By the conservatives pledge to have 50000 more nurses working in the n.h.s. That Hancock has been trying to clear up confusion around the numbers by saying they'll be boosted by retaining existing staff we're not saying 50000 new nurses we're saying 50000 more nurses it's really really important this. Some of those will be new to the n.h.s. Others will be measures to stop people from leaving who are currently in the n.h.s. And that the commitment that we've made and this comes to the chust point the commitment that we've made is that there will be $50000.00 more nurses in the n.h.s. By the end of the parliament the boss of The View multiplex chain Tim Richard says some of it cinemas will resume showing a film about 2 rival members of South London gangs this weekend 5 days after all future screenings would cancel its our plans wait an hour or 2 look at the timings and look at who's playing the tickets and we're going to be beefing up security where we've had problems and of the one or 2 cinemas like Birmingham where we very difficult to justify screening it again there but our goal is to try and get it to where it was last week and view stop showing blue story after a mass broadcast a multiplex in Birmingham last weekend a more than 20 other incidents in it cinemas but the director rat man says he doesn't believe the trouble was connected to his film a major trial of an immunotherapy drug has shown it can be effective for some men whose prostate cancer has stopped responding to other treatments immunotherapy uses our own immune systems to recognise and attack cancer cells the trial by London's Institute of Cancer Research in the Royal Marsden Hospital found one in 20 men who took part saw their team a shrink or disappear altogether the parents of a teenager from south London who vanished 31 years ago say they're delighted that a major football club has highlighted his disappearance 15 year old Leigh Boxer was last seen on his way to a sudden United game in 1988 the Italian giants Roma have been sharing images of missing children including Leigh on their social media and 5 of them have even been found Lee's mum and dad Christine and Peter Hope he'll be next I really think it's a good idea if this kind of throwing. Radio show with me Vanessa Feltz It's 6 minutes past 8 on Thursday the 28th of November trust you are well this morning and if you're not well I'm sorry I wish you a speedy recovery are you being treated by the n.h.s. If you all if you are involved with the n.h.s. As a patient or indeed as a walk if you work for the n.h.s. In any capacity give us a call this morning we'd like your assessment of what's going on and what your treatment is like and what the state of affairs is at the start of this election campaign bosses in the n.h.s. Called the politicians to dial down the rhetoric and avoid weaponize ing the n.h.s. Today the story of the election is the National Health Service Jeremy cool being claimed yesterday there was evidence the n.h.s. Would be up for sale under post breaks a trade deal with the Us Boris Johnson called this nonsense today the independent think tank the Health Foundation says the n.h.s. Is relying on less qualified staff to plug workforce gaps due to a huge shortage of nurses and the Royal College of Nursing say morale among nurses is an all time low it's part of the increase will come from new training new training places more prone to ship some will come from international recruitment and there's actually figures out this morning showing that international is rising as well and some will come from measures to ensure that people who are already registered nurses even stay in the n.h.s. All come back Jason Rosen joins me with more good morning sir. Yeah well that was health secretary has been touring the t.v. Studios this morning saying that this Labor Party dossier actually debunks the claims that the n.h.s. Is up for sale he told b.b.c. Breakfast the n.h.s. Will never be for sale not on my what G.'s ads he says the n.h.s. Is only mentioned 4 times in this 451 page dossier traded documents adding that it only came up because officials were concerned about it being on the table and that's the reason why Denny came up with the details of discussions about the demands of a big American they call it Big Pharma don't they big American pharmaceutical companies will still be motivating Labor voters who are worried about the n.h.s. Because it's clear us drug companies want access to u.k. Markets of course they do you know labor suggest the case agreed they could extend the Peyton's the Peyton's on some medicines which would cost the n.h.s. More but whether the weather bringing it over to everybody that tween between the n.h.s. Is for sale and some medicines will be more expensive yes maybe that's not too yes a thing is very misleading and can you imagine a British government saying that during that day everybody remembers the Olympic opening ceremony that amazing extravaganza with the n.h.s. And heart is as the jewel in our crown be questionable if any British government would do a deal that made medicines more expensive on the n.h.s. The health foundation of this morning warning that there's currently 44000 vacancies for nurses in England 12 percent of the entire nursing workforce said it'll be 100000 within a decade poses a real serious threat to patient care the Tories have pledged to bring in 50000 more nurses but within hours of that announcement Nikki Morgan was on the telly She's the Tory that was sent out to defend those