With me Donna between now and 9 o'clock will be very much getting into the festive spirit with the children and teachers at Archbishop Benson primary school intruder a say really looking forward to that also take a look at some of this morning Sunday newspapers as well thank you by the way for all the cools and the e-mails coming in about today's celebrity him so we have another little burst of it right now this is the him Carol but he said. When you. Use a full song is it. Is quite difficult there today but he might have a good it's a laser range 101 and 39 and the text this morning is 81 trouble 3 starting out text with the word coma Alan chase water it isn't Donna Summer but she says Good morning Donna and morning to Pat in Skinner's bottom she says how great to see a shooting star Yeah many of you saying that including our producer Rebecca saying that there was shooting stars in the sky this morning say we'll be asking pool weather forecast what he thinks about that was it a meteor shower or not I'm wondering but alley also says we have the cherry wind orchestra in the village hall in Chase Well tonight it's half past 6 for a carol concert everybody welcome plus mince pies as well so absolutely brilliant that is half past 6 tonight for a carol concert in the village hall in chase water by the tree wind orchestra to let me know if you're looking forward to something special today all what is inspiring you now do you have plans for this Christmas all are you maybe going to be spending it alone on New research by. A g k has found that Christmas is the loneliest time of year for more than one and a half 1000000 people well with more than 3 quarters of a 1000000 widows people feeling isolated and over the festive season but there is some good news because many communities and charities across schoolmarm off running open mantles and they hope many people who would otherwise be alone come along and join them at free lunches and events right across the Christmas period I'll call nightly is the director of the charity faith in later life face and later life were set up 2 years ago and it was set up by 5 Christian charities including the program's friends authority the Salvation Army and on the City Mission all with a sense that there needed to be a little bit more of a focus on older people and understanding that many churches do a lot of good things with younger folks and families but often there is lack of resources and focus on older people so fascinated life was set up as a fake or to do a lot of work through churches in that space and what sort of things d.d. Than what we want to equip and encourage churches to reach out to people everywhere for Christ and so we want churches to think about how they're reaching out into the community and to that end we have a national directory of activity you know websites have a church is doing something like a lunch travel so on and so forth they tell us about it we can continue to grow that directory so your elderly aunt in Doncaster for example would be able to look on our website and find out what churches around her are doing to reach older people and then also we want to resource churches to think about how they can effectively serve and empower their older congregation and we have a resource on our website $550.00 plus resources around different areas of later life so we can equip churches in thinking about their older congregation we we think of it at a church where older people are leading Prime Ministry talking to young people about what it means to serve the Lord faithfully for many years so really fascinates live for us to shine a light on older people and seek to reach. People and what a community is for ought I think it's such a good idea I really do because sometimes general conversation on the art of seems to be directed towards the younger generation these days and I can imagine that the older generation can field a little for a little bit left out particularly at this time of year because you know it's a very lonely very isolating time of year if assume many people particularly if you're elderly I think it is certainly more pronounced Christmas and by their way or otherwise we're just if you're on your own and we know the church is still 1000 churches across the air I replaced our encouraging churches to think about how they can reach out to older people of any faith or none and invite them into the church community and invite them into Friendship Fellowship and of us who share the love that we find in Jesus so we really want without any agenda or really reach out sort of paper and just offer some friendship of fellowship because actually that's just what it is it is isn't it I mean it's just a conversation just the opportunity to sit down with somebody and have a conversation that can be a lot Sharifa so many people who who don't get to speak to anybody day in day out and also I think you know we hear on this program that so many of our local communities throw open the doors particularly this time and a range Christmas lunch it is and so all sorts of things like that and that says so much for the community exactly right or are encouraging churches and of course we're saying that many churches already doing this stuff and that's wonderful Also they were encouraging churches who aren't to think about doing this sort of thing and of course not just leave it at Christmas he mentioned many older people don't have regular conversation we know that over 5000000 people say the television or their pet is a crisis form of contact so I actually think about how we can remain in society together but of course because of course as a