Looking in that today and more details throughout the program but let's get the travel news no with and what he won't say morning on really any improvement on yesterday you know there is looking at Scott Shields website it is all looking fine apart from the ongoing issue with the West Island Lane So basically it won't fully reopen Scott you'll know see till the 22nd of this month that Real been having a look at the lane which was flooded so there's a temporary timetable in place in the meantime on the roads and muddy the benign one or 3 is closed that inch Betty real we bridge you can divert along the 96 fire most toward looks a bit in Maine that will be a longer journey that is not too bad but there's a high wind forecast. And expected swell conditions and brought it on and so means cow Marcus had to cancel the 7 o'clock out of address and the 820 from Broaddrick it's also a technical issue with one of the boats on the run here the aisle of odd and basically country camper vans of trailers at the moment and weather wise possible destruction and some other comic services like calling tidy and I want to do check if you're planning a fatal journey today that's B.B.C. Radio Scott the travel there let's hear a bit more about the weather and starting off a pretty wet outside here this morning so what's on the cards here's in London with the details good morning thank you good morning to you Well it's looking unsettled with heavy rain moving north through this morning at tire start in the far north through before that rain at odds with some blustery winds heavy and persistent rain at the moment through Jim fleece and Galloway will continue to work north and east through this morning's was through the central belt for many morning commuters This has the potential to cause localized flooding and in turn some difficult driving conditions you have a yellow warning from the Met Office for that reason and that's followed until midnight and extends across most of middle and Scotland as you B.B.C. Radio Scotland weather and thank you very much for that to and indeed the rain is starting to fall across parts of the country the Met Office is on was saying a forecasting a yellow warning for Scotland today's 2 broods meteorologist at the Met Office joins us now in morning to Stuart good morning so this rain is set to continue all day as far as we know. Certainly for. The straight into pretty hairy clean same car. Really heavy conditions are hard to listen to this is a broader area of rain so it's more than most but. Intensity of a not quite as a fairly recent days but to say just persists lately to lead to a build up of a water. Little sunshine disruption there looking some brighter weather coming into science later on so it's not complete bullshit through the day and office for the Saugus years of dry weather before the rain and ice OK but generally then does that look like that of those that need while we're on air this morning and people out there that we know getting up and making their way to work then that it will be very wet conditions. Certainly courses and half of the country probably going to get a bit of creation and last but looking I don't have a picture across the northeast as we call Incidentally it's morning and here's a pretty heavy rain to come here. To the northern oil so probably Scaife until evening and really not quite a savy protect because of there and I mean you're talking there but maybe not not just the force of rain and the you know the sudden doesn't pours that we have seen recently but these these are a problem aren't they when you get you know the sort of flash flooding an area is unreal even roads in and drainage which just can't cope with the volume of rain yes that's right on the big could be about situation again tomorrow where we're looking to return to the sort of weather about a couple of days ago for which to see some pretty intense hours putting a lot of rainfall in a short time in the US for New Guinea's big issues OK Well thanks so much for joining us this morning Stu proofs there from the Met Office and the course we will keep you up to date with say those conditions with our travel and weather bulletins to the program 11 minutes past 6 a carroty is warning us not to cook up a storm in the kitchen and put ourselves at risk by misusing electrical kitchen appliances and Alex is still Scottish fire and rescue data by the consumer Tata T. Electrical safety 1st says there were 220. 8 accidental kitchen fires last year that's equivalent of more than 40 a week when McCartney's deputy public affairs manager at the charity he joins us now from our Edinburgh studio Good morning to you Good morning that seems an extraordinary number doesn't it 228 about what are we yes it is over 4 fires a week we face is being caused by the misuse of kitchen appliances and further research we've caddy sure are a kitchen habits of people gives us some insight into why this might be happening we facing that one in 3 score this high tide in electrical accident in the kitchen almost one in 5 hides admitted to falling asleep with food left cooking in the kitchen over half a day or credit we do store things on top and make sure we've seen. Over a 3rd of Scottish people we've the high use with kitchen appliances such as tumble dryer store washing machines running a quarter leaving them running while they're sleeping Yeah yeah you could well some of those are clear sticking things on top of microwaves falling asleep when something's on the hold button or in the oven and leaving and will get a bit later but the one in 3 suffering electrical accident what does that mean so that would range from. Shore off a burden as a result of one of these things happening so it ranges across the board what we find also that with looking at the fire starts where the curves. Often are unsurprisingly where the most common appliance is to be involved in fires really to to misuse so it's really important that people regularly clean their crews in groves and also a big one is not to get distracted when you're cooking something yeah I'm not cleaning your could argue it often makes it more likely to go in fire then does it does so one in 5 Scots that we that we surveyed a. Message to all the cleaning there of and go. There are not cleaning are going to grow within a year and what that can lead to is a bold up of geese and Graeme obviously they can cause a fire of course there have been a number of quite high profile. Incidents and Grenfell being one of them it's caused by a faulty fridge freezer and we've also had. A lot of publicity on these tumble dryer it would seem go on fire because of the build up and