Next week and available to preorder right now it features some of his favorite songs of all time including see me on the title track at last we're going to be hearing from him shortly but 1st he is the 1st single from the album this is his version of love is a battlefield. RINGBACK RINGBACK READY READY can't. Make in these days. The. Way. The best. Lead. The. More just stunning love is a battlefield 1st try to be released from Luke Evans debut album at last and I'm delighted to say they joins me now from our London studio welcome to show look Hello how you doing how very very well indeed that it's this I'm just looking at the notes and looking over your hearing your incredible career which is which has been you know it's been fantastic There were talks about you know your success in the west and then obviously yours as your film career as well but this I'm guessing because obviously music has been such a massive part of your life growing up there's this this album must be very important passionately. Massive massive probably more than anything else to be honest with you because singing was what I did before I even realised I wanted to be an actor you know it singing was what I did to. I sang at parties and to my family you know I sang at weddings funerals whatever people would ask me to sing I'd sing and it's been part of my way of communicating as well you know I've I've always loved the way you can relate so much through music and lyrics so to finally get to record an album after such a diverse career you know going from musical theatre into into film and now coming back to what I've always loved my album it's just been great it's so good it's. Very nice timing to do as well you know just with just people beginning to know you so well for so many different things and so musical talent with a figure on still you know we had to sing the Queen's Birthday grow up at home last year and then so it's a timing thing is that been important for you absolutely I sort of you know I've wanted to make an album for a very long time but I think it needed to incubate for a while I needed to do my my my films and enjoy that process which meant that the singing took a backseat for a while but it really was firstly it was the beauty and the Beast that the movie was such an enormous film like absolutely enormous I got to sing and that sort of pricked up people's ears to go back so you actually can sing as well as act you know and then sing for the Queen's birthday last year the Royal Albert Hall that was a really wonderful moment that sort of where the ball started to roll and about a year ago I was approached by a record producer. Who then said I think it's I think it's time I think this is the time you should do it so it was a lovely moment as I was like at last which is sort of the title of the album that's where it came from I was lazy vitally you know this is when it's going to happen and so yeah yeah she just gave ideas Oh it was always going to happen it was just you know finding the right moment to to get a I guess and also make sure have an audience that want to listen to me sing you know and know that I can sing so that let it happen organically even though I got a little impatient over the years of wanting to do it but I think this is the perfect time yeah think you're right and as you touched on the 100000000 streams and after Beauty And The Beast in the Queen's birthday and then another white audience saw you on Saturday strictly What was the reaction been like well we weren't expecting at the top to be honest we. We're all a bit shocked at the positive response the social media exploded over the overnight . It was just amazing I think a lot of people weren't expecting me to sing which is a very difficult song in the male repertoire of musical theater bring him home it's a very high it's right in the top range for a tenner but it's a song I've loved and of sung since I was 16 years old I auditioned with that song when I would get into college. And now it means so much more to me as a 40 year old man who has been through life experiences and you know what it what those words mean and it's sort of sad so perfectly with the remembrance theme Sunday's show Strictly. It just worked perfectly in the way they staged it and you know the audience apparently I mean I've been working abroad for the last 6 months shooting a t.v. Show the party they clap often during that song wherever it is were because they clap in the dances but they didn't make a sound it was like silence until the song was finished so I think it just all felt just it was all very. Just it was sensitive and it I don't know it just plucked right heart strings a lot of people were crying Apparently I hope they were crying for the very real I was almost I was listening to Allison 1st time on Monday I was coming from home from under dark journey in a train and heading back and I had on my headphones and got me to so stunning stunning performance as as as as many people are saying Tell us about some of the songs on the album because you got interesting mix in there because again because of us beautiful tenor voice that you have has been a lot of songs the other being the Ridglea but by female artists that's right we realized when I narrowed it down to 12 songs that 80 percent of the songs that I've chosen were sung by women and hadn't necessarily been ever recorded by men or by the male voice so that itself was unique and that sort of took us on an interesting theme we realize most of the songs of on the album In fact all of them are about love either losing it or finding it or wanting it or the heartbreak of you know something not working out. And the joy of love and that that 1st time of you know experiencing it so it was all made sense but then it was interesting because these a lot of these trucks a very well known for example you know love is a battlefield which we just heard Pat Benatar her version is phenomenal and we all love it but it was very interesting to slow it down and turn it into a very sort of oak orchestra will quiet backed anthem size track you know and that's what we tried to do with all the tracks so there's even a track on this famously sung by Cher If I Could Turn Back Time which we have turned into a very melancholy ballad to the point where when the song starts most of the people I've played it to don't even know that it's that song until it gets to the chorus which is brilliant you know fantastic really is it just it was your out your your eyes and your ears to these songs in an entirely different way and before we let you go do no clue. So you're following your Twitter feed and your Instagram feed or are you able to leave your phone. At the moment I could open it up well you know what