Sounds from the evening 11 on Guernsey 11 on all the way going down to 9 this evening yes not as cold as it's been but still on the chilly side u.v. Index a sad one the visibility good occasionally moderate to poor in the rain later though in south the southeast model falls for the 1st 45 increasing 6 to 7 and this afternoon but decreasing down to 545 overnight. Slight to moderate increasing rather rough this afternoon occasionally rough this evening decreasing moderate by morning with a low swell. Outlook for tomorrow Thursday perhaps dryer with some brightness for a time in the morning otherwise many clearly with their breaks of rain perhaps heavy or more persistent at times from the afternoon to well is the high tomorrow on Guernsey yet the daily dozen and 11 were both dropping to 8 tomorrow evening wins so if the southeast fresh was for strong for 6 occasionally strong 7 increasing strong for 7 to Gulf War time in the afternoon early evening. The West. Strong 6. Headlines. But right. I mean station for. Thanks. * Thank you. Hot Stuff Donna sama very good afternoon is John in for Jane if you've just joined us on this Wednesday morning well Wednesday afternoon it is now it's 10 minutes after room. And reuniting go from the drug and alcohol alcohol coordinator from Health Improvement commissions is walking through the door and as I speak. In your camera Andrea come on Christmas putting jumper on I love you on that one are synonymous How are you you know are you good looking well. Yeah I can remember last time we were talking a bell barbecuing in kids. Yeah. Yeah I mean what's one of the main concerns at the moment when I can talk about what we're doing I can talk about the drink drive can. I can talk about. Sort of going towards the New Year because I mean we can we can talk about what we can talk about what's happening to us water right you. Can talk about what's happening now. People are going to enjoy it and and I suppose it's just getting that message out that you know it's about being safe yet and remembering that you know sort of social media if they're very life and you know they've got to remember that it can be captured. Office parties and things which probably have come and gone but you know they've got to remember that the following morning do they want to be the center of attention or you know have they remember to you know to and I think it it's also about actually making plans so you know sort of that you know to make plans for the evening say to make sure that they've got a way of getting her drawing you know a driver or you know booking a taxi or knowing that they're going to get on a bus I'm sorry for anything like that so yeah yeah I'm James is another one yes I can tell you of yeah we can but we do yeah great result in Jersey great result yes yeah for God's got 15 years got caught with all that heroin Oh really I think your time he went down yesterday your biggest haul ever wow yeah yeah and I think as far as drugs is concerned definitely you know it's sort of we got to concentrate on the importers and those that are dealing and those are the ones that you know devastating people's lives and those are the ones that we want to stop. I think they're coming in something like 13000000 quids worth your wow integer if they tell me my last name so that would've written as that would have come along here so we all know it was from someone we you know come see different or yeah different. Yet I can talk about Dr January Let's talk about the Dream Dr campaign 1st Ok. As it going the police are doing a great job without me and I want Also I was like you know as under Saddam I'm a guy not party you've been to it don't forget you could still be over the limit in the morning when driving. Through Yeah yeah yeah so you know go for it yeah so so yes so we've had so far this year actually the numbers of drunk drivers have been down with a had 43 so far. But the trend over the years is sort of still quite quite new and sorry still still being sort of around $7080.00 mark which which are too many so we've got it Specsavers creative came on board this year for the 1st time and we've got a very scant pain that we hope it's going to continue throughout the the year rather than just concentrating on the Christmas time and summer time so it's basically the idea is it's a small island so don't drink and drive we know everybody knows each other we all have friends acquaintances people that we've known along the way that may have have been over the limit and have been arrested and the devastation that causes on that individual only is huge so and it impacts on everybody else. So it's. Concentrating on that sort of mode that we know each other and bumping into. To each other bumping being the operative word and that we just produced a poster for the for the drink drive campaign which is local emergency services that have got together and we've we've formed a poster with a car and a mate's bike having had an accident and we're going to distribute that 3 social media and through the paps late stage this year but I think it's trying to concentrate on our local scene and what we can do to prevent too many getting in a house drunk I did something I think was for 4 years ago from this very very studio. Or with permission of the police and I had a driver and the b.b.c. I drank a quarter what with gin in the studio pure gin my driver was Gary in a b.b.c. Car and I got behind him in the car with a police car across the road waiting so you know someone's phone doesn't run has been drinking. The police car follow us blue light us pulled us over into the salary I just wanted to go through and I did this live this was all law and mark in my hand