Today Tonight will be cloudy with the old drizzle a few clear spells will develop as the night progresses the overnight low a full degree Celsius. Spring. Just to the north. The. From joining me here in the studio I went through a difficult time in our life. Facing illnesses and debilitating conditions and soon. To be just. That was Genesis and Invisible Touch Monday afternoon with its past 2 on B.B.C. Radio documentary somebody who could change your life just by listening to what Suzy Bailey has to say you could find yourself in a better place Hello Susie good to meet you I don't know how are you today right I'm very well thank you I'm really well good you have a new book just published which we'll talk about the 2nd one the fabric Yes looking at the way you can make life better for people I mentioned that part of this came out of a difficult time that you were facing so just go back to before you'd written the book what what was happening that led you to really evaluate where you were OK so my mum had broken arms I went to look after her realised that she was really really unwell fiber my Alger I.P.S. Depression anxiety so many things medication wasn't helping so my degrees in human and medical genetics so I looked to the research to see if I could find anything to be honest not expecting to find anything but did and so she tried all of these different things like taking probiotics and various lifestyle changes taking some things out of a diet outings and things and essentially everything right so harassed it reflects 1003 days the depression B.S. Playing diety way this is because she did what it's like lifestyle changes so now I'm not surprised about this because now I know that most chronic disorders the ones that last longer than 3 months chronic inflammatory disorders are caused by lifestyle things that we're doing. My genetics training taught me that these things can sort of explode in a population. By genes alone because that just doesn't happen I already knew that but I honestly wasn't expecting the change but she got better even her thyroid problems had an underactive thyroid has even that improved So specifically what did . Ask her to do that this is your own mother probably not necessarily in the best frame of mind from where you've described it is nothing against a few but some reason or along comes you know bossy boots daughter you know what to do now so the thing is I wasn't being bossy and I just had a moment just in some research and it looks like this might help you know I'm I'm amazed an intelligent woman she said minded and so she said well you know the meds thing is working so hey let's give it a go so diet was I want to date for the 1st thing we did was. That she took some probiotics. So again the probiotics. The research is strange specific so specific strains of bacteria are shown to help specific disorders so what I did was try to find a probiotic that had the particular strain thing I'd found could help. Now we take you to far off on a tangent this whole world of probiotics is interesting isn't it because there used to be things you could buy in the supermarket that claimed they were probiotic Now those selfsame things aren't allowed to call themselves probiotic out yeah they come and because that they're not under the. Drug thought regime here so how did you alter the bacteria the probiotics with your mother was it through commercially available product fish oh yeah there was I found some on of I cut their brands by farms and that. They did have their strengths and it again the argument against these things is that the passage of the stomach if you drink probiotic what used to be known as a problematic drink with the stomach acid just wipes out the bacteria before it gets to the guts anyway OK So only with a tablet of probiotics that much of that isn't alive anyway they are it's a sort of a dead probiotic which is no use to anyone so these are research prevent to get rich to cut life so I researched can research the strains of bacteria I research the company I research the company who make the bacteria for this company because that's what I do and so I knew that they were that but how quickly did you see a change so as I say 3 days harasses reflects that gun shows they stopped having gluten and dairy gluten from wheat barley and rye. It's never just the one thing I just want to say that before we continue with probiotics because it's never just never just the one thing which is why I think there is often one things to look at so this is just in that with these 9 things you will pick a few and do do those and then see if it makes a difference of the other one and then try and work out which you know per many 6 from 9 type of things so I always suggest that people if anybody had. Ever taken antibiotics or if they stressed that the micro biome the bacteria can be out of balance potentially So if you've got these chronic disorders then I would usually recommend that people do their contraindications some people shouldn't take then you will see that everybody's OK and that is quite unusual for people who have short powerful There are quite major. Major surgery things like that but it's there I write about it on my website and it's not included by the people but I have just the one thing there is out there saying you are what you eat and what does a good thing yeah it's not all just about diet I know Suzy and we will talk more. In a few minutes about the couple of books you put out without wellness is easier than you think and healthy body healthy weight healthy minded fall even easy steps as you can from $9.00 to $5.00 that. Shortly after a quick blast in the Mavericks that follows the. I mean the proof from all the evidence. Destroyed. We don't need a paper T.V. License. To paperless online. OK well. Managing your T.V. And we've. a. Koan. Dance the night away that was the Mavericks on B.B.C. Radio not human our song they are dealing with a difficult situation through the power of. What have you done to make yourself feel better over the years I wonder maybe you've taken up new exercise regime perhaps found a new person in your life which is perch you up a little bit changed the diet seems to be the basis of what city babies spoke about so far on the program and so the notion of you Well what you eat is examined in some detail and it's not just some specific foods but it's the bacteria that live in the gut which can be promoted by certain foods I mean it does seem a weird thing but I've heard other people saying this recently there seems to be a connection between the gurgling tummy and the the swirling mind how does that