The Regent track Chamber Choir and pray she the last short and sweet beginning is under way for Sunday Morning Good Morning see hope you're well it's what you carry with you through until 9 o'clock today at Looks like I'm just checking the cameras around the county that we've got available to us it looks like it has been a dusting of snow in some parts of particularly higher ground slick and down the I 5 or 86 the car pictured in the paper in the to the scene I can see at the moment and yet it's under snow Caxton pass looks like white out conditions at the moment and guardrail head on the a 684 looks like in the last 1015 minutes or so it's knowing profusely if it's looking bad where you are you can always tell us 813 double 3 by text to start the message of the work Cumbria because of course if you tell us we can tell the county right what to go for this morning we're busy all show today we'll be catching up with someone who disappearing from the county and moving on to past us near and that's the leader of the United Reformed Church in Cumbria the Reverend Sarah Moore she has a new position in Scotland We'll tell you about that a bit later also hearing about the 1600000 pounds that's coming to the county for the gold for all the Sion had to make. Sure that people know of God and the purpose he has for their lives that an amazing amount of money but what you'll be spent on will talk to Mr Penn and find out about that a bit later we'll hear about the church in Carlisle that is converted its building into Bethlehem if you're anywhere near Carmel but just check this last week he popped you know around the door thinking people just pop in for a cup of tea and sing a few songs for you want to be able to this week because well they converted the whole place into Bethlehem we'll tell you why I will tell you how a little bit later on let's go to talk about Christmas cards the lack of religious Christmas cards particularly this year and also we'll hear more from the pastor of St Mark's Church in Barrow the community worker there who was with us on the program last week telling us all about some of the things they do there there was so much to talk about we just felt we needed to bring you more so we will on the program before 8. Feel like I'm quite a head of us else because it's only the 3rd city of Advent but hey that's life spell but I was pretty. Sure that we play that piece now because over the past few weeks we've been myth busting the story the Nativity with our Christmas experts weigh in clock and this week. Late and b.b.c. Reporter Rebecca Kelly look at the shepherds and what may really have happened when they met Jesus this is the real Nativity last time we saw how Jesus was born in Bethlehem this time. Yes that's right back there we're talking about Moses certain Porsche upwards as the Carol says Who were the 1st to hear about the birth of. You know the tippity plays we all sort some stories around the shepherds like we do with the other characters but again the Bible account is really quite brief about the shepherds So who are those shepherds and where were they well the Bible simply says they were shepherds living out in the fields nearby keeping watch over their flocks at night but it's quite a detail in that if you go to Bethlehem today you'll be shown the shepherds fields on the eastern side of the town but really we don't know where they were or how far away from the town they were actually with their sheep they may have Being been nearer to Jerusalem looking after the sheep for the temple sacrifices that's one theory what we do know is that these were people who lived in tents not in towns they were nomads today we would call them Bedouin people and just as Jesus later in life went to the people on the fringes of society so the ones who 1st heard of his birth were nomadic people you might call them outsiders from the mainstream and then an angel visits them through a lot of angels in the Christmas story out you know it's interesting isn't it there are those angels who visit Zechariah and then Mary and Joseph and now the shepherds . There's a difference here though Mary's angel could be mistaken just for an ordinary man but. This is quite different the picture is of heaven breaking open in front of them 1st one angel then a whole crowd of angels the angel's words are very specific great joy there's a baby he's the promised savior he's in Bethlehem in a manger he'll always give directions on how to find this baby and then the crowd of Angels are calling out the praises of God and peace on earth 2 2 2 6 6 6. Of course an angel is a messenger from God That's what we would angel means and this is the ultimate Christmas message of joy and of peace is what Christmas is about now but so on it's have a tea place and sometimes we have the shepherds coming to the stable with that children and a little do you think it was really like that. Often a beautiful scene in the Timothy play and it's also in the Carol isn't it if I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb but to be honest accounts it really happening. As we said last time it's more likely that Jesus wasn't born in a stable but in the rough end of a house where a few domestic animals lived with the family there's no ox or ass mentioned in the Bible for the shepherds to bring a lamb away from its mother seems unlikely but I do like the idea actually of children coming to the manger because these nomadic shepherds would have travelled as families it would have been a family business so that's quite possible the important. Thing I think of shepherds going to the manger is that they went away again it's changed people it's like the nativity play needs a part to what happened next Luke says that the shepherds told the whole town what they experience then they went back to work praising God for all they see so one more part of the story to come yet next time it's the most well most mysterious and exotic part the one that's most misunderstood as we meet the wise man. Can Rebecca Kelly in conversation with the real nativity on b.b.c. Ready to come but as I mentioned last part of the story we'll have that next week. Was today on Songs of Praise Kate Buckley meets a couple in London his prayers were answered when their 1st child was born early this year after having been told they couldn't have children and she joins them as robe worn by the debt scamper wall prepared for their baby's 1st Christmas. We 1st met at church women's breakfast I was the only guy in the room there about $4500.00 women there and I'm that found in death and I thought well the lovely lady. After a couple of years of dating Rob and Bernie dad got married in 2015 and quite soon afterwards decided to start a family we got pregnant fairly easily but over the course of a year we had a couple of miscarriages didn't we hear around 7 to 9 week stage the 1st carriages were very near to Christmas. There was it we just didn't feel like celebrating. Very unfortunately we tried for a 3rd time didn't we we had another miscarriage and that's when we started thinking Ok this is not looking like it's going to be an easy. Path. And then we were fed to by my g.p. To visit a specialist and and they said that because I have children Yeah and it was very matter of fact it's you know kind of like the jury is made. Verdict you can't have children and I remember us leaving with specialists really leaving the hospital walking up the road and we were just like right what next. We have family here praying for us we had the church here amazing his support to us and then there's the numbness about it or I felt the number yes. We thought right. If you got for us God because we're out of options. Then when all hope seemed lost last night and then it's not realised she was pregnant again. It was an anxious 12 weeks really. But. Good news 12 weeks. So on the 4th of August 15th Gracie home was born. She weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces. I remember picking up for the 1st time thing I work in this where we're holding the promise we've been waiting for. Even now still very surreal and I can't believe we have. I don't have a mother and she's a wonderful baby she's so cheeky and she's got my sense if you are. Going to be very different to previous Christmases I think having grace with us in the flesh in a way to the way to it is kind of that I've been season is that you wait and wait for the promise as just think it brings in surprise spect if and then you weigh the reality of the infant Christ coming to us. I would say grace is deaf name Michael baby every time I look I just I'm reminded of God's promise coming to us. What a lovely story to see Mo if you see one song surprised today at a quarter past 1. When. I say. I know you. We'll be theirs where as us. Will be ready to have within a day so may ease Shiloh's to lead into I don't know as you say shining a light at Christmas on b.b.c. Radio Cumbria. That's a group called Avalon and they him the solid rock on the sea where you come break $10.00 to $7.00 and that means it's time for our thought for the week and today comes from Keller Michael Molly Cullum missioner at the county's cathedral Well they tell us the Nation has spoken and now the challenge is to deliver to prove to people that investment in fantastic treasures like then it chests in our policing were not just keep pace with the demands but exceed them to repair the cuts of the past added to these challenges there will be the uncertainty of withdrawing from our longstanding relationship with Europe which many see paved with gold and ot
