Here we are, on the cusp of a new year we all so very happy to see. Before I tell you what the Bee Cave library is planning for the next couple of months, I want to take a minute to express my gratitude for the good things that came out of this very difficult year. Our mayor, City Council and city manager worked very hard to keep our community as safe as possible while being mindful of the need to keep city services functioning. At the library, that meant we were given the flexibility to rethink how we fulfill our mission of fostering a sense of community and promoting lifelong learning. When the library doors closed to the public in mid-March, our city leaders gave us time to develop new ways to serve the public safely and encouraged us to be creative in using every library staff member’s particular talents and strengths to meet new challenges. For some of us, that meant assisting the city’s Economic Development Corporation in creating the Small Business Assistance Center website and facilitating the application process for grants to our local businesses struggling during the pandemic.
