Radio Shack field we're going to hear a little bit about Ramadan very shortly and an event which is happening a little bit later on today Sheffield a mosque in Sheffield opening its doors to people during the period of Ramadan before. The. Street. And that taking a little piece of my politics b.b.c. Radio Sheffield for a sudden morning saw a mosque in Sheffield is opening its doors the say evening and inviting people of all sites to join them as they break that fast it's not the 1st time the Medina mosque on Woolsey has held an interfaith if tall the male iton by Muslims off to sunset during Ramadan but this year it's taken on a special significance as he'd Salim from the Medina mosque has been explaining. It's been happening for a number of years and this year I think there's more need for they especially with the terror attacks in mind just a London and you know there's been 3 attacks recently so I think it was nice to have this interfaith get all the communities together and all these attacks should not divide us but to you should you know it's going to unite a cent we are united and we love to condemn this thing and you know hopefully they'll be a lot of other things happening on this day what sort of reaction they had in previous years you had many people coming along from different Absolutely we've always had these things and we've heard from the Jewish community from the Buddhists from the Catholic the medal Methodists Anglican most of the churches in the cathedral the world with attended these events and not only that but we also target the Buddhists and Hindus and the sea communities so actually happens at the start the 1st thing is they come in we have a little introduction of networking and get to know each other and then we'll have a tour of the mosque and the that is law people that come to the mosque and I've not seen the beautiful moment in the mosque and then we'll give them a tour and then we'll talk about the similarities between the Abrahamic faiths because our people door even know that we how much we love Jesus and Mary and then we talk about the puter for cation we talk about the holy books the sacred books who are God sent down the Torah which is Old Testament and the New Testament Bible and Psalms of David and the people surprised when they sat for to them off I mean the kind of questions we get asked I mean he says look you can ask whatever you want it doesn't matter because you love ignorant people and there is a lot of you know questions below the belt but we don't mind because that's how we will change things and this cohesion in Gage meant and it's educational because not only that they will come and see the beautiful mosque and the features in the design in the patterns in the. Chandelier is in the dorms but the real take something back this is a lot of information review of a most well he'd say lame He's from the Medina mosque. An idea so I got a good wake but a bit of. Interest got most of it nursing a sick guinea pig that if you met me telling you that we got picky it was Easter weekend so had been very long one of them is cost sprained leg and he strained kind of fit sorry for himself this last wakes up had a week of feeding the guinea pig syringing him in Madison and generally giving him lots of love and affection he seems to put up a bit after the last Dyess I'm off to China puts the pad the children for the worst toll. Oh my goodness he's taken over our lives seem to spend every waking moment with his little piggy but you know what they say is probably worth it for children really respect me that they could in a few moments time will play another song before we hear from Reverend Gary Wilson he was my guest today sharing a little bit about his personal journey and how he ended up becoming living. Rather than working for. Change. In. At the studio. In my life so you meet the bacon now that my guests today is the vicar of old. Church made up of around 600 people about 400 of whom turn up to services on. Sunday they wish it in a wide variety of styles from traditional to informal to more contemporary or Reverend Gary Wilton lives in the parish and used to worship it all saints before he became that they could that he's been sharing his journey the faith we didn't attend church except for funerals and baptisms and weddings we liked weddings and I think I was brought up to think that people who went to church were a bit odd or a bit different and the moment came when I was 17 when I began to think about church for myself for the 1st time what form did the flu thinking take we were already some started to think well there's more to it than perhaps I thought this is something I might be interested in following I think when you're 17 you are working out who you are what life is all about where you're going to be and what you're going to do and it was a time when many of my friends were thinking similar questions and a number of my friends became Christians and they challenge to me and asked me questions and I began a journey of thinking through well what is this life all about do you think that stage that you might one day be a vicar I think there came a point when I became a Christian when I experience God's love for myself that I began to wonder about point me once I cooled to actually share this good news with other people and the calling people describe the calling in many many different ways sometimes it seems to come from within other times other people almost telling you that this is what you should be doing what was it for you I think initially it was very much within when I was 17 but when you're 17 you can ignore it and carried on ignoring it for quite some years and then when I went to university friends were beginning to encourage me to think about it but there came a day when I was working. A large department store where I worked on a regular basis during the summer holidays and they wanted me to join their management training scheme and the h.r. Manager came to invite me to go and sign all the papers and that point I found myself saying I'm really sorry I can't sign these papers I need to go into the church so at that point that's when I began to articulate it most clearly quite a difference in Korea apart from that life had taken another 10 we could be talking of in a very different conversation now couldn't way that I could have been were working for some Michael rather than God. That point that would have been a very interesting and exciting day I think my path with God has been very exciting and stimulating tell me a little bit about some of the things you've done before coming to you how do you really interesting career if you like it in your ministerial. Well I served as a curate like you do at the beginning after all the nation and then I was a vicar of a church in Bath and that church grew and that was very exciting and from there we came to Sheffield where I worked in Church Army scholars just off the West Street where I was training lay ministers of the Church of England to share their faith and to serve their local communities so from birth to Sheffield for the 1st time. We were living in Sheffield then I got another job in New York where I was a theologian working join the university and there we made a very big leap over to Belgium where I was a church diplomats I was the Archbishop of Canterbury's representative to the e.u. So we had a very interesting 5 and a bit yes in Belgium before we came back to Sheffield to our home church and quite an unusual journey and there's any relatively recently I even realized that I was in a country braids Representatives the what kind of things were you involved. It I'm from a day to day basis I would be talking with policymakers and politicians the e.u. Actually has a very tiny number of people working in Brussels despite what people might say fewer people work for the e.u. In Brussels them work full the city council I don't know the number who were Sheffield City Council but it when I was in Brussels it was always less than the number who were fully city council and they are working on policies to shape what they do and in particular I worked in the area of freedom of religion and the how diplomats around the world might be helping people with to be free to believe or not to believe in all different parts of the world looking back now is here now I think a large church in Sheffield a big congregation that come along to All Saints in acausal What is it about your faith you think that stood you in the to his stead along the way what's really what's really helped us find your faith you can say Well I think in the difficult times you know that God is there and that God is never going to let go of a few and that's been a consistent theme of my whole journey that God has never let go of me on the good days and on the bad days but there are many days when you just know that God has given you life and wants you to be alive and wants you to share that life with other people and if we are made to be spiritual beings then I want to be spiritually alive as well as intellectually and emotionally and physically in a Life Ok I thank you very much for talking to us on b.b.c. Radio Sheffield a lot more to talk about I'm sure but we're out of time thank you very much to Dr and Garry Wilton is that they can all cite Ackles on my guest for me. a story on the front page of The Sunday Times Tories tell May you have 10 days the observer revealed the terrible fire warnings that ministers ignored also pictures of a floral tributes outside a church near Ground full tower Sunday Mirror the good picture of Prince William and the headline prince of compassion as he visits people in the tower area made on Sunday May I've let down the fire family's beleaguered M.P.'s mere culpa after disastrous response to tabloid tragedy as she faces cabin