it is because because I tweeted a picture of view and I. Think because yes Christmas earlier on this year I was fortunate to be cast in Beauty and the beast and I had the gas storm rolled myself but because Disney doesn't Lois to plea to use the gas to name eat we had to change it here and then but the Kings to flash flash to be so so gassed on became fashionable and I've put a little photograph on to Twitter tags us and just see if you do look at it I just want you know you want to let me do yeah tag you know. Just to let you know that you're the one in the left and obviously if you can't get in the moment to keep the moment and if you if you don't like my tweet or if you don't comment on it I'll take it you're not impressed with by. Battles with you know the dive bombers from World War 2 just credible well go see it on the big screen that's what I see what you know exactly twiddling your thumbs at the moment looking less has been great to grab you know you're going on that if you chop at the door but it's been building to speak to you to deal with thanks very much my pleasure take a look Evan's brilliant all the best with his album check out if you can't at last it's going to be released on the 22nd of November which is the week Fraidy able to all the information as you make spect on the afternoon show web page just you follow that link. I thank you Liz German my work is use done I could just go no I could just go about no so after you go and keep your that takes into its government as well if I was doing it but a lot of that. It takes tweets coming in with regards to our topical chin for today we're looking for a song which features a color and somewhere along the lines James in Paisley as been in touch he goes for and mellow yellow from Donovan days in Paisley as is my song he's back in black is black by last blood of us and what have I but Jody from Castlemilk says will have a Green Day's Black Parade or again 160 box is their song and artist keep suggestions coming in and we will find out which one we're going to play with about half an hour actually from now let's go for a single of the week shall we at the wonderful the girl who cried wolf they were here in the studio with me just a few weeks ago doing a fabulous live session and Welsh after so this should be the single of the All this week on the afternoon show with this is brilliant it's called. The be. Slowly slowly. Just brilliant and that's the girl who cried wolf for a single of the week all this week on the afternoon show and that is cold again tomorrow and Nicola is going to play it on Friday afternoons for the weekend as well right time to return to Scotland's vibrant workshop scene the l. In the program we sent a reporter out a while and don't to end with a sculpture workshop to try our hand at metalwork to celebrate the inaugural Scotland's workshops week which is happening next week so at let's just check in can we communicate with that hello and. How. We get on Speed Racer been well over an hour no since we let you loose with well tell us tell us what you were doing and what your little project was. Well I've been at the Edinburgh sculpture workshop and let me tell you I've never been so hot in all my life I've got sweat run into my back. Apparently they used to play the blacksmiths with beer and I can see why because I'm definitely going to be having a pint after this. That's just normal afternoon should behavior I think you'll find well yeah that's usual for me and so you were there and what a sculpture workshop you have been you can find out the blowtorch at the mosque or on your protective gear is all there you've got the tire on and so what you've been me can I feel making a scammer and there is no blowtorch is involved and it was in fact an angle grinder I'm looking at my make sure Stephen here and angle grinder a plasma cutter. To something welder and I've been using using the all the. Scammer. I thought of it up on our website because I mean I've never seen to describe it we have never seen one or what you see a schematic is then tell us it's like a sort of half a semicircle stuck at the end of a big long Sheppards Crick made of steel and I will how did you find it then I mean I presume because we discussed this the You'd never turn your hand to anything like this before we saw you. Well I mean I cannot I'm going to thing to base on but so far all complete proof. I'm comparing it I'm comparing it to one Stephen made earlier and I mean mine isn't as as neat certainly but it mean it's a functional tool and I think it looks like it might work and what it's used for is to skim the slag off the top of like molten metal So if you can imagine if you're making stock in your skimming the scum off the top is this very similar sort of tool and I've made one so goodness knows of any good but it's there in front of me and I feel very very pleased with myself. And well I think there's only one way we can find out if it's any good or not because you mentioned you have Stephen there has been by your side throughout and he's on hand with you right know yes I'm here with Stephen Moore he's a technician here and he has been holding my hand through the process even what you think of my star people yeah it looks absolutely excellent I look forward to using the scheme on our next Braun's pour you're genuinely going to use it on the way to trade if it works or not or have to be here. Just disintegrate this is a hits the hot metal and busy when you've been working and risk shops since March I mean what's what do your job involve some workshop technician here and within the sculpture workshop with a metal shop with chop stone carving areas phone tree ceramics plaster so I sort of what Willow technicians and they are is that come here to do inductions in the workshop show people how to use the tools and help them work through their projects so he used teaching completely novices like me or is a artist so he generally it's a completely broad charge from your work with primary school children all the through to professional artists and ever in between so. Just those kind of really open friendly attitude here and I sort of can do attitude was very much about people learning how to do it themselves rather than you paying someone to make it for you Well see I'm thinking that I want to new fence from a new gate and a fence for my front garden to think I'm up to those kind of challenges. It should be fine is a lot of repetition and make it so really good each post so that maybe the 1st post isn't so good but you get you get good by the exactly a couple of those and you'll be fine whatever you say you're teaching kids that come in here exceptionally this is quite like a foreign environment to a lot of people what
