Suspended Sentence in Felony Theft Case – Sheridan Media

At an arraignment hearing in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan last December, 32-year-old Sean Vance entered a plea of “not guilty by reason of mental impairment or deficiency” to the charge of Felony Theft for allegedly taking over $2,400 in merchandise from Wal-Mart in Sheridan on November 11.  Due to the plea that was entered by Vance, a mental health evaluation was ordered to determine if Vance was competent to proceed. An evaluation conducted by the Wyoming State Hospital found Vance competent and the report was adopted by District Court Judge John Fenn at a hearing in March.
At a hearing Thursday, Judge Fenn accepted the terms of  the plea agreement made with the State and sentenced Vance to 2 to 4 years in prison, suspended in lieu of two years of supervised probation. Vance was also ordered to pay $325 in various court costs and $500 in attorney fees.
