Will it was the mom will. Irene Kalra and flashbacks so what a feeling baby see right in Lincolnshire You're listening to comic rain it's 29 minutes past 3 and I'm delighted to say I'm joined in the studio now by Adam Richardson from Laugh Hello hi there how you doing I'm very well thank you very well thank you thank you very much for having me and I thank you for popping in I've got a copy of a fuel book now is this a day or is it a new novel it is it's my it's my debut so it's my 1st one it's a fantasy adventure novel middle grade so 12 years plus and as I say it's Juta launch next Thursday. Hearing Lincoln like that perhaps alluding to have a copy of it in your hand what does it feel like Oh it's amazing I mean to be fair this has been a very long journey for me so it's been to be fair on and off about 10 years of actually getting to this stage and more recently managed to let myself which I'm quite proud of and actually publish and kind of contract with of publishing and obviously between as then we've been you know working tirelessly around the clock truck whilst trying to fit in day jobs and kids in you know all the of the things that go with it and we finally got to that point now where you know the books are printed we're gearing up for the the actual launch event and to be fair there's quite a bit of excitement. It's quite a boss I bet there is say 10 years was that is that how long it's taken right so I mean that's left right and really it's been one of those kind of a kind of thankless task it was a case of you know I've always kind of been very creative at heart so I've always enjoyed kind of art and writing in. And basically I had this this is such a cliché but had a dream one night and this this kind of scenario panned out in my dream and that sparks kind of the actual story and it kind of has just exploded from there and over those 10 years it's kind of been a case of you know writing a bit here and then you know getting married and then you know back to the day job and then run into the bit and it's been one of those on and off but it's something I always wanted to try and achieve so it's kind of finally come to fruition which is amazing it's a great feeling you must have you know a lot of cheese that night so how did you really that inspired a book like this so again just to explain that one I kind of. Actually comes into the book so the actual dream itself forms part of one of the chapters so for all the listeners buy a copy and you'll see what I mean bought just to kind of explain it I was almost in a 1st person perspective wandering through like almost like a derelict castle. It was dark I had my kind of arms outstretched in front of me and the came to this large archway stick with me and basically this is a large door but it looked more like a tree like a large tree trunk and I began to kind of climb this this tree and almost reach this this hollow and pulled myself inside and there in this hollow was a like a very small creature with a lemon shaped head and he was kind of carried in the corner you know it's very very insane lots of cheese definitely not know it but any of this kind of purple lightning all over him and at the very end of the dream this is the point where I actually woke up this tiny spider crawled across him so that was the dream and I'm sure the listeners are thinking oh my God what's this guy on about that literally jumped out of bed at that point and wrote that down and that suddenly kind of that's where it kind of evolved from so that was the initial spark as it were kind of you know started the journey where the book is called or the and the attack of their hair spiders is that that is the spider That's right yes that's a. Set in there in their place called bric a brac a town called bric a brac that tell me about the story and what So basically that the story is set in this particular town and a lot of the actual inspiration and again one of the key things I want the listeners to understand is I'm a very very proud yellowbelly you know Lincolnshire raised and the inspiration for Britain comes from Lincoln from Lincolnshire from Louth you know which is obviously you know the town as to where I kind of grew up and I wanted to kind of capture that and it follows a journey of a family a wizarding family on the various trials and tribulations as they kind of encounter various different kind of scenarios so the town itself is basically becomes almost this this piece Enter of strange disappearances. And grisly murders and a chance encounter happens between this ancient forest Gnome which is the character or the you know the lead character of the of the book and banished warlock called black mouth so they form a bit of an alliance between them then kind of have to go on a journey through a magical world where you know they encounter strange beasts and and wonderful creatures and various different amazin kind of skates and scenery to deal with all these different things that are going on in the background it's brilliant and as it is a mix of fancy 3 twined with reality or is it that everybody strange beast in this way well as I say it's definitely the rock kind of what I would say you know there are normal people who are non-magical but it is kind of very much a witchy wizard kind of world and as a self try to bring you know almost my own creations in there so there will be some you know some new creatures and monsters and things that people haven't heard of before but always at the kind of heart of it is trying to incorporate Lincolnshire so as well as bric a brac which is a made up name the actual street names for example in Britain the majority of those are actually pulled from Louth for example so there's those in there have also got within the landscape reference of the places like dog Dyke tickle pony lark for example also all these are the places I'm trying to kind of get those in there to really put Lincolnshire on a platform hopefully throughout the U.K. And eventually the world you know that's that's my aspiration anyway so that they would lend themselves say they absolutely they really do but there's so many quirky names out there it's unbelievable and say I'm just using them to my advantage really throughout the story and you also bring Lincoln should dialect as well live Yeah well again it's something that to be fair it's kind of it's dwindling and I think it's such a fantastic dialect it really is it's so quirky and just a kind of basically it's actually a selves