Wicked Local Rev. Devlin Scott saw potential in the nondescript basement at 1175 Walnut St., and is moving ahead with plans to transform it into a multipurpose space for church services and as a community resource. Sitting across from the Newton Highlands T stop near where Lincoln and Walnut streets meet, the very thick interior walls provide evidence of its previous life as a bank vault. There are several staircases that lead to nowhere, and the interior walls are painted a chalky mint green. However, Scott aims to redesign the basement and make it right for his ambitious plan. “I saw the potential,” said the NewCity Church pastor during a recent tour.