numbers she that admitted that $19000.00 of those would be current staff that the n.h.s. Would persuade to stay on so a sort of double counting was going on there and as we heard from Hancock in that clip that we played just a moment ago denying more than a 3rd already on the books that the Royal College of Nursing has released there are new. A report today that women support since the eighty's and it finds morale among us is an all time low with more than one 3rd now actively looking for a new job 6 in 10 say they're too busy to provide the level of care they want to patients that's up from just 43 percent a decade ago and more than one 3rd of the 8300 nurses surveys said they're actively looking for a new job because the professions too stressful and badly paid are currently more than 100000 vacancies in the n.h.s. Including $10000.00 doctors report at the government target to create $5000.00 more G.P.'s by 2020 is impossible to meet and the newspapers today t.v. Presenter Susanna Reid talks about her mother he spent 60 years taking care of others as a dedicated nurse in the n.h.s. She wonders why it's tough to persuade young people to pick up the profession and thinks nurses are really being treated with the same respect now see my mum was a nurse no longer in the profession but worked in many London hospitals in a any mainly and his children used to love her coming home and hearing those gory details in the stories about her time in the ne department and asked Susanna Susanna says she's the person everyone in our family will go to and she says the same thing if you're feeling unwell to work out what's wrong with you she'll know what to do you but if you say see Omar if you say to your mum there is is nursing a good career these days would you recommend it to you or she would say no they now know why you didn't say that. It was better back then right now it's much more difficult to get into the nursing profession because you have a degree I just say ah yes and she isn't she would say she wasn't educated she was carrying she wasn't caring it has never to be enough now what season is saying that women like her mom I'm I no longer want to become a nurse there are limited career choices now for women nursing has to compete with so many options. Sadly she says she can't help but feel that part of the problem is that nurses aren't being treated in the same respect now especially by politicians she says instead of respecting says we started blaming them for problems they don't create and in doing so we're making everyone else. Less safe the pay wasn't great but the status was great and something is it it's the idea that you are doing something important that matter is you know that people admired respect you for it you know you're paying a pivotal policy in people's lives I've told before the story you know I haven't had an operation middle of the night and a nurse came in she was like I actually. Remember she's pretty it wasn't pretty what she looked like when she behaves like one and she said it 1st me clean your teeth for you because then you'll feel so much better and then and then a drink and it was just you know you just I pass your name the rest of my life and since London taxi drivers used to give free rides anyway yeah I think. London taxi time struggling to. Jason thank you very much indeed let's talk to Sabina Why do what does n.h.s. Nurse for more than 30 years high Sabina thanks for joining us this morning morning and it's our pleasure to take pleasure to speak to you and thank you for all the work you've done and you know we're hearing for the from the Royal College of nurses that the nurses this is an all time low Why is that it is it is because I was telling you this that I hear about 4 or 5 years ago I spent some time with my husband. My late have been in the hospital it's name hospital where I work all my life yes and I found. There was one covering medical admissions moved out 14 beds bill 3 I'm qualified as a student and the fact was I took him in at about 6 o'clock and he was seen till about 1 o'clock o'clock then by the last book I think couldn't come round there wasn't enough to have so much paperwork to do with the patient and I think that is not really nursing is a job as you said that he came in clean did let me clean your teeth those are the. Things nursing is a human daily job you know you want people to give comfort and that's that's not there and hence nurses don't feel well you'd they don't feel that that's not the job they came to do they didn't come to pill fill in reams of paper really I never asked for Sabina What do you see to be done and could be done to help you do you know to reinstate the nurses a feeling of being enormously valuable and absolutely essential an integral she was all our health and our survival I mean it can't be more important than not it it is you say that but you know what happens every election time when the politicians come there is the public expectations so high they always make n.h.s. The thing to kick about football is a very clichéd word but there's something you know just kicked about talk about n.h.s. And we will. Be public to guess that expectations and they're not met after election stuff on the. And guess the length of it I think no I think 2 things One thing was the birth rate it's explained it's a good job to some extent it is the work. Who would want to go and. Not give I think unless you want to do it. You know the. Yes thank you Sabina very much indeed we're talking about