'It's a step in the right direction': Council officially backs conversion therapy ban

Businesses that offer conversion therapy, the widely discredited practice of attempting to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, are officially outlawed in Saskatoon.
City council voted 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon in favour of the bylaw prohibiting the businesses, after hearing from several speakers and receiving hundreds of letters supporting the ban.

Hill was absent from Tuesday’s public hearing on the bylaw.
Coun. Randy Donauer cast the sole dissenting vote after his proposed amendment, which would have excluded voluntary, non-coercive counselling for consenting adults from the definition of conversion therapy, failed to find a seconder.
