Swampscott has elevated the town’s animal control officer, Daniel Proulx, to full time status, as the town endeavors to move his duties from the Health Department to the Police Department. In the near future, Swampscott Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald said he plans to present the Swampscott Board of Selectmen with a recommendation to place the town’s animal control operations under the Police Department. “Having the Police Department really work hand in hand with the animal control function can really be a powerful synergy between both of those functions,” said Fitzgerald.
