That is madness and I hear a B.B.C. Radio Devon Welcome to Monday morning highlight from Matt Woodley 3 until 545 when we bring you farming today musically speaking of lies coming up some classic seal from the ninety's called anyone from Jack some adult take that and say The list goes on if you are just waking up maybe your alarm has just got off a Monday morning and you haven't quite peeped outside let me tell you that today I could see more in the way of cloud today together with. A bit drizzly you might want to grab a broadly as you're heading on out a little lighter and compared to over the weekend. And it could be slightly cooler today however the dry weather returns tomorrow says here more lying to the B.B.C. Don't slash whether. Classic and it continues what a way to start Monday morning comes everything from P.B.C. Do I need to announce that baby doll of Franklin of wealth and respect on B.B.C. Radio definite Monday morning. Round to follow me today just after 545 plays some seal in a few moments time also a moment that happened on Fitz his show on Friday morning which I don't think he's going to appreciate me playing you this morning. Explain more very shortly but he's always going on about not being scammed I think he was scammed on Friday morning by the rest of Def and more to come in the next 10 or 15 minutes but new week and a new show starting tonight 7 o'clock here at B.B.C. Radio Devon the reef starts a new show that. Yes I'm very excited I bet you've been putting a lot of work into this as well absolutely of course I know you and that's true with Michael Checa last week about. Your name came up you know still holding this against my now I was they thought I'm having a wrestling match yourself he was that was his goal to give you a new shot it's inspired by my guest coming in tonight right so I've got Rosie Grayson and Jason we had minimum of. That coming in from reach wrestling and they yes so don't give me that look don't worry that would not look right no going to be trying now wrestling live on air and OK we're going to be talking about it a lot and then me and my cool will. Trying about it the other day we said how would be a great idea to have like an internal B.B.C. Wrestling match against you know presenters against presenters and we thought that we had to try much everyone out fairly So we're putting you against Sarah goes laying because we're the same height I mean claims to know. Where he's seen her biceps Well I do I want to losing street street kid silly of this I mean we did both but you know for a problem I back off and let her win oh yeah yeah. So we so we got a part part of Sarah Gosling of course evening she has been going on a Thursday and Friday night she's been now extended back to to start on a Wednesday that will be here tomorrow night from 7 o'clock and your hair kick in the week off oh yeah he's a headline act Oh well I mean I don't want to I would like to co-anchor the headline act fine OK. So so so besides the wrestling the size the rest are legs I mean you have to oil up as well gosh. Happen what else is the plan for the new show well have you ever heard. Of or do you like cool water sports have you ever done a couple race Oh I thought heard about the kind of thing I'd probably end up drowning in I mean say so which is why I thought it would be great to find out about once we've got that tonight as well plus a life jacket Yeah exactly so I mean it's mud some of these people who did this couple boat race they would literally do they will make a boat within 3 hours and then stick it on the war to get in and try and within seconds. I think there's a lot of duct tape involved oh really yeah let it go for a little bit there and at least a little way yeah it is might not make it the whole route but that's kind of the A and you obviously need some very short some very light short people. Together in the yeah I think so I think that was the one time when I show it like. A difference between. Just just. Maybe a bit and then of course we've got to get out God we've got a halt juicing tracks of the week is wow all about between 7 and 10. The sound of Devon B.B.C. Radio Devon. Thank you crazy on B.B.C. Radio deaf and your early breakfast show for Monday morning going to play the new one from Jack supper ready in a moment's time got some classic Madonna and take that to play you as well inside the next 20 minutes also a little surprise scam from David Fitzgerald I'm not sure the reason he's working up to the fact that he was scammed by the whole of Devon on his show on Friday morning I heard it though I think I've worked it out that will do that between now and 545 and as I mentioned them from 6 o'clock James has 3 different guest presenters working with Goldens on his holidays and James Vicary last week guest presenter number one guest presenter number 2 here from 6 o'clock this morning Matt Rogers will be holding the fort along with Laura He's got 5 days with Laura they've already been warming up towards the end of last week and it seems like they like very similar things although I think they disagree on share more to come after 6 o'clock I think most people disagree with Laura and their 6 o'clock this morning the show here at B.B.C. Radio Devon Now then did you see over the weekend don't tell the bride a huge fan of the show it was on over the weekend it featured a Devon couple This is where the bride hands all control over to the groom and the money by the way which the T.V. Production company kind of front up for this comes from Charlotte challenge from done because well she handed over control of her whole wedding to husband to be that ways for the. T.V. Show don't tell the bright you so it yesterday anyway Laura and James caught up with the couple on the breakfast show on Friday Morning Have a listen but what's it like giving complete control to Wes on this is the biggest day of your life you're going to remember it forever more and to hand over control what does that feel like well it was really really scary because I was 9 for kind of trying to wind people up so I thought he's going to sing and by a margin of I'm going to get married like on the wall of time like with my last barracks I hate crooked over stuff so I you know I think we're going to be a pain. But I was like to read it I thought you were really happy with the way they obviously that drive up with. A story to say I was in this wedding dress between my practice heavily pregnant sister and my stepsister are in a tiny cause you know and then I thought I was going for you know book. Yeah but then I got that it was amazing I could just drive pasta stadium I know it's the same life but I'll say it would get my back but then I saw this little guy like like 20 these 5 and I would go also when I 1st thought was I'm on my do and there's so many people that I thought like it was a little civilian virus to know for not just to close your eyes and just like walk out on your wife he's like a bad Yeah right if you will for. The scripts OK Well Charlotte. Charlie they're talking to James and Laura they're back by the way on the break for show to react to what they saw watching themselves which in itself on the Got. Next. a clean cut. In some time they had on B.B.C. Radio Devon Elton John and DANIEL So if you're on Devon's rights got the 1st traffic a travel update in the morning just before 6 o'clock news on the Alice 6 and of course breakfast with Laura James and this week guest presenter Matt Rogers that after 6 1st though just 545 