This Connecticut teacher was trying to help his neighbors with groceries but when he raised over $40,000 on Facebook, he ended up with a $16,000 tax bill

Louis Goffinet, a 26-year-old teacher at Lebanon Middle School who lives in Mansfield, started shopping for some elderly friends who were nervous about going to the grocery store.
Last April, Louis Goffinet, a 27-year-old middle school teacher from Mansfield, started grocery shopping for elderly neighbors who were afraid to go to the store at the start of the pandemic.
More people needed help. He was spending his own money because some people needed financial help. He decided to start a Facebook fundraiser. He set a $200 limit.