church we feel we have a duty towards our. People but we also know we're missing out if we're not engaging with other people or churches naturally intergenerational by design family if you like and so we really want to ensure all the people are part of that if there's anybody listening this morning who would like to find out more about what you do and how they can get involved and work out where the the groups in the resources are that they can tap into what's the best means of finding out so the 1st best place to go to is our Web site and that's faith and later life dot org faith in its life is all one word and they can type in their postcode into our activities direct train see what's on there then but equally they can submit an activity for inclusion on to our. Database resources Good to see what else is going on and they can look at what else is happening and maybe adopt some of those ideas through our website they can also send us messages or give us a call if it's that helpful and I'm so called that you know nobody will excluded be excluded even if they're not of Christian faith. Activities directory is not for morning press for example it's for lunch clubs clubs we want to reach out into the community and the story of course we're Christians and so that does sits behind why we do things but we don't want to discourage older Christians in the wider community we want to reach older people and encourage them into friendship and fellowship and of course that goes right to the heart of the Christian gospel so I thank you so much Col for joining us and I hope you have a very very happy Christmas yourself thank you very much and the our nightly from the charity faith in later life I'd love to hear from you this morning a you hosting something of a Christmas are you volunteering as a project that will help or alleviate loneliness so just generally provide some fellowship and sin chair for somebody who might otherwise be alone at Christmas maybe a little lunch or breakfast to let me know this morning have a 101 a 39 in fact between now and 9 o'clock we'll be hearing about well what you doing introvert in and also Camelford as well say very much looking forward to that perhaps you've benefits is all really enjoyed going along to one of these events on Christmas Day and it's changed your life you've met some new people maybe or maybe you just wanted to go and I don't know i be with other people use and have to say anything can just sit there but just enjoy the company really it's what it's all about isn't it and indeed I was saying earlier pull our lovely weather forecaster pull got us in with us a little hello I was saying earlier that So yesterday morning I went up to the chaos cafe in charity where some Syrian refugees were hosting a wonderful community events and they were cooking beautiful Syrian food and the children were running around there was a visit from Comal Farm Rescue Service and the 5 fighters were amazing with all the children as you can imagine and it was just the best of community spirits people being together a sense of let's just glaze actually yeah we bring you a flavor. That next weekend all right with us yeah sadly I didn't bring any sound was just great is that story about that let them. Pull Have you had celebrity Carol today I have All right well if there's anybody hasn't won just have another quick little burst of it. When you. Look at it today it's very very very difficult and in fact I want to just say good morning once again to Mavis in film with you particularly enjoys the celebrity him say thank you and good morning like this right now only the only person guessing correctly so far is the person who's got the brownie point this morning poor in new Keech with terrorists where because good morning and thank you to Margaret in bottom in Valerie in Cambone David in spirit Margaret in Malabar Malcolm in health system but it isn't Cilla Black Donna Matty prior Clark. Very very difficult this morning have I doubt myself with. 111 coming as a. Way to weigh 101 I 39 don't adopt they're all at b.b.c. Top cage all you k. Now who was last week it was Michael Crawford got like a. Lame impression of. Spencer That's right so improved over the week but yeah Troy know what shall we move on the live a big. It's been an amazing morning weather wise we've had shooting stars haven't really we certainly have did a little bit of digging around and there was a meteor shower last night with Gemini. Made me see a show it does happen annually 120 last year during expecting 88 this year but there have been quite a few around overnight is that. Because of the means being quite bright some of the more distant ones did not really been able to see the moon's light does actually disguise them but yes you're quite likely to see them Isn't that fabulous to get to peak last night to guess Ok Could we see them again tonight potentially but not as frequently again all right well marvelous because of course we have from Pam in Skinner's bottom and Rebecca are pretty this morning saying it was wonderful Yes I didn't see any I didn't know either because it was thundering and lightning and it was hail all sorts of things I drove into work this morning yeah I had a thunder and lightning. Nearly I'd say even Mia on the northeast of I think anyway what's it looking like for the next 5 days well obviously we have seen some quite heavy rain over the last 24 hours and in conjunction with that we do have a couple of flood alerts out for Cornwall the upper of a tamer due to the rainfall and also the 7 Cornish coast from Lizard Point to grab in head that's excluding Truro city and that's really