other communications among Sugar Landâs utility system and operators. Funding for the roughly $2.33 million project will come from a combination of a federal loan awarded to the city and additional city funds. The loan will cover 80 percent of the project cost, or about $1.86 million, while the city will contribute about $466,143 for purchasing the materials, according to city spokesperson Doug Adolph.