I got pulled over into the salary corner which I wanted to I got breath lost on the spots I blew over a police van came down took me away took me with my mike in the back of a police van just talking about all the feelings I was going through what I was about to face taken up to the cost of the suite of blue again in the cost of the suite. Over the limit. And put in a cell and I went through everything somebody would have to go through get caught you know and what's going through your mind is what you tend to lose we could lose how it's going to affect your family you know you need more loss or in the margins of the job will be honest but you know the rock about me the loss they lose their income the can't buy the mortgage they can't feed the family you have a label overrode you know with conviction it was frightening very frightening in the you know I was lying in that cell just looking around this dreary cell where people who sort of damage to everything else thinking you know what happens and yeah it really was and I was running I mean you are a lucky one because when you walked out of there obviously none of those consequences would have happened but but that 1st phone call that you know people in in south make math must be extremely difficult I mean has. Come over and talk me through it and to me you know what happens next Yeah I look at the whole work and I do this all a lot but you know that's the only to have another bill from. People make plans you know like we have already said you know sort of try and remember to sort of have a have a plan throughout the evenings to make sure you have got that taxi or you know sort of if you yes you can yes or not to even take your car in in the 1st place because the temptation is always that you know sort of if you can get a lift in absolutely fine because then you know the keys aren't in your pocket and you not going to be so thinking you know I can now you know it's much quicker and I don't have to necessarily wait for a taxi or wait for oh. Very And so I can remember being in term of a lot of nights and it was over the Christmas period I did at my case in my pocket when I saw a police officer. We knew each other on the city's phone. Take those with the organs more from the station and there's no temptation No And yeah yeah yeah and they did it for me which was really good because I was in control of a lot of the remodel yap yap so we got good radio campaign it's going on so and again that that sort of gets the message that that gets message across and and then we're hopefully as the say you have to sort of put bits and pieces throughout the year just to keep drip feeding and just to try if we can to to reduce it even more now we sort of conquering the under-age drinking you know isn't going well actually we've had the results from the young people 7 and that's telling us that actually young people aren't drinking as much. Which is which is great news. But those who do are probably drinking heavily now most I am and certainly binge drinking which puts them into sort of the high risk category of drinking and that's being done over the weekend Yeah can we reduce binge drinking it's going to be a lot of parental input surely Yeah very much say so you know we can educate the young people 33 schools and we've got an ever really good education program that goes into the schools and it's not only looking at at and educating them as far as the alcohol is concerned but it's in the situations that they find themselves in you know sort of if there's less drinking then it's not. It's not imperative that they've got to do that to be part of the group anymore you know and if you if you're Lita then then it's it's really it would be really good to get those leaders to be the ones that aren't drinking or not drinking so much and that and having those tools and having the self state it's tame and the confidence to be able to say. Or to be able to have a non out alcoholic drink or to you know. Find something else to that that is a better option because we were having problems call a few years ago some of you know talking about parents applauding drink Yeah yeah and those parties sort of do go on I think parents are under a great deal of pressure from the young people to from their children to have alcohol involved in parties and perhaps a little bit more communication between the parents you know when they are putting these parties on that's what's being said by the young people perhaps isn't quite so true and that you know sort of every every party that we have had a well that may or may not be the case so so you know all the evidence with alcohol in the brain and a developing brain certainly and young people going through puberty is not a good combination and you know if they want to achieve if they want to you know do well and yes g.c.s.e. . Levels of concentration for short term memory all those sort of things they they need to be clear headed and putting our call into the equation really isn't it isn't a good idea what about little sort of it where you know they drink it I mean it's supplying a moment on drugs right yeah it's it's a very gray area I mean obviously there within an establishment if they were drinking out in public and in public places then they place a far more likely to be able to do something about that in the against the law to obviously be drinking in a public place under the age of 18 so. But. Their place which if the place was called then that they would use their initiative to deal with the sick situation of they see fit Yeah I mean there's a see saw and the parents can see if they. And drinking as well and yes and what we hopefully what we want the parents to do is to