and time for Monday's farming today good morning today calls for the English budget culture to be halted amongst claims that it's cruel and ineffective to start though we're going fishing in fact all this week we'll be talking about angling sitting on a river bank with a rod and a flask of coffee you get the idea now for many years it was claimed as the country's biggest participation sport I spoke to Martin Salter from the angling trust and asked if that's still the case. A lot about all sports numbers have dropped off from a drug loss and styles have dropped and we used about 3000000 people go fishing is probably nearer 2000000 now but it's still a lot of people that really enjoy getting out in the country it is largely older men isn't it is angling having trouble attracting younger people to do it. A lot of sports having trouble with participation by younger people at the moment but we work very hard we go to a whole range of angry participation projects family fishing days that we're putting on the the angry trust we introduce something like 40000 young people over the last year into angling through a variety of taster sessions so it is an uphill struggle to get particular young people away from the computer screens and out into the countryside doing something healthy there are a lot of pressures and demands on rivers we've had quite a hot summer we've talked a lot on this program about obstruction farmers having to take water out of rivers because they want to irrigate crops how difficult is that balance between what you as an angler want for the river and what everybody else wants from the river from kayaking to farming Well let's be quite clear I mean we as Britain have signed up to the European water framework directive from whether or not we leave the European Union that has been transposed into law or we are supposed to be drawing to give up the condition of our rivers are supposed to be 75 percent of our water bodies are good ecological status bar 2027 we've got no chance at the moment of hitting those targets and hitting those objectives many of our rivers are hopelessly arbor obstructed by farming us by poor agricultural practices which show c crops like my potatoes planted far too close to the rivers by soil loss of sedimentation fouling up the spawning beds for fish and losing valuable topsoil from farmer's fields and also of course by very myopic approach by governments of all political persuasions who seem to think we can continue to build houses willy nilly without even thinking where the water is going to come from Am I right in thinking that most anglers will catch fish and then put them back. Yes I mean the most common form of fishing in Britain is called fishing these are for fish that are not particularly considered edible we do everything in our power to ensure that no harm comes to our Cory because we want them to grow bigger we want them to breed and we want to catch them again when they're perhaps a specimen Sawyer's although some people do do argue that it is fundamentally cruel Well I can tell you now that I fish taken for the pots in this country if I was to take a salmon or a cold for the pot it would be dispatched very humanely and about the ones where you catch them then take a look out of their mouth and put them back in some will argue that that's not fair to the fish fish are actually cold blooded creatures they don't have the receptor in the brain that actually feel Pine they can feel shock give you a classic example of the difference between a fish and a mammal if you were to put a ring through a bull's not use and pull on a rope the bull will come towards you because it wants to avoid pine if you put a small and we usually use barbless hooks in the mouth of a fish which is the toughest part of the fish is the is the organ that use for attacking other fish and crunching up prostrations and the rest of it if you hook a fish it runs away from you and that's part of the thrill it gives you a bit of fighting a battle it wouldn't be doing that if it was in pain I do except for experience some stress and some shock but or at the end of the day if we're going to start talking about banning fishing we would be talking about banning keeping parrots encourages or even taking dogs for a walk on a lead and that's hardly natural either Martin Salter more on all angles of angling all week now she who dares farms 10 years ago the Welsh government's farming Connex program set up its 1st ever Women in Agriculture forum with the aim of encouraging female farmers to network with each other a decade on hundreds of women have attended various events including a 10th anniversary celebration earlier this year 11 to Farmer Nancy Darren is one of those who's been involved with the scheme earlier this summer our reporter Mary Claire Carey Jones went to meet her. Come along to the edge of the hedge row here and get as close as you can and take a look down and then you'll see our major production field and those lovely stripes of blue down there there is just purple just stretching ahead down the hill it smells absolutely incredible here what you do with all of this love and all we distill it we have a distillery here for to make love and are all we're in the middle of it right now we're really at the peak of the season and I should say we were the 1st plant lavender on a field scale in Wales the challenge was was a wonderful one and look at it the color and the scent do you think women are more or less likely than men to take those chances that you've taken maybe women do because we're still not equal with men so things come along and you say well I'll give that a go I mean I think that there's still truth in that in the world so wouldn't Goldman Have you had with the Women in Agriculture skied I actually been talking to meeting groups that they're helping and talking to women who are interested in starting out to develop something on on their own so I've been 2 or 3 visits here and how important is it for farmers that there are other people they can talk to and work with I think that's incredibly important and I've met some really talented people with great ideas Well I'm also joined here today by naris Hammond from farming connect there is tell me a little bit about the farming connect women in agriculture ski OK so the women in our agriculture scheme has been running for about 10 years now this is our 10th anniversary this year and the aim of it really was to get women together to network share ideas and then build on those ideas and hopefully create successful businesses outcomes of come from pharma connect over the last 10 years we've had some really good outcomes and there's always such a positivity coming from the events we get really good feedback from them and hopefully encourages women to go home and research new businesses looking into how they can improve their current business and areas and ideas for Davis vacation I suppose. But why women in particular why not just help all fathers I was to 6 show that men are more likely to attend farming connect events than women so this is just a really nice opportunity to give an event just for women to bring them all together share ideas get like minded individuals network and meet in inspirational business people and entrepreneurs like Nancy here and just learning from them really. So this is our distillery our lavender oil distillery which we call the still room and recently you've also been on a tractor driving course with farming they did send me on a tracto
