The Day - Spicer deserves recognition, but not Route 12 stretch named for sub vets - News from southeastern Connecticut

I just read the article suggesting that part of Route 12 be named in honor of Parke Spicer, “Bill would name portion of Route 12 in Preston for Parke Spicer,” (Jan. 29). Parke was a good man. A man of integrity and honor and a personal friend. He did a lot in the town of Preston and is worthy of having a road named in his honor.
However, that road was already named U.S. Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway. In 2002, I was directly involved with the help of Rep. Nancy Demarinis to have Route 12 from Groton to Preston named U.S. Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway, in memory of all submariners and to honor all those who have served on submarines. Legislation under Substitute House Bill 5527 Public Act No. 02-123 dated June 7, 2002 was approved honoring all those who have served in U.S. Submarines.
