Picture: SUPPLIED. An employee of the Ministry of Education in the Western Division is under investigation by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) for misusing $300,000. Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum revealed this in Parliament recently, saying that the employee abused the funds reserved for transportation of students in rural areas in the Western Division to schools. “This one person actually created accounts, and a lot of it to do is in the Western Division, where they were falsely paying out money for people supposedly carrying these kids, when they weren’t carrying the kids or overpaying them,” he said. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said these funds, under the Ministry of Education, was targeted at transporting students in rural areas either via minibus or outboard fibreglass boats.
