From one Sam to another Sam Eagle needs no introducing on the show but you know I just couldn't resist including his new single in tomorrow night's b.b.c. Introducing mixtape before I head off so it's called The things you taught me and it's all the things we love about Sammy go take a listen. So. You're going to close to the flying too soon to the be too soon. So don't see Gone didn't fancy of would be the finest I thought so soon Kong was going to mail it. To Louis communication with so concentration. Only. I think you can but I'm thinking long. Since. Why do I like that let me count the ways it's playful dense and engaging as usual and sound legal somehow manages to pack more musical miracle ideas into 3 minutes the many artists manage in an entire album his new single the things you taught me and you'll find him on Twitter at Sam's music baby and we have a reaction to Floyd Louise toll in Belfast tweeted this is great and with regard to the new record from she makes war undone folky punk cast to it is over she is fab with a case of course she is and I'm sure we will hear more from her when I'm back in November anyway the quite brilliant playing for us law in the studio shortly after the b.b.c. News with Nick if she expects to see. This is b.b.c. Radio t.v. B.b.c. News at 9 30 am Nicky card while the vice president of Indonesia has said the number of people killed in yesterday's earthquake and tsunami could rise to thousands nearly 400 people are known to have died but there's been no word yet from the city at the epicenter of the quake where it's feared many people could still be trapped inside collapsed buildings a spokesman for Indonesia's emergency agency said the military was helping coordinate the rescue operation and it was number one evacuation and identifying the dead are still in progress and we estimate the number of casualties from both the court and the tsunami will increase further in Dongola and Palo We've also received reports that tsunami waves reached as high as 6 meters and some people saved themselves by climbing trees the Conservative Party has apologized for a security flaw which affected the official phone app designed for its annual conference in Birmingham the glitch meant people were able to access the private details of attendees resulting in pranksters phoning senior ministers spokesman said. Says the economic sanctions a deepening its mistrust of the United States speaking to the un General Assembly in New York the country's foreign minister without trust there was no way. With the 6 lead over the United States. Became the 1st of a year when. You know we want to we want to win this. And. 6. This is the. Solution. For you. To. See. I ladder was pulled. Back as an m.p. As I don't buy it. By me. And my family. But. They got. A strange. Feeling. Right. Just slowed. Down the economy. Take. That's the amazing strong Asian mothers all I do is their current single comes out on the 19th of October and that's being added to the 6 music playlist I think as of this weekend you listen to 6 Music I am Tom Robinson and in August this year we had an extraordinary interview with a guest who has rejoined us now in the studio to come and actually perform live on Air Force Welcome back to Cosmo Sheldrake Holocaust and other. You're in the next film room we look at each other through a glass partition designed to separate the artist from presenter but also to get a proper separated sound What could you describe the set up that you've got there in front of you I've got a loop pedal and a couple of midi controllers triggering samples from my laptop. And I've got vocal effects pedal and a mixer I don't use you have to not one but 2 microphones One is that one just send a clean signal and one when I loop when I put the vocals into the loop and it's also running for delay and I read. The album that much much how is incredibly densely produced with a huge range of instruments and huge care being taken about the sonic layers there but you perform with this looping set up how do you manage to kind of really reconcile the 2 I don't really know it's grown out because when I started performing it would just be improv just singing really into a loop pedal and it's developed from there so it's kind of a work in progress and I'm just kind of making do that I mean I'd love to be able to travel with a big band but not quite yet but yes and so I just piece it down into samples and build build layers and the 1st song of yours I think that we really got behind and started playing it was come along. Bring the kind of joyful and life affirming and upbeat What was the kind of. Feeling behind that when he wrote the song. It was a mixture of a few things really as I. Began really when I was I was trying to make a posthumous Lee over the top introduction to a piece of music and then I started with that and then and then I had to make a piece of music to follow it really but I think the sentiment it came a lot from this sense of trying not to waste time and as a phrase that my dad often said I said I remember him saying. When I referred to killing time as I don't you know that's. Do that so I say that's kind of the sentiment but yeah has a lot of other imagery in it to. Wait to hear what it sounds like it's live in culmination of this over to you live on 6 Music cause my shoulder Thank you. Absolutely. As it happens Peter's. Misbehaving never work with children animals or digital audio technology I. Think. I'll just make some amps interlude music Ok fix these. Conflicts. And you can prove. What I'm. Not I'm. Not I'm. Not going to. Flash it affected by now. And. Have I will see Ok once again like about 6 me gets Cosmo Sheldrake. a song they. Don't. Sheldrake's album the much much how while and I loving those lyrics thinking only Alice in Wonderland references with the in the border grows with the slide to tell just slide that in the. Pubs break he'll fast with friends it's completely gorgeous he is saying the he album is about how the relationship with the environment but it doesn't come across as a sort of hectoring all lecturing in the wolf kind of thing it's very uplifting some when I tried to avoid that is also so much that I think isn't going to have a kind of positive. It's