Andy Jackson/Stuff Taranaki Regional Council said the loss of jobs in the oil and gas sector had been significantly understated by the Climate Change Commission. Draft advice to the Government on reducing the effects of climate change by 2050 would disproportionately overburden Taranaki and hit jobs, regional council officers have warned. The estimated 600 jobs that would be lost from the oil and gas sector under the Climate Change Commission’s (CCC) initial proposals had been “significantly understated”, Taranaki Regional councillors were told on Tuesday. They were considering their officers’ initial response to the CCC's draft consultation report on transitioning away from fossil fuels.
