Sultanate marks World Bee Day Published: 10:56 PM, May 20, 2021 4-(1) SHARE MUSCAT: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, on Thursday joined the international community in celebrating the World Bee Day, which falls on May 20 every year. The United Nations (UN) marks this day to increase awareness about bee pollinators and the role they play in sustainable development, the risks facing pollinators, and support taking protective measures for the safety of pollinators, which would help significantly in solving global food supply issues. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources seeks to develop the bees sector in Oman by conducting programmes that support beekeepers, organising orientation programmes, legislating the sector, and organising two honey markets annually in order to increase awareness about the importance of honey as both a type of food and as a contributor to the Sultanate's economy.
