Teledyne COSMOS camera focuses on astronomical imaging Teledyne Imaging is introducing COSMOS, its large-format, back side illuminated (BSI) CMOS camera, which is optimised for astronomy. Specifically, the camera is aimed at ground-based astronomical imaging (for example, exoplanet characterisation and discovery, orbital object tracking and time domain astronomy). The company writes: Built around Teledyne’s proprietary LACera image sensor technology, COSMOS delivers deep-cooled, low-noise performance on a multi-megapixel scale with global shutter, 18-bit readout, and glow reduction technology. COSMOS addresses many of the challenges of today’s CMOS technology by maintaining performance when scaling to larger formats and combining speed and low noise.