fluff and there filters mean that it's partly down to faulty goods through isn't and there's nothing really that people can do about that there is you've identified a couple of issues there are still worth kitchen appliances such as fridges and freezers dishwashers and tumble Dyer's they already perform waters on them which can cause serious damage if a fall occurs saw we advice customer consumers to make sure they're in the high use it when they're using these appliances and in relation to tumble diaries in particular as you've said there was a there's been high profile cases and incidents with a whirlpool tumble dryer for example and that was the cause of buildup of the went and we did advise anybody Westing that if they think they've got a fix to tumble whirlpool tumble dryer to get in touch with the company and start using their machine you are getting consumers to be a bit more careful with this report but what about pointing the finger at the industry do they not have to do more just make sure that their goods are a lot safer and the people I met be a little bit more informed about how to use them. I think both ways I think the industry does need to see some responsibility and they are making progress in that regard but we're hoping to educate consumers so they know the dangers that they are particularly relevant in the kitchen you know we live fairly busy life and it's very easy to become complacent and distracted and that's when things can happen in the kitchen it can I just it was just one last thing you mentioned when we were talking about accidents in the kitchen and electrical shocks How can you avoid that is that not something wrong with the relativity supply. We would always advise consumers to have the electrical installation tasted on a regular basis and that will identify any particular problems with your supply and in that can oversee alleviate some of it took shock potential incidents also we would urge people to have an R.C.D. Fitted Israel which is a good detailing shocks in the home which. So you can fit it the easiest. Protection would be to fit it in your consumer unit so your fuse box and that means that if. The problem has been detected in your electrical supply in your home that will shut off the power so the TRYING TO THE know it's a shocker or minimal Well when Mike I thank you very much indeed from electrical safety 1st joining us there from or at investor job just going to put this out where another thing not to do at this time of the morning is stick a knife in a twitter I know people who are guilty of 17 minutes past 6 Previously on The Afternoon Show at the Edinburgh Festival she said but everyone will remember all parties the contra locks if the husband leaves the company because you're watching that it is just me cannot stop right Good god you're always going to go. You did not accompany your husband's policy. Only according. To you were very quick on the dollar bill why do you think as they came to prominence it's good to be here and in the sky and it's a lot that he's $38.00 inside you know it's just been happening here for hundreds of the afternoon show at the Edinburgh Festival where turns Monday from to with a rod start on B.B.C. Radio Scotland You're listening to Good Morning Scotland 70 minutes past 6 now let's catch up with the business news team in the Khyber is with us here this morning and Jamie the 1st estimate for U.K. Economic growth in the 2nd quarter of this year the last 3 months will be published this morning yes in detail we will get the data at half past 9 and the estimated figure it's going to cover in April May and June and the expectation is that we're sure that Britain's gross domestic product or economic output stagnated growth accelerated in the 1st 3 months of the year as companies offer produced and stockpiled goods in anticipation wrongly of course as it turned out that breaks it would be at the end of March let's hear from you McCafferty from Oxford Economics the global economy has slowed down quite noticeably ready relative to where we were late last year and into the early ready part of this year but secondly Breck's it uncertainty is also having quite a marked impact particularly ready on business investment which has been falling quarter on quarter for the last 3 quarters or so so that too is acting as a significant drag on G D P. And to me as well as share as we're hearing in the news there have tumbled So what's going on with them sports basically Healy the taxi human company's profits simply fiend's to live up to expectations revenue growth slowed in the fields of heavy competition and that led to the company posting its largest quarterly loss No it certainly was a big loss it was to $5200000000.00 That's $4300000000.00 pounds and the figure covered the 3 months to the end of June and that was against $878000000.00 in the in the same quarter last year and its rivals are spending heavily to expand but the competitive pressures Well we can see what they're like and as you've seen the share focused on tumbled it was the 13 percent and after restricting OK Jamie thank you very much more from Jamie about half an hour's time let's take you through the front pages of the papers lots of different stories leading the papers this morning I will start with The Guardian which leads on politics it says German Corben has called in Britain's most senior civil servant to intervene to stop Boris Johnson forcing a new deal Breck said in the middle of an election campaign and made rising signs the country is heading for the polls this autumn the Labor leader has apparently wrote to her Mark Sedwill the cabinet section secretary accusing the prime minister of plotting an unprecedented unconstitutional and anti democratic abuse of power and that's after it emerged that number 10 would be prepared for the prime minister to stay in post and call an election immediately after the 31st of October if you lose is a no confidence vote among M.P.'s you know elsewhere the prime minister is making the front pages in one way or another the Telegraph John says the election spending spree says that he's preparing the ground for November general election after ministers announced a fast chunks. Ending review to fulfill his multi 1000000000 pined pledges. It's taken up on the Times as well particularly this pledge to overhaul the immigration system the prime minister promising to make it easier for leading academics to settle in Britain when it had left the European Union but to its been accused by a Nobel laureate last night for taking scientists for foods after announcing the plans to attract what he called the best minds from around the w
