Just a moment. To . It's a very special day for the city center of forces of the 1st Battalion The Rifles if you. Actually this lunchtime going to be treated to the one ruffles homecoming freedom parade through the city at the parade is to welcome home the battalion after their operation a tour in Afghanistan are getting ready to host in the morning is the mayor of Los the cats the common organ who joins me in the studio Good morning Colleen good morning to you on a very busy day for you you're such a lunchtime then we'll talk about what's going on here with with the rifles just explain then a bit about the freedom March and its relevance to Gloucester The rifles are in fact returning from their duties in Afghanistan and the operations there were mainly humanitarian and they're coming to join us in the city to exercise their freedom of the city which we granted them back in 2011 we have the 1st rifle 6 battalion Gloucester army cadets the rifle regiment supporting veterans and members of the Lost City Council and the rifles ban will also be performing in the person and so quite a big day for Gloucester we're really looking forward to seeing them and I'm sure it's going to be a great spectacle you are going to say there is going to be a spectacle is innocent of all of those troops plus as you said not just the Battalion but also the veterans and the cadets as well all part of this and the band it's yeah it's going to be quite incredible Christmas shopping if you did if you didn't know it was going to happen certainly going to be blown away by this early absolutely all we need Steve is a little bit of decent Well fingers crossed I think just last night how important is it to have the battalion attached to the city center have this freedom and then and this freedom March it means an awful lot to us because obviously our association goes way back into history and in fact to the original Gloucestershire Regiment So it does mean an awful lot to us and of course having the Indian barracks you know just a. Miles from us as well it is really really something special for Gloucester we're very proud of our armed services Yeah and these guys of course based Beachley home for Christmas which will be great for their service of their products that's like Christmas will be great for them and their families it'll it'll be really really fabulous Yeah I am what's your role on the day then so what have you what will you be doing as part of this right well we start off but 10 o'clock to get into our ceremonial role with them processed down to Gloucester Cathedral where the troops will be seated there is a cathedral service which takes place at 11 o'clock. And then we then process back to the Guild Hall the troops will form up and then they'll start at about 1215 from the cathedral and then we take the salute. 1225 and then from there we all move into King Square where there be a reception for the troops and we end around about 2 o'clock prince asked a couple of local businesses have got involved and put on the food and drink for them as well so it's a real kind of welcome from the city not just from the dignitaries it is it just shows that the business is also welcome you know this event and to pay respect to the troops and their families and everything else and they've been really really supportive from from that point of view yeah I guess this is one of the reasons why you are suggest becoming American it to be involved in events like this. It is one of them still. There it's never boring I must admit been a mare you never quite know what you're going to do next and I think it is quite exciting but yeah it's very very full on I can assure you no matter especially this time of the year so it's not just this you do today what else are you out. Well for here I oversee go to to start this this particular parade and procession from there I I'm going to try to get out to quite chilly where there is a church fete there taking place and from there I'm back in to North warehouse to get back into ropes to process back into the city to do the tree of light which is our by the Rotarians that's always a super super charity event take place and they've got a recession this year and this is yeah. Well you know for the recession yeah I'll do it again yeah so roped twice in in one day so if you pop into if you pop into the city at large time and you see the bad part of the recession and then you think oh I forgot something pop up later you'll still be numbers are still be all it was . Still be there and from there we then go to the Salvation Army to celebrate our 140th anniversary there and up to now I haven't got one after that probably be about 10 o'clock to like you know better but what a great what a great day to be part of all of this going on a gloss that is plenty going on that is the center and it is it is and as you're aware also to link him with that next week for the we will be subject to counsel's approval we will be given freedom of the city to actually our or our allied rapid reaction Corps which is in Jim barracks effectively rain a lot of b.s. . Thing to happen as well brilliant thank you so much for taking its time to come in and explain all this morning yeah you can get ready for the ropes that they're going to you're not even. Going to be under on the back to get you very much Mary gloss the colleen organ joining us in the studio this morning then on this very special day for the city center of Gloucester this lunchtime and kicking it all off. With the freedom parade through the city and a little later on in the program we'll catch up as well with the rifles themselves somewhere like catch up with the rifle Scotty can't account for Gloucestershire