SWaCh in lurch, PMC calls for waste-collection tender SWaCh in lurch, PMC calls for waste-collection tender ByVijay ChavanVijay Chavan / Updated: May 9, 2021, 06:00 IST The standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday decided to call tenders for waste collection in the city to replace the not-for-profit organisation SWaCH comprising around 10,000 waste collectors. This has led to widespread anger and despair among the workers. Already suffering during the pandemic, the added uncertainty about their livelihoods has made the waste collectors question the civic body’s move. They have stressed their role in collection and disposal of waste of COVID patients, saying no civic employee would have taken a similar risk.
