Taxable sales up 2.8 percent in February compared to a year ago


Taxable sales increased 2.8 percent in February, finishing the month at $4.92 billion.
But the state is still down when compared to the same seven months of last fiscal year. Collections for that period were $41.5 billion compared to $43.4 billion.
In Carson City, total sales for the month were $111.79 million. As always, car sales was the big contributor at $33.78 million. Other key categories were general merchandise stores at $13.2 million, building supplies at $11.66 million and food services and drinking places at $9 million.
Douglas County reported $70.3 million in taxable sales. That is just about $5 million more than last February. The big category there is eating and drinking places at $9.99 million, namely hotel-casinos at south shore Lake Tahoe. General merchandise stores follow at $8.39 million.
