The stuff 1st breakfast Absolutely yeah I really enjoy this is good for. The little he said I'm a traitor he may react the country for a lie detector placed on no producer and they and Jess on trouble we're going to get into the top story in a minute it's a really important top story as well many children in the county with special educational needs driven to and from school in private tax or mini buses but it's costing the county council $90000000.00 a year so there's ideas to try and save or save money on that. And what we'll look into that story in a minute but one of the other more amusing stories of the day I guess Caroline Flack has been named the most dangerous celebrity to search for on line in the u.k. According to the latest report by antivirus company can many Internet searches for the love on and host the generating results pointing to risky websites we've gone around the room and asked What's the last thing we search for a really enjoyed Mark's Yes baby elephant videos which were from my nieces but I kind of enjoy as well that was my last Google search and these to index wanky don't care yes most recently searched for a reason the sensible coffee shops in Papua coffee shops in Papworth. Radio Cambridge Yeah this is the cab Lauren spray fish. So many children in our county with special educational needs are driven to and from school in private taxis or mini buses How much does it cost the county council each year do you reckon the answer is 9000000 pounds and now in a bid to save money the county council is considering training some of the children to actually travel independently by pass by train or maybe even walk instead and they hope to get 25 children trained up by next September Here's our political reporter Hannah Olsen is the lure that councils are responsible for getting people to and from school if they meet certain criteria This includes many students with special educational needs because it's been decided that a school outside of their catchment area is able to better meet their needs or they're unable to walk to school because of physical or other disabilities but providing that help is expensive often involving taxis or escorts last year came with Cham Peterborough Council spend more than 9000000 pounds on home to school transport for s.c.m. Peoples and there's a potential for that to get to rise by another 1000000 pounds a year and our Council say they simply can't afford that they're already struggling to balance their special needs budgets increasing pressure on services and what they claim is a lack of how from the government so that leaves them with the option of trying to reduce the amount of money they spend on s.c.n. And this idea of more. Travel would certainly help but it's a difficult balancing act because as well as trying to save money they have a duty of care to children and their families now reporter John Vine has been spending the morning with a family in Peterborough whose daughter has very profound needs care from back in the sky in paper and in the kitchen a vast and a moment she's preparing things because I don't I mean that is 11 she's got conditions as if she was conditions that she got after quite a few but at the minute she has a c.t.c. Of general Taisha is quite heavy Agilent disorder she also has a severe learning disability and autism and she's also has brittle bones and just quite a complex child in the living room at the moment she's out and about yes she's being grumpy now and it's fine for the regime to prepare things for yes yes yes for the medicine and she's quite difficult with eating but we're trying. And we're going through in spirit like no to yes of course so this is a routine you face every day yes was involved in getting out the door of a you know a struggle everyday Well yes we already have a few adaptations made to make it a little bit easier because the step from. Our house to I was I was quite sort of a big step to make it was a bit too much for her. So we have a few adaptations made and things like that so. Now she has a bar handle and a step is well so that makes it much easier to get out of the house well it says to mind and unclear which we'll get there one day you know your course guitar is free so in your opinion master could children with special educational needs make their own way to school is that possible but it depends on the children you're talking about you know some children call it and I hope that my daughter went one day will be one of those children however. It needs to be handled quite carefully and quite frankly I think every single parent would run their child to be as an abundance possible. And be able to make their way into society you know if if my daughter one day wants to go to to the shops to buy some milk and she wants to do it independently of be more than happy for her to do that but she needs to be handled carefully and there is no blanket policy as well but people have to understand that was one child maybe even with a similar condition can make their way you know to and from school but another child might not be so as long as the local authority understand that there is no blanket policy and they will treat each child individually I have no problem with outmuscle other independent travel training would save the council not at all she's a good auntie think I think it is a good idea but again once again as long as and they treat each child individually there is no blanket policy and quite frankly I want my child to be independent I one had to have the training a 100 to be able to go and do things for herself without constantly asking can I do this can I do that if it's a brilliant idea I think I'm going to look quite contented on the face of their playing with a tablet and I've been away you know breakfast and maybe ignoring us a little bit. Yes she's going to be the whole with enough of breakfast and getting her help brush her teeth and get changed and then the shoes on and then put a coat on what we're trying to do sort of as independent as possible so she would do what she can and or help her where she can't and then go in a car and get along with our day really interesting thank you very much John Vine now we have been in touch with the County Council miss they want to reassure people if agree that their approach will be carefully considered and proper support training safeguarding and guidance will be in place Cambridge year and Peterborough councils are working closely together to find solutions that improve independence as well as delivering long term financial stability on the line now is Lucy Neath single who is the leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the County Council and an air. Any pay for the South of England Good morning thank I mean Good morning I'm not a leader at the moment because I would have a pm not the leader but I am not alone the can you have to look out from anywhere problems for that you have you have a background in special needs education can you confirm yes yes do you agree this could be a benefit to some of the peoples I absolutely agree that the investment in travel to travel independent travel training is excellent I think it's really important make sure that we are doing as much as we can to help children with special educational needs to become as independent as possible my concern is that alongside that there is an expected saving to the council and that saving is either unsafe because we're not sure what the outcome of training will be too it's going to mean that the crash occurs on families to send their children to school independent RINGBACK age when maybe they're not quite ready ready to leave so that's my huge concern that poverty should not be questioned the question to send their children to school independently when they're not confident that that's going to be safe the council says he wants to help youngsters increase their confidence. When you're encouraging Are you saying that sound realistic then. I think my concern is around the savings I think that the investment in the pension travel is probably a good thing of course we want to be helping families to teach their children how to get all independently but if there is a high pressure savings targets attached that could be a risk yes a conflict how do you think own experience of what the training actually is. Well I think it will I'm I hope it will be different for individual children because that travel abilities and the travel that they're trying to make will be different I think some of it is about. Having people accompanying young people on the bus helping them walk to school so that they can walk on their own and then see whether they'll be confident when they're not accompanied But it's it's always very difficult and sometimes on a lovely sunny day it might seem fine to school and then suddenly in the winter it doesn't seem quite safe and I think that we just need to make sure that within this scheme their own high pressure savings targets to make sure that families are being pressured into doing things that they feel comfortable with but the council says it needs to reduce spending so all there any alternative when I think the very clear alternative is that the government should be funding special needs child to properly and I think that the County Council would agree with that government funding simply hasn't kept up with the increase in the number of special needs children and recent years and the costs are going up and it's putting huge pressure on the count and government needs to recognise that and put money into special needs education. Thank you Lacey for chatting to us this morning we're getting reaction to this as well on text I want triple 3 Kaminey message if you have any comments that you like to give us text annoying 92 says yet again it's the people who really need services that are getting hit the worst and on Twitter friendly voice Peterborough have tweeted please note the overspend in sand but it is in cams not Peterborough separate projects send transport being joined up view safety 1st an ability for independent travel works when public transport and other areas also works as a site feel free to add your comments to this on Twitter Keva breakfast or on text you want triple 3 and story message with the word cam across Cambridge.