the B.B.C. Did a piece going back a few years with a local lady who was trying to let's say. Capture and almost archive the dialect she felt never can of corn back into mainstream language if that makes sense and I think will that be such a shame so what I'm actually trying to do and whilst it's not so much in this book certainly in the latter books because it's going to be the 1st in a series this particular book in the in the ongoing books afterwords I will be kind of. Basic trying to get as much dialect in as I can so they'll be a specific character and what I'm hoping to do is almost for it to be called a magical language in its own right so to explain that I'd say a lot of people these days they can obviously quote the Latin isms from Harry Potter you know they all know the spells and stuff and I think well why couldn't I do that with with the yellow belly dialect in my own version of my own story if that makes sense so that's what I'm really hoping to do and just to give yourself in the listener's kind of an example and this is one of my favorites actually. Is So an example here's we've got what you would call a 30 stepped ladder in Lincolnshire dialect is called a thought established and I think that in itself is just fantastic it's such a brilliant brilliant quirky language you know so I really want to try and champion that and keep that going if I can as well as the language is again that lends itself it's birth it's perfect it's perfect for a magical language so I'm definitely using that you're definitely mentioned this is hopefully the 1st of a series got the deal to the right they use book I certainly hope so as I say that we're looking over to Terry who is here is well she certainly knows my kind of aspirations and where I wanted to take it so again what I'm really after is again it will depend on the sales of this 1st book and how far we can push and promote that which again hence why I'm here today we really do want to kind of take it to is as high a platform as we can and put it on a stage of its own and again bring Lincolnshire along for the ride but really I'm hoping to get 6 books in the series so that's what might mean for this being the 1st my goodness how many Harry Potter books were there plenty of that 86 I will miss and hopefully it could be made into a bust Well that is again no it sounds maybe a bit far fetched and you know you know blue sky thinking but for me there is no limit I really want to push this as far as I can so on it to be really popular and I'm hopin that both your listeners and the rest of Lincolnshire kind of rally around me and for. You can shoot almost become the epicenter for it to then expand and snowball throughout the U.K. And beyond if we can absolutely big Why now absolutely there is no end to your talent you're also an illustrator as well and you that you've created that a lot of the images in here illustration is that something you do well I mean I must admit my entire family we're incredibly creative and it's something we've always kind of had whether it be story telling my grandparents themselves my grandfather is an amazing story teller but my brother is a 3 D. Animator my younger brother he is a cat designer my trade was graphic design you know only after leaving school so I got a step sister who's a graphic designer and a brother is a teacher as well so we're all really in our element when it comes to being creative. But yeah I've always enjoyed art and design and craft and things like that so. The illustrations were just an added bonus for me to be fair to say to be fact the original Ron It didn't have the illustrations in cause it's a bit of a strange one in that I wanted the reader to be able to use their imagination but bless it Terran interaction all infinite wisdom said a lot maybe the descriptions I was putting in some of the younger readers may struggle to actually picture so she dropped only a few weeks before hoping to get off to the print to say look you know maybe try some of the strange and I thought right let's get into gear and try and get these doormen and yeah they've turned out really well so I'm quite pleased with myself yet you have faith that very early I think you really are you mention writing while working you still work yes so courtly actually work for it's a well it's a it's a U.K. Based energy green energy company called the country city so I work for them we've got a kind of a service center in Louth So I actually work there so I'm still based in Louth But as I say you know that's that's the 9 to 5 and then as soon as I get home it's straight off and kind of carrying on with with the book work as it were and the 2 children 2 children and a wife bless her she she does all the graft whilst I'm trying and trying to trying to finish books and you know social media and all the rest of it so you know what your wife Stephanie. Steph Stephanie I think she needs a name Jack as well. Well it's a brilliant book and thank you and good luck with the launch. So the launch itself it's next Thursday so Thursday and it's right here in Lincoln So it's actually a Waterstones and that's the one on the high street so that's 297 A I believe high street in Lincoln So it's one of the arch and it's actually one in from 6 pm to $730.00 so I would just say you know it's the holidays if you are a keen reader or you're a parent that's got kids that love books please do come along is free to attend I'll be there given a talk reading some of the book myself and signing as many copies as I can so do come along it's going to be brilliant Oh I'm sure plenty of people will come through through the doors so you'll need you your pen and maybe a back up. And hopefully the 1st of many Thank you yeah absolutely and the next installment absolutely Well thank you very much for coming in to fast I think you for having me been lovely to meet you proud yellowbelly absolutely Adam Richardson talking about his debut book in the attack of the hare spiders and as we're saying at the launch of that is next week and copies will be available so where do you go ahead and have a look if you can add them up will be there with pen in hand ready and waiting ready and waiting up they live very but thank you thank you Adam Richardson he what rights under am rich it's in the book orbs in the attack of the hare spiders as we say hopefully one of a series and this book will be officially launched next week so do go along to have a look if you were able to do say it's 90 minutes to 4.