will you or your geneticist How does this work how does that link exists so this is the thing it doesn't by genetics at all is that whole new thing but they got the got the got my car by. Even the color on they do so much more than we used to have used to kill everything off right because the ones we just covered were pathogenic then we realized Oh no they've all got these benefits so yeah the reason why the food is necessary is because they live on their soluble fiber that we can't digest from our vegetables and that's why it's really important to eat a good supply vegetables so what's the mechanism of what they're doing in the gotta know what's happening in the brain that they make things like they make under logs they're things like neurotransmitters that our brain can understand so things like they help to make them as well so I things like the return name the happy home or gap which is very relaxing so that influence the brain can also influenced our taste but Receptus So we're eating things that night so yeah there's a huge break connection so is there a part of the story which is a little of what you fancy does you good if your taste buds so much potato that we'll probably going to have some not necessarily because it might be a different sample if you've got too much of that. Then that can make you crave sugar Yes So you have to sort of listen to your head and think you know is the great. Taste but this thing actually I quite fancy it in 6 cakes my breakfast that might not be a good thing when we know that really we should be eating you know perhaps less sugar Yeah I have to sort of look at the evidence as well as well as thinking about what people eat and how that can impact on. The mind for lesser people that you're with whether they're depressed or happy or not this based on what you were going through what your mother was going through a few years ago you've got other things as well that were important in a why there are some of them are obviously not getting enough sleep reducing the amount of stress in your life and we've heard this often enough I suppose but we still feel there's a need to get that message across. People are heeding the warnings I think I think it's because we don't realize what happens when we don't get enough sleep when we are stressed and I'm talking about not talking about stress you know something happens in a car something talking about a lot lower level ongoing stress which says that's the press is your immune system so natural killer cells are suppressed so if we get cancer cells that don't kill those off very well and it kills off some of the good bacteria in your guts that we don't have the healing properties they have the good bacteria for example in terms of sleep. So we just by not getting enough sleep there's a there's more risk of crushing For example if you're driving a car said Professor Walker and he talks about that he's asleep expert and so there are lots of things that we sort of think oh yes yes sleep or or exercise but it's how that there are linked so exercise for example can help you reduce your weight which then can help you get your instilling levels back in balance which thing which usage of risk of Type 2 type B. Taste and all of the things that sort of linked to really everything I talk about in the book. That relationships come into this as well so not just brush it with a partner presumably but know your interactions with everybody and the suggestion is if you address how you deal with other people you might end up feeling a whole lot better about yourself literally your physical state will improve when you prefer I talk about how to have better relationships with people so you things of mindfulness practices those shown to and hence various parts of the brain that help you develop better relationships with other people as well as know what's happening in your own body and have more empathy if you know where it shows that it increases. Productivity reduces stress so mindfulness mine from this is also important because we have a huge resistance to change in the brain so when we are more mindful we can make wiser decisions perhaps you know talk about cakes for breakfast that we talked about earlier so it's just you know all of these things are sort of linked to catch one big. If you can and that must have been interesting to examine the threads a. Little bit more with. 24 minutes past. The hour. You keep me hanging on that was the Supremes on B.B.C. Radio. Nothing about wellness a month from his teacher I think I've learned a lot from you already so far Susie the suggestions that you make about changing lifestyle more exercise more mindfulness thinking about how you go about your life but wait. A may seem easy enough to talk about on the radio but what about people actually putting into practice is there some difficulty that people have changing their diets they've been eating something for all of their life and they are saying you know you got to give up the bread because it's got gluten or whatever other people deal with the idea of denying themselves something you're absolutely right and their survival brain doesn't like change because it says hey you survived 10 now you've been eating the bread don't change because something bad might happen so your brain's telling you not to make the changes my man. She stopped likely wouldn't you say OK but she really left 10 coffees that she called them and so she would periodic Lee go back to sneakily and then she would be on well OK And I think that he changed back to anything and she's well yeah I'm having my milky coffee I think is the milk right I think the milk fine at the symptoms so she's OK it took 18 months before she finally stopped taking take drinking it at all to develop replacement or just called lack of a thorough Yes that is a cut their prime but isn't a fabulous all connect are meant to milk which I think is really similar to me you know yeah yeah and also you can make hot coffee in there and it's nice Yeah yeah you just got to find and you know it just takes a little bit of research digging about to find the thing to make the change so you have sessions for people to learn you've got that wellness is easier than you think which is the 1st 2nd. And the healthy body healthy we're healthy which is a more detailed look at what you learnt it can find these books by Susie Bailey. Just before you go I'm sorry Time is against us it always seems to fly by earlier in the program that I have a brief to wonder about as we're talking about people with unusual things they can do with. The body will not unusual there so I'll show you