down to the strong winds that we're seeing in coastal areas today again still being influenced by a low pressure that's going to give us another unsettled day with frequent scattered showers some of which could turn heavy maybe thundery again at times and there is a further risk of hail between the showers though we could see some sunny intervals fresh to strong south westerly winds are going to continue to go between 50 and 60 miles an hour in exposed areas throughout the day as well Max one term just lay between $6.00 and $9.00 Celsius $43.00 to $48.00 Fahrenheit tonight any lingering showers will tend to fade away as the night progresses allowing some clearer spose to divert it to develop and the winds also tending to ease through the nights becoming moderate southwesterly by dawn minimum term which is tonight between $3.00 and $6.00 Celsius $37.00 to $43.00 Fahrenheit. And tomorrow any remaining showers will quickly clear to leave a rather cloudy day tomorrow but it should be generally dry just a very low risk of an isolated shower 1st thing winds are going to be mainly light or moderate south southwesterly with maximum term just between 7 and 10 Celsius 45 to 50 Fahrenheit so on Choose day and yearly cloud maybe just a little bit of pressure rain will clear away quickly on Tuesday morning to leave a largely fine and dry day with some reason the good periods of sunshine developing by midday just a very low chance of maybe picking up an isolated shower at times winds going to be light to moderates north westerly strengthening from the southwest though overnight maximum temperatures around 9 Celsius on choose during those $48.00 Fahrenheit with overnight minimums of 3 Celsius $37.00 Fahrenheit it's going to be a bright start to the day on Wednesday but we will then see a band of cloud and rain spreading in from the West during the latter part of the morning and through the afternoon and this rain will then turn heavy and prolonged for most of us by the early evening winds are going to be fresh or strong southeasterly gusting again to 50 to 60 miles an hour towards the evening in exposed areas maximum term just 10 Celsius 50 Fahrenheit and an overnight minimum of 7 Celsius 45 Fahrenheit and Thursday is going to be a day of sunshine and showers and some of those showers could turn heavy at times the winds steadily ease through the morning to become moderate southerly by mid day and a maximum temperature on Thursday of 11 Celsius 52 very night and the Ensure waters forecast no vote until 6 o'clock tomorrow morning the wind Southwest 7 or Gale 8 a cake occasionally severe gale 9 1st decreasing 4 to 6 later the weather school the showers rain 1st and the visibility good occasionally moderate 1st that's great Paul thank you very much and sees travel wise no incidents to report however there is a lot of standing water on roads across the country country Yeah absolutely but mainly across the county and no problems reported at the airports. And I'm not sure there are many flights flying today to be very honest with you but yeah I have to just make a point out that on the trains a new timetable is coming into place on g.w. Are today say or do you check the times of your trains today also there's a replacement bus service running on south western railway between Exodus and David's and Honiton and that's because of strike action tickets are being accepted on g.w. Last services Phoebe see. Florence re the lunchtime phone is all about doing good for. Improving community we were just desperate. Nobody was listening to people like yourself enough is enough so I think it was collective but I think it's clear we want to give you a platform to have your say. While the Telegraph reports that Boris Johnson is planning a dramatic overhaul of Whitehall in a drive to demonstrate that his government works for the people it says his chief aide Dominic Cummings will spearhead a program of radical reform of the civil service including a review of the processes for hiring and firing officials to ensure the prime minister's agenda is delivered the paper adds that Downing Street has dismissed suggestions from Brussels and conservatives who campaigned for remain that having secured a majority that ends his reliance on hard line breaks it is Mr Johnson will now angle for a closer trading relationship with the e.u. a Senior at number 10 source is quoted as saying we are not going to soften Bracks is well according to The Sunday Times this morning up to a 3rd of the cabinet face the sack in a February reshuffle after the u.k. Has left the e.u. So that fresh faces can be brought in to create a transformative government focused on the needs of working class voters inside as a quoted as saying new ministers will be selected according to their. Billeted to drive change rather than because they're good media performances Ok That's interesting the observer and the Sunday Mirror this morning a both leading with Jeremy Corbin's acceptance that he must take some of the responsibilities for Labour's defeat under the headline I'm jazz so sorry the mirror says Mr Corbin has been humbled one in The Observer The Labor leader argues that the party paid the price for a Bracks it policy that was seen by some as an attempt to straddle the divide between remain as an leavers and by others as wanting to rerun the referendum but Mr Cool been he's indicated he won't step down before the spring also defends his record blaming a political system that he says has become volatile since the financial crash as well as the media and what he describes as Boris Johnson's dishonesty and we can say it's still all over the papers isn't it.
