They are card carrying members of the confederated tribes of the grand rom, dating back to a treaty signed by the chief. He died, hanged by the army before the tribe was formed. That could be enough for disenrolment. Why is this happening. Greed is a possibility. If i want to speculate, it could be. This is the money source. The tribes profitable spirit of the win casino provides millions for social programs and direct per cap ita payments to tribal members 3,000 5,000 a year. This is a national issue. We have seen them on the east coast, in california, and certainly in the west. Native american law expert ron white ner tracks disenrolment efforts to the rise of tribal gambling, but cant say casino money is causing it here. The push from the gaming revenue provided a reason for tribes to look closely, for who is eligible to be enrolled and who is not. The grand rom government denies that is happening saying it is part of a plan to strengthen the tribe and make sure those that receive benefits deserve them. Requests for an interview were turned down. They wont have a tribe at all. The family fight goes on. One site saying prayers for the outcome, the other saying little publicly about what is behind it all. The enralment battle comes at a time when tribes are profiting from casino. A movie about men who saved artwork from the nazis. And 8,000yearold footprints discovered in europe. Big news in baseball. Alex rodriguez had a change of hard. Arod dropped his lawsuits against major league baseball, and everyone. And will accept a suspension for the upcoming season, including playoff games. He will forfeit his 25 million salary that he would have made and will be 40 years young when hes eligible to return in 2015. The league issued this statement now, the Players Union issued a statement saying earlier tonight i got a chance to speak to a sports attorney. The big question why did arod drop the charges. He claimed he didnt do anything wrong . The problem with arod continuing with all of these lawsuits is some point in time he would find himself under oath in a deposition and would have to say officially whether he had used substances that triggered the suspension. Unfortunately theres a mountain of evidence suggesting that if he had said that he may have been subject to perjury. Can arods attorneys develop a strategy to get back on the field . No. The fact that he filed would be evidence against him if he came back and challenged it. This is the end of this drama. Alex rodriguez accepted his suspension and will not play the postseason games and his attorney said he will not return spring training. Thank you ross shimabuku. Its the true story behind the movie in theatres. The monument men were art curators and historians, volunteering for military service to rescues treasures from the nazis. Another mission was under way between museums. The Monuments Men bills itself as a band of brother. George clooneys characters leads a crew that knows more been michael angelo. Sam epstein, the character, was inspired by harry eplinger. Born in germany, his family fled for america in 1938, the day after his bar mitzvah. They recommended that we leave that afternoon. Travelling on saturday, thats the way conditions were. He would return to germany a 19yearold private. When heading for the front, an officer discovered he was fluent in german. He said, good, sit in the chair and this guy will tell you what to do. That was my entry into the Monuments Men. He spent much of the rest of the law plundering through works stashed in salt mines. The goal return them to their rightful owners. This is one of the works rescued by the Monuments Men. It was in the collection of louie rothschild. The entire collection was looted another side of the story played out above europe. Allied bomber pilots had maps of targets to hit, and more than 700 maps like these, drawn up by a team working in the frik art reference library. The maps are to make sure the buildings were not destroyed or bombed. Thats exactly right. They were distributed to the air corp so the bombing pilots would not hit the Leaning Tower of pis a. Without the efforts, the Leaning Tower of the pisa may have been reduced to rubble. It was made by a decision to safeguard, rather than destroy. I believe its the only time a country at war bent over backwards to preserve the treasures of the enemy. For harry. Being a monuments man is a source of patriotism. For a brief period of time in civilisation, a company adapted a policy not to take things, but return them to their rightful owner. I, as an american, am proud of doing that. Proud of an effort that saved millions of Cultural Treasures from the most destructive war in history. In england archeologists found footprints believed to be 800,000 years old. We spoke to bill kim ble who talks about what that discovery means for human evolution. The scientists who authored the paper report the discovery of footprints made by some of the earliest inhabitants of Northern Europe. In particular great britain. Roughly 800,000, 900,000 years old. They represent a small number of different individuals, some of whom they infer to have been young and others adult, based on the size of the footprints. They have a series of footprints helping us discern how early europeans moved about the landscape, the sorts of behaviour in terms of foraging they may have been engaged in, about their height and weight, which we can tell from the footprints. They are not the earliest footprints. These are some of the earliest. Footprints outside of africa are rare. It sheds light on what early population will be like. We have the ability to take a step closer to the individuals who were walking on the landscape in this part of Northern Europe hundreds of thousands of years ago. One step closer because we dont have to rely on their fossil or archeological remains, for example, but instead can see where the feet hit the ground, so to speak. And to learn something about their body weight, the size of their strides, how fast they might have moved during various types of behaviour, like foraging or moving from place to place. Apparently the footprints include young and older individuals and something about social structure of the early europeans. Each of the prints needs to be studied in great detail and compared to the footprints in other places at other times. In order to make sense of them in the context of the scheme of human emotion. Preserving the prints presents a challenge for scientists. Game under way for the Winter Olympics , and now you are looking at live pictures out of sochi russia. Im Morgan Radford.