this is the sort of thing I mean I can do that with my thumb and people when I do that and I can also move my eyeballs independently and I think I could do if you want to be true but it doesn't look great Is there anything you can do along those lines or any any sort of quirk me personally yes no it's genetic I wouldn't either do it or you can do you like turn right can you do can you will not I know I can't I don't have the genes not only when we were going well yeah we were doing a lot of tongue rolling in the off. Field actually like you come in they say oh you're blank temple right. OK but yeah but you've got something I'm going to find webbed feet so that's church say yes. That is the end of the year the best way I already know who would know I'm not going to ask you to be your feet. So I actually said. One of them to me thank you so much for you good people are still here I've given people a way of thinking about long term chronic conditions that sort of pills and potions and medical advice don't seem to be hitting you think you can make a difference I guess we ought to say on the warning of people shouldn't go straight chasing all this way out of the G.P. I was thanks though I say so in the book I said on my website I say work with your G.P. Not you know don't just give everything up and look at the book I was thinking yeah absolutely OK thank you for giving us well I know it's an insight bus to you and health. So looking at the news headlines today 3 people are dead after a gunman opened fire on a church in the Dutch city of Utrecht of course being told that a toddler who was originally from Mansfield had suffered rib skull fractures before her death and a 12 year old girl from not him diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia is appealing for a bone marrow donors to come forward of this afternoon some rain and drizzle possible not as breezy as yesterday 10 Celsius. Into the sea evening and overnight cloudy with a patch of drizzle and a low of 4 Celsius tomorrow mostly cloudy chance of some drizzle well too broad a scope developing those you go through and a little milder even than today 13 Celsius tomorrow is hot. Heading. From the right. Then there's a set. With Abbie right sticking really busy a small queue coming into the city as. Mansfield there is on the M one south. 25 down to 24 at the moment. Because for building fire. A little tease for you on the way with the playback competition to identify a. Trifle would help you spuds try to. Rearrange those letters if you come up with a. Place for music. After that James Morris some of. My love goes on. And just stowed. Spuds didn't try for spuds didn't trifle. Spud's dingy trifle rearrange those letters and you'll come up with a musical performer and it is the same musical performer who are. At least in some part responsible for this. To do with that and what is it that scans the charts in the late eighties and singer whose name when jumbled up becomes spuds dingy trifle I under 67834341 the text I want to bring knots as the 1st word it's the sound of almost coming out of yourself this you know when people sort of are. Stressed or they're trying to work through a problem and they are the therapist will say as constraint on this music just step out of yourself let the music take hold of you see you as the music takes you. Somewhere New Age sounding This is. Who is it what is it. The playback this afternoon on B.B.C. Radio. Your still the one. That. Steve. Steve told Let's. Plug. Plug. Is still up. Still up. In. The tablet. To. Scold. The Should I train you'll still the one I have here in the beach there Aaron this feels like there's a power cut that's because there is a power caught in the Beast today around Humber road Western power distribution said they expect supplies to be restored within the next hour but around $700.00 properties in Beeston are without power around Humber road so if that's you sit tight should all be back on within the hour say Western power distribution and then when it does will come back on the modern joy of going around and resetting all of the electronic clocks which would reset themselves to midnight as they were the power interrupted you'd think by now we would have worked out a way of clocks having some sort of way of keeping time when they haven't got power to them might have very annoying we have about got I going round really reprogramming all the clocks annoying I mean it's it's a small thing but you know small things sometimes annoy me greatly and it will out of proportion me what about they question full. Playback you know this is doing this this thing it. Has got it right. Julia Mansfield I think correct to. Take note of my anagram for the performer here the anagram and let's face it is one of the better anagrams that I've come up with spuds trifle. Trifle label mates with Ned's Atomic just back in the day. Trifle rearrange those letters and see who came up with and then try mark out the music that you're hearing which has been met with here. Doing the equivalent of looking at it in the never. Write 343 4th tell me on the text a bunch of 3 knots is the 1st where the neurons. Live I was kiss and crazy crazy nights on B.B.C. Radio $31.00 about the mornings they're pretty fantastic on B.B.C. Radio last year and Andy and Sara the smore ning getting to grips with a change perhaps in something that is very traditional in the run up to Easter and the and Sarah discussing the exotic new flavors of hot cross buns which are being sold and whether they are actually needed just grab a piece of want to give it a bit of a sniff 1st jump the gun I've actually already start an interest. I'm getting cinnamon and autumnal winks in the dark I say this one is the chocolate and Karen melon So how do you feel about that I think I've just won the bunch and quite frankly jump entire melts away forwards about your throat and I have. Felt that this is the swapping going on I'm a bunch Juris I would always say that we should stick to the traditional ways so lovely plump current's keep it that way. Talking to Haiti comes in this morning on B.B.C. Radio here about their Easter treats but always a hot cross buns or hot cross buns. Never heard anybody say hot crossed bun. Until today maybe I'll be getting it wrong all my life . Take that greatest day. Allen our people are going to hit you with as a power cut says Gary suffering about the power cuts in Beeston and trying to inform and help people through this difficult time said that Western power distribution said the power will be back on within the hour around humble road in Basten I thought I was being a usef