be on site because some of the some of the parties that are going on the parents leave the young people. And you know sort of if anything does go wrong then sometimes it's that much more difficult for the young people if they are all under the influence to be able to manage it and we've also got the other scenario does happen where you know you can get somebody else on the supermarket so could you just give me this. Please yes that is a criminal yes if I get really really it's possible principle yes yeah yeah I mean that would be yes that would be against the law and that would be dealt with accordingly Yes because you would be supplying to a minor Ok what else is something. I'll call and drug so well we've got the drink we've got the drug January crying up so I know it's not quite Christmas yet but Sam but they the u.k. Do this brilliantly and rather than reinventing the wheel we would be you know everyone that if they they do want to sort of have a a month 3 we would like to see it continue you know sort of throughout the whole with the year but if it's a kick start which you know sort of dry January tends to be then to either stop completely or at least to sort of think about the drinking and that and if it means just you know Larry in the amount then or just trying in half sort of. Periods of time that. Drinking or drinking alcohol isn't in the daily routine because it's great for the body to have a break and $23.00 days at least being clear of our coal it can come out of the system and then it's not being a top up every day getting used and tolerance of alcohol is as any drug would be the more the more you have particularly the more you want and the more you need to be able to get to the level that you want to get to come on the drinking and smoking Yeah yeah and drugs you know sort of any addictive sort of thing. Substance that you take off and that some are more addictive than others but if you're looking for that high and you're looking for that buzz then you know the more you the more you have the more you need yeah yeah I mean. It's sort of got partners in it you know you sort of hearing people say oh they should legalize this and legalize that but if they do isn't it going to and openly that doesn't This is my opinion all of the B.B.C.'s But if they do do you start looking for harder drugs you know because it's so easy to come by someone up and possibly you know sort of where we're having a review the moment public health a doing a view looking at their health and justice sort of systems and looking at regulation legalize ation. Decriminalize sation and penalize ation and these are sort of you know areas but. That will. That is being done for again say and and we've been consulting all the stakeholders that have an interest in that sort of area so I think we need to have that consultation. We need to sort of see what would be best you know what would be best for again say whether or not it takes you on to harder drugs and I think it's an individual that would sort of see that but there is that opportunity obviously if the drugs that were available if someone's only listen to this and I think they're possibly then my have a problem we drink or drugs we're dealing with Yeah so we've got we've got the community drug knock whole team so they are the kinda cold treatment if you like say if anyone wanted to detox or if anyone wanted some kind of medication to help to help them. Then the community drug an ox team would be the place to go and they would need to go to their doctor 1st to be referred to that as it's a secondary service but we do have independents who are drug and alcohol service and they were formerly drug concern and and they offer therapeutic watched Sex talking therapists and we also have the Afghans against the alcohol Advisory Service. And they do alcohol there in our coal service so say that there's you know places that people can really get help and support for young people we have Action for Children and they have their own websites which you can just sort of google find the numbers and you can phone directly or you can turn up and get the help and support you need. We see the others going through c.v. Will you know this time of the of the trial goes I mean the parents are just plastered all over the place because of Alcoa I mean I'm sure and have numbers they confirm anything you know yes yes and he you know yes Childline you know any Samaritans you know that they would be. To help and support that that child at that time but I think you're right you know the parents have a responsibility to those children. And often we we want them to be the role models and that's very difficult and at this time if year you know we want everyone to have great time we want everyone to be safe and and and we want those children to have the kind of Christmas that they deserve and that everyone's that and we don't want alcohol or drugs or any kind of addictive substance substance getting in the way Sundra do Christmas. Family time and so and so it'll be spent my my mom and my stepdad coming round the and we'll have a family Christmas and then we meet the rest of the family on Boxing Day and you still don't know we're not running Yes Yes I'm still doing Think of it being yes very fit. I'm trying to keep healthy and yeah loving it so long the mountain action Oh no no not running from a No it will be it'll be sort of swimming my bike I'm concentrating on that now it's called aquaponics So I've got the European Championships and the World Championships and get to next year qualified both. So the Europeans are in June and that's in Austria and then I've got the World Championships in September and that's in the Tour and.
