South Bend Tribune Detectives with the St. Joseph County Special Victims Unit arrested a teenager Wednesday in connection to a weekend shooting that left a 10-year-old girl hospitalized with a bullet wound to her face. The 15-year-old appeared in juvenile court Wednesday on preliminary suspicion of pointing a gun and criminal recklessness. Police say the teen shot the girl on accident in the jaw during an "unsupervised gathering of pre-teens and young teenagers" at the Castle Point Apartment complex on Saturday. Officers were first called to the apartment complex off Cleveland Road around 9:30 that evening for reports of a girl who had been shot.
