Former resort workers along the Coral Coast who lost jobs because of COVID- 19 have taken up casual work in Lami Town so they can send their kids to school.
This, according to Lami District Council of Social Services president Asaeli Naisoro. He said people were taking desperate measures to put food on the table and buy stationery, uniforms, bags and sandals so their children can begin classes come January 19.
“Some have left their family in Nadroga to do odd jobs like working in a butchery in Lami Town because they need money to buy school stuff,” Mr Naisoro said.