just nice to be able to celebrate as well in through times of darkness to light and I just it's important in my life. To try and bring some joy to and there's so much. So much I don't know there's not enough to fill music maybe it's so I think it's important to celebrate it definitely adding to the sum of that the next song is Pliocene. Yeah Pliocene. You said when you came in in August that it was about deep time as opposed to kind of time but I guess Pliocene is an epoch So it's trying to engage this notion of just yet the depths of time which is quite hard to actually wrap your head around really. So some of that I mean it's like humans have been on the on the planet for the tiniest scratch of you know the history of the universe. And it's also I was thinking quite a lot about endangered species an extinct species were making this a lot of the other record and it features the sound of a raven that was recorded by a man named by any Krauss is a great soundscape ecologist and is recorded in Algonquin National Park in Canada I would just play if I can find and play the sound of the Raven. That's the sound of a raven from I'm going to National Park. So you know I was just thinking thinking a lot yeah around that notion of extinction endangered species and time. Seem to move from the studies to the drums with fish Yes the other jumps the drums a made from recordings of fish that the American military recorded during the Soviet during the cold water trying to stingers Dean Soviet submarines and fish I just got those handy Yes So this is this isn't wasted toadfish on the kick drum. And and then this is about to parrot fish. Which goes around during coral reefs. Which also link a critically endangered ecosystem and being rapidly bleached. So yeah bucktoothed parrot fish back to pack fish there they go and they've got beaks and they go and just chewing coral is fantastic it sounds exactly like its name. And then And then on the base is a recording of a pig. Just through there and they're just. Charismatic big. Barking Mad It's. Great. Here come. In. The extraordinary Pliocene from cold Michel direct from his album the much much how and why this picture in the sound of deep time in the fish record is a region hit by Bernie Krauss there's a connection with Bernie crowds and you co-producer on the album Matthew Hood how did you get Matthew involved in helping you with that with the mixing. I'm not really sure I've been making a lot of pieces out of animal animal song in. And I was just aware of Matthew's music and and I just I don't know I just felt like it might be a natural fit and I emailed him and we started talking and just over a period of time I started sending him pieces that I was working on and he started feeding back on them and so yeah we just built up a correspondence over time and and then he agreed to mix it which is great all the future kind of collaboration's in Saudi to the point I certainly hope so I mean we just he got in touch recently we did a project called the drip e.p. Where me and 3 other artists were given him included were given recordings of dripping interesting tap and then had to make a dance track out of that so we were just really I mean that came out a few weeks ago so so yeah we just did that which is great but yeah hopefully. I'm definitely going to be checking that one out from the book but I've got to go to Matthew who tracked lined up next because 2005 he had not sure which was made entirely out of the sounds of food preparation and production. We're going to hear celebrity featuring Donny Cicely on a right after this. Because if we can we take a moment to slow down and he says keep the most of life in the we can pressure so Band see. The. Band. It was. Oh those oh. Go. Go go go. Go go Ok Tory Ok Victoria. Victoria look beyond saying something. Kayla makes it. Funny. Oh no I'm. Gonna. Go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go go slowly go go Sarah go go go go. So putting money. In the strings are. Funny. You mean. It's go go go go go. Go. Just sort of. Go David go Victoria go beyond say that's the liberty from 2005 Matthew Herbert and Denny silly on it from the album plants do sure we have the e-mail in from Jacob thrall Jacob and throw in Nazareth North Yorkshire where my mother was born actually this evening they say sees us making pizzas in our wood stove at the request of our son Isaac for his birthday as the birthday in question is his 6th this is evening is drawing to a close for him and Isabel his 7 year old sister cake then bed me thinks but said evening has quite a lot of life left in it for us too maybe more pizza definitely more wine doubtless more music we'll do our best with that in the end just a moment but Duncan swim. Has texted 6046 to say Evening Tom is kosmos Heldrich his real name I think his music is wonderful by the way where can you guess it. It isn't it isn't your real name cosmos hell Drake is it Cosmo Sheldrake it's spelled almost the same and yet some completely differently but if you Sheldrake into Twitter or indeed into Google you'll find the number one result it's not hard to find your music is it really. So . I'm now in a position we find ourselves on the Sunday afternoon I'm home this station where we have a program called now playing 6 Music where we have an empty computer screen with no idea what is going to come in and we wait for the listeners to send us songs suggestions and stuff I have no idea what you are now going to play and apparently neither do you either. Now try doing an improvise ation So this is tabular as a completely blank Yeah where are you going to begin it I've been making a lot of music from recordings of birds so I've got here on legit out just a few recordings I've talked up and down into instruments century so I'm going to start with just those but I don't know what the music is going to be but so I'll start with that and then I just yeah I don't see where it leads but I've got some of the 1st just. This is again Bernie crosses Raven. And then there's a tiny aspect of Willow warbler which I. Chucked out there. And this is pied. And this is another pied but bird. Who. And then on the bass is a shorted. I think I start with those in the right and I absolutely.