n.h.s. Taking your calls 187312000 we'll be straight back after the travel. The telephone number 871-2000 loads of checks and emails coming in as well and thank you very much indeed this is from Claire classes I'm sitting in bed recovering from detached retina surgery was she basically she says this has been a really scary and emotional time and still is but my n.h.s. Experience has been outstanding I'm going to pull my hospital I found myself in a building full of the most wonderful people despite being very busy every member of staff is treating me like a real person and been so kind and understanding they've been busy but smiled and cheerful to all the patients and shown so much compassion I can't thank them enough or praise them enough for the cat and kindness they've shown me and the other patients I'm Todd now and thank you Vanesa for give me great radio that's very very nice is when I can keep my eyes open for the always Tibet eclair thank you very much indeed this is from Mary who says morning our n.h.s. Has never let either me or my family down 4 children 6 grandchildren elderly mum with dementia plus myself in the mini stroke an excellent team without counsel talking to a senior nurse recently her daughter set a house on being a caring nurse but I thought a level wasn't high enough and she didn't get accepted this is one of the problems also Stoffel say the main problem is far too many managers who haven't had experiences of working through the n.h.s. And she likes to say Mary thank you very good wishes to you as well let's talk to lure in Crystal Palace Hi Laura good morning. Steve I think speaking to our camera not essential Would you now Jason Rosen just said in the old days you never that was beautiful cab drivers are not ladies of The Road used to give nurses free rides in caps what would you like to say about that like it's going to get I would think it listening and I think you know I had to sit there in a 5 months ago and I think you know I'll call her that they're not talk about that and then I thought no no you never thought maybe that I mean. To me you know no. Fine owners. But then he said and I said Right now I'm going to call and I'm just going to take my husband's a black cab driver he's in bed at the moment for me from a nice gift but he was my say and he gave a free ride to and if he knew that she were here she was a nurse in the back of a taxi most definitely he still does that so I just wanted to call and say that really. But also to say that yes off to the emergency Serin I had was fantastic and I wonder what would happen to me my baby if. Within kind of seconds of meeting that says area and they were kind of 15 people in my room and I don't know where they came from but they all came out of nowhere and the room was full of all these people that were going to help me have my baby and deliver him to healthy and well yeah you know I had the same with my elder daughter you see you see h. Exactly to be materializing you said it's a really good description from nowhere so yeah it was full all she trundled And yeah and the calm the extreme calm coupled no yes of panic so I noted that the that the operating the action which is the this is and this was literally I did a young dog from the room in which she was in labor where it's in Yes and I've heard in private hospitals this may not always be true but often it is you have to wait in a lift and it's the same because. Of the patients and people visiting. Them and it was terrific I think Yasser it yeah yeah I mean and I remember them saying to me the d.n.a. Statistic was kind of up my head and she was saying there's lots of people who talking talking at the same time it may sound like they don't know what they're doing but said everybody's hair watering. Kind of perfectly sort of professional and I don't know what they're doing here it may sound scary to you say it was just amazing I did have one of the nurses in the aftercare wasn't very nice one of the moon things and I was kind of standing there with my stitches and holding the baby and I saw. Kind of fear and pain. My stitches were starting to really my skull was starting to throw up and I had the baby in my arms and I just I didn't really know quite what stage without him on the bed and I called the court and asked for somebody to come and help me I mean he was a very nice actually and I was 15 I think I was having. 2 or 3 of them in the rain and I really. Crying and standing there crying and she just said to me what's wrong with you what do you need. And she just said I'm very busy right now but couldn't articulate what I need you I need something. And then she disappeared to help me but then about 5 minutes later I heard I was crying in the really kind of keep and I just. One of the midwife say I can hear one of my ladies crying and she was paid to head around the internet what's the matter and I just thought that's all I needed I just. A caring kind of face and voice and and everybody thought that one person and I was in hospital for 3 days after phenomenal and I am doing now as a new mom yeah Riyad. I think yeah yeah you know my life at the moment but if they give me some attention to do we need to meet. You in there and you're never be nervous to phone you know. Even if you just want to have a chat that's absolutely fine lovely to talk to Lauren Crystal Palace they're saying she knows that they're all kept divers who do taxi drivers who still give nurses free rides her husband still does that to this day might bring another
