Toni Braxton and and bright my heart 11 minutes past 8 o'clock very good morning to you lovely to have a company on this Saturday morning what you got a great weekend planned or maybe hopefully just a calm one that would be nice wouldn't it if we didn't have too many year things to them of course throughout the morning we've been given you lots of ideas of things that are going on and that we've got an event to tell you about which is particularly poignant is its people have died as a result of drugs and a whole alcohol being remembered at a special memorial event in Bristol today that comes after New figures reveal the highest annual increase in registered drug related deaths since records began Well today's events in James's Priory will feature a performance by Bristol's recovery choir which concludes members affected by alcohol and other drugs it's been going for a little wine at this particular memorial and his is a very poignant why of of remembering those who died and on the line is Richard a brief parent who's helped support the Celebration of Life Memorial at thank you so much indeed for joining us Richard good morning can where it's so important to remember people and I know feel it for yourself you lost your daughter would you mind telling us a little bit about her mom happened surely my daughter suffered from anxiety originally. Was a long term I'll call it. She actually died. Over there was a quick gabble which was described to the doctor pain. And shoes 25 years old such a tender young age isn't it when when when did you 1st realize that things were beginning to spiral a bit. From the age of 15 or more to think. The same the anxiety was a big problem for her. So she started to abuse alcohol movies and television she was now calling probably by the time she was 18 as a parent it's so hard to say since oh you must you must have been beside yourself knowing how to help what to do. Yeah we were. We were desperate really and had been for many as you know. Sadly she died last year was it that right last April last April here yeah how much does something like this a memorial to the people who have died help families like yourself how is she to judge. When we've been attending the celebration of life for READY. Us and we tended twice with or without it before she died. Because she she tended to know people that died from drug or alcohol abuse. And so we felt it right that we are who obviously we want to keep going afterwards so I think this is the 7th year and it's just shoot. It is actually a celebration we've got a gasworks choir there we've got the recovery choir. And it's just a lovely event. In a beautiful building Oh yes and James Parys lovely We also attended. Support organized. As well the charity organizes event to support people whose family or loved ones died. Of cold I think it's very often people kind of think of the implications when you hear these headline figures the inner drug drug to be something alcohol abuse is on the rise and you forget over families behind over the support people behind those people who are suffering also need help as well because to be able to talk to others who are in same scenario must absolutely be a bit of a lifeline sometimes oh it is. Show Obery is you know. It's awful. Some always feels to you and to other people avoidable. Particularly too much because I think. The sport is really good and this this celebration is. Ok Well thank you so much indeed for sharing your story with us who really do appreciate it and I I had the event is as beautiful as it's been every year the thank you so much invade Iraq since. Excellent staff yeah I think the door is open it's recession it's from them for till 5 and as as you say says in James probably would stand straight impressive which is b.s. 13 and sad all are very welcome to attend 816 is the time we catch up with the weather is our town dance there hello morning tea is my morning now in the morning that is it was a chilly all start well although really weird that I had to go I last night fairly early and complain in sort of taking the car there was frost on it went to get back in the car a little bit later on there's more frost on it different fronts and this morning I was expecting as I put the cardboard on the windscreen everything no frost but that was quite early and then as I was driving in I could see the frost was really kind of building up on people's cars it was strange well before it came again. Yeah there is some cloud around and temperatures really very nicely we're kind of on the edge of the cold the really cold air and the slightly less cold as of summer says in a real swing of temperatures between around one and Celsius but for us currently around to Sri colder in some parts but it is cold this morning mist and folk patches around as well particularly further to the east if you travel does take you eastwards the small and then be away for the next few hours it's likely you will continue to see some dense fog matches the breeze helping to disperse it though for many of us this morning and we will see some spells of sunshine to resume the final drive I with my. And shine some areas of cloud around but feeling cold to get much above 6 or 7 degrees for most of us and cold again tonight still a breeze those and mist and fog should be too much of an issue to start the day tomorrow but another chilly day only 5 or 6 for most through tomorrow some spells of sunshine mainly tried a some cloud around as well and it will be a particularly cold night from Sunday into Monday temperatures quite widely getting to 0 or below so some frost to start their Monday perhaps some mist unfold or freezing fog patches but high pressure has become more dominant on Monday so expect like winds and fine dry weather and like the spells of sunshine and it stays at cool and crisp but mainly dry for the 1st part of next week Ali lovely stuff thank you very much indeed and not so people about shopping thinking about kind of getting on with the Christmas shopping some people have already done I know how about you Dan how what is a what are what is the weather man. You are missing the c shopper or I know it's not that late but I should really start thinking about it but it's not December yet but it's morals and it is yeah if. There were a comic Don't panic I won't I won't tell you I'll tell you why thank you very much indeed and I'll tell you why we got loads of Christmas for As and things like that to mention they'll be coming up throughout the program we've been mentioning some There's more to come so if you're looking for some inspiration we've got some good Christmas fairs that you could. Radio breast down never collaborated like this before have you well you're only Trichy most Ok you know the James Harrison show today on my show are gone Martin and Shirley cam chatting about their new album and about the fact their boy Roman is the one in the jungle bro really annoyed we got our best mates we are back into the same is most case most do so wrong as for ever trying to get me I'm sure so I just sort of annoyed they said Toto me both of you want to put me in the shower for the White Rose to James Harrison show him I shall We Martin and Shirley camp and. More so from now on b.b.c. Radio Bristol. Now a few minutes I'm going to be finding out why a tree could be used to plough on tough up here on Radio Bristol says been in touch to cite as a Christmas fad today at the bay hive center next to some Ambrose's church on Stratford road in Whitehall the postcode that's