at how many ads. And we get through and so nautical. Off of the Wilson Show and the stuff to make likely I. Must. Say. It's 90 minutes past 7 Good morning. Now does the name only skim some mean anything to you. I lived and worked in satellites and hearing loss this year for most of his life and it was there that he became a very famous as one of the key designers in the Arts and Crafts movement and this year actually marks the centenary of his death so his work is going to be celebrated in a brand new exhibition that opens today at the Wilson in Cheltenham it's basically a mixture of items how by the Wilson with other pieces that are in loan from all over the country a baby where to go says Joe Duran went along to the Wilson as the loans were arriving and there she met Kirsty r c o 6. This exhibition of an instance in features all of the crafts that he was involved in is really quite a lot so we've got the 1st kind of props that he learnt to do himself so he was a chair Bodger and that was one of the things that he did early on in the 8090 s. When he arrived here in Gloucestershire and we've got one of the chairs that he made by himself it's not the best chair in the world but you know starting out at that point he also made plaster work as well he made that game with his own hands and then he also designed furniture as well so more cabinet making and joinery and we've got quite a lot of that on the show both from Mark lections but also really generous loans from around the country he designed metalwork and he also designed for his family members only embroidery designs and we've got some really beautiful examples of those from family members both in our collection and from the Johnson family themselves there's a few that you said are already here at the will so that you've got back we've got a piece of furniture over here haven't Wayne and it is got 3 drawers that either side and then this lovely cabinet so most incredible wood and then at the back of it sort of little slats hasn't it can you tell me about this one so this is a sideboard. It was made during the 1st World War It's a combination of different wood so it will not and that was a really favorite word of Jensen's it has a beautiful grain to it but the plate rack at the back of that kind of latches structure that's made of something called Macassar Ebony one of the things that Jimson like to do is to look around him in the rural area and see what he could adapt and so it looks very much like the side of a Gloucestershire wagon so a lot of items here I said are in boxes and crates that we've got let's come over here and got various bits of tissue here what do we find in some of these boxes or these are some of the loan items that we have got in today in fact it's really exciting really just unpacking them ourselves this particular piece is another wooden item not a piece of furniture though this is a really lovely little box it's a box with stationery now in the Arts and Crafts movement you could have either simplicity or splendor and items that were going to be used for special purposes letter writing is so important so a stationary box is important to keeping in touch with your loved ones and for business and so this item is again it's well not a Macassar Ebony this is the same words but this time it's been inlaid with mother of pearl which we can see glimmering here little diamonds of mother of pearl in the box. He was fascinated by textiles used to take with him a piece of William Morris cloth so they had something nice to look at in horrible rooms in pubs and so on when he was travelling this is. Up. This beautiful so it's wooden frame dissin and it's beautiful embroidery where we've got we've got a tree I can see some animals in there and then some wording as well and it's very much based on 17th and 18th century samples which would have been made by you know girls as young as 9 or 10 this was made by quite a young girl actually it's a cousin of his Phyllis lovable and it's quite funny. Did but we've got the original design for this and you can see then how bright the colors where it's obviously been on the wall in the family home for a long time but what really stands out and my favorite thing on here the kind of mysterious nature of Jim's imagination because we've got a black cat climbing up on to a bird house and the birds are just about to fly away and all of these things the birds in the little tree that is the central section with 2 deer on either side it's very much inspired by textiles of the past but also picks on up on Jim's love nature. Now we go behind the scenes. This with b.b.c. Radical shoes Joe Daryn's at the Wilson art gallery and museum the exhibition the unit skips an exhibition opens today it runs until the 25th of February to get 5 pounds 3 pounds concessions and the fives go in free there but to celebrate somebody from Gloucester then he's perhaps not celebrated enough say how much I question your kind of parenting skills you know why they. Need 8 yet. David Smith. Lad So there's been a lot of winching overnight is that you. Feel for. As Nicolas Sturgeon was asked about whether she'd prioritise Scottish independence over other issues the Liberal Democrat leader Joseph winsome was challenged over her party's support for scrapping breaks it with voters accusing her of ignoring the will of the people I just think we have to level and be straightforward about it we are true European party we always have and if we fight an election on the basis of stopping breaks that people who give us a majority don't be surprised if we don't stop right there but as I say we have a lead that campaign for a people's vote and we with more liberal Democrat m.p.
