Here’s a tricky question. Which 19th century politician had the most lasting effect on the county of Wicklow in particular? Easy, you may say. It surely had to be Parnell, Charles Stewart of that ilk – that’s the obvious answer. Parnell, after all, led a party in parliament. He had close ties to Arklow, of course. And the family seat was in Rathdrum.