b.s. 57 she said there's loads of stores Ruffels games plants etc Fun for all dandelions if you're listening you could be going to that one getting some Christmas ideas Lucy has got to tell us about raising funds all in aid of mine for better mental health and it's a crofting thing it's called Crofton oon and pop up tea shop love that make Christmas tree decorations gifts collets wrapping paper tags all very eco all very sustainable you may make swags fried dough is a real community event taking place at the Scout tool in ringtone today from 2 until 5 sounds a lot of fun and eke out a cup it's a always important. To. Watch the. Bowl to New York was. A. Whole New York I mean you know the mountain you know the you. Listen to. What you. Feel. People. Say the way to. Go shake in the. Let. Loose. And that's Calvin Harris and rag and bone man right the time is 24 minutes past 8 o'clock now I bet one or 2 of you be getting a Christmas tree this weekend I would be seen some up in the windows of people's houses but if you fancy a silver birch or a home beam feel garden or allotment then you need to head down to the center of Bristol today that's because trees left over from a new planting project in the city will be redistributed to local residents today for free well Nassim Taleb from plastic pollution action and awareness is then one of the people behind the tree planting initiative and joins me in the studio now along with volunteer Lucy Mason Good morning to both of you to come in thank you very much indeed and now tell us a little bit about why you feel so passionate about this that you've got this whole idea going. So true planting is a natural climate solution to us yeah and I think what's been happening with the climate emergencies and the crisis happening we also acknowledge the number of plastic usages increased especially in the food sector so the where we can address that the way we can replace there are by the Runnable items and we want to know for example toilet paper is costing us 30000 tree per day to support that so anything that we read anything the replaces the plastic usage is most likely going to come from the plant and we just don't have enough plant to tackle that do we have enough land I mean I know every There's lots and lots of schemes going on at the moment there's big rewilding movement isn't at the moment but is that realistic because a meal class small island I'm not saying that we shouldn't do it but how can we fit enough people in how this is treated as if we're going to. I honestly don't have an answer to that by I think whatever we have we need to utilize that and we need to utilize that now to day present day and that and that's the mission Ok you got involved you wanted to help him you know what he what have you been doing to it was this project intact tell us a little bit about the main project is where were the trees ago yes so we've been working with Southwest hospital and part where we've been putting in trees on Wednesday and Thursday site how many we've planted so fantasy I think about 96 and 960 s we've got quite a few in so far and the aim is very just to I got involved over some hours helping doing admin and arcing e-mails do whatever I could to help out with this project really just to get off the ground to make it happen which is only possible through the help of so many great people have come forward to help so the image just gets ninety's in the eyes possible and to get as many people involved as possible to spread the message to make sure people are aware of what's going on and the need for it here because people are really willing only to volunteer and help I mean if you can get the the product together the trees you know you do find if you put that play out I'm sure people do want to help Yes I mean we have received already 255. Confirmations of collecting this morning so people are generally are really concerned and they want to do their bit and tree planting is one of those activities that no one should have a problem with no religion should have probably no conscience should have problem with and that's how we are hoping to bring that engagement bring that connection so what else in their lives they can make changes to actually help the planet so tree planting is a start but it's not enough we need to change the artist you would need to take we need to change the way we do our shopping we need to change the way we go out and mills and social activities so our point of view of planting trees empowering those people to their ability to lead that change and through that only we can bring that balance back to our. And. I can tell the passion in a voice really can and you know I think many people are feel really passionate about people who put themselves into action like you have now listen to tell us about today then so people can get trees can they from College Green Yes we've got some trees left over so wouldn't last of tonight the trees to us and after the party events we've got some left over so we're distributing them to anyone who has a garden or allotment or any other piece of land where they have space to put in a little tree we're giving them out when sending out instructions of how to plant them they're very small very easy. To just pop one in the grand all you need is the tree and a spade and say yeah do you give any advice about this I managed to give us a birthday present of them I thought I was being very good you know I bought her a little tree. Is a little true and I both said I look also like when I forgot to look at the complete instructions it's going to be a 20 footer if she's not careful and she only. I mean that's the trouble in that you don't know what you're planting it always is and that is sort of a long time in the future that you have to see Kobe to face when you plant them and they do take a while to grow but obviously that is a concern and I wouldn't lie about it when you 1st put the man I mean you have to take care of it for quite a long time for they're going to get big Anyway so yes obviously do you think about space are valuable might that part is suitable you know do people have to pay for them. Know the so they are heartless plant by woodland trash is always free as long as they register online beforehand to come and collect their show and I think we just change our position now we are actually stationing down by the Neptune stock to you spot you opposite Hippodrome in sort of College Green Ok with the city council gave us a much more attractive spot yeah right in the middle of cities and just basically raising awareness as well well it's a brilliant thing that you're doing how many trees in your dreams do you think you would like to plant in this area we started off with $1000.00 not we are going to for 200 if we distribute all the plants today we should have Were he to run 1400 which is real. Really amazing only started a few months ago imagine if we can do that what can we do next year and the year after Listen if people can't get to the net it's that you want to find out more what's the best way to get hold of you I think the website is probably the best one . A a p dot org dot u. K. Or so just on Facebook we're all over the place hopefully excellent that this is really nice to meet you both thank you very much you're going to get some. It's going to be a bit chilly out there it's lovely stuff thank you very much indeed for coming in and sharing your passion 830 is the time. From Weston super Mare to bar so I'm going to lemon. B.b.c. Radio Bristol.
