Sheffield. B.b.c. Radio Sheffield go thank you very much Lisa for that where the rope day and was celebrating lighthouses on the show today it is nothing to do with the fact that the weather is all for and it's to do with the fact that it was like towns day yesterday yesterday or a little bit late to the policy and we always about one look as you can get here in South Yorkshire and North Darbyshire but we have found a local links to all sorts of lighthouses including one in Sheffield I kid to note you must stay with me and you'll find out exactly where that is they came ashes b.b.c. Radio Shack. And bearing all is Charlotte all got from Sheffield amongst other things many of things are going to be finding out about Charlotte's. Finding out how she overcame depression after living with it for $23.00. Seems only appropriate to play this song doesn't it it's the Lighthouse Family and. Want to. Live to hear from me today. Now to the sea. It's pitch black you're not seeing and the only sound you can hear is the crashing waves because you feel a little bit emotional imagine the relief you might feel from seeing a line in the distance a light telling you that you know from that. That's been the job of lighthouses throughout history and to mark that special miss they even get that oen day lighthouse day which falls on the 6 Now we always say late to the party a couple of days that the party. August the 7th I'm just being told in my my ear away from my script. But as luck as we all here in South Sheffield South Yorkshire and north we couldn't resist the challenge of finding a local links to like houses and believe it or not we have found one in Sheffield you'll have to stay ching for that but I also want your lighthouse stories if you've ever visited any Have you ever seen one abroad or anything like that. Going down the metaphorical route who would you say is the link house in your life the Paris in this pop spin that the dark times or maybe it's a place a place that you visit when you feel a little bit live a little bit down in the dumps What do you like towns place we'd love to hear from here so do 14279 double 6 double 9. I know you can text is 81 the 3 double 3 starting your message with the word Sheffield Now Sean is from Sheffield but grew up in Plymouth where she could see a lighthouse from have bedroom window and she joins me right now shown and thank you for coming into the studio so we're obviously you know we're talking about light houses and this is a very So this special thing in your life isn't it and some people might think what a White House how could it be you know sort of special but you know describe. To me the one that you saw growing up yes there the one that I saw growing up was called Smeaton's tower and it's just on the coast of Plymouth just on the land it's not in operation anymore but it's just this iconic picture that is found everywhere across Plymouth and even when you see it on the t.v. You just get memories of home and so it's this 70 feet tall structure that stands at looking out across the Sound and is red and white stripes like the barbershop it's absolutely love it exactly what you want to see isn't it yeah I mean I always think you know. I was talking to our producer about this earlier is one of you mentioned lighthouses I go back to my childhood in the t.v. Show going around the twist remember that it was a it was a it was quite some time and probably a bit too old for Charlotte but yes it does exactly the iconic sort of vision that you want for it and there's a reason why it's called means terrorism and not sexually related back to you to hear yes there it was actually designed by a guy called John Smeaton it was the 3rd Light House apparently built for that is stone rocks which is of quite dangerous part just southwest of Plymouth and one had I think been destroyed in a storm one was bent down by fire and so John Smeaton a Yorkshire man was brought in to design the that lighthouse to be on those rocks So yes from your designed this down for the southwest coast that only some Yorkshire connection there somewhere isn't that have you ever been inside this lighthouse obviously growing up in a sort of big. No I couldn't because I mean the times it's now I'm more of a museum that you can go up there are 93 steps up to the. Yes it's quite a climb which we did of the child and was seemed a lot higher I don't imagine. Still very tall but yes we did used to climb up off and and have a look in the view from the top is just gorgeous but what you see inside as well is just so eye opening as to how the lighthouse keeper would have lived Absolutely that is the old floor to the isn't it because I didn't realize until some doing some research obviously only in those days how well the light houses are when they go back to the Egyptian times you know that it was them that invented it in the 1st place so again how long was the one sitting the how long was that one been there so it was out at sea from 759-2877 cry and then apparently the rocks underneath it became quite unstable so they decided that they needed another lighthouse they built another one next to it and they dismantled this one but to pay homage to John Smeaton they moved the top $2.00 thirds of it onto the Plymouth coastline so it's bad now as this memorial to John Smeaton and now this part of just the Plymouth coastline and something that anyone from Plymouth would record this is something that is real when you see like you say when you see it on the t.v. Or you see them pictures or whatever does it bring back it brings lots of smiles and and zones and all kinds of things from a child who has all of the senses the sounds of the. And yes the smell of the sea and everything and I believe we can get market in it now because yeah you can actually get married up at the top in the Lambton very it would be a very small occasion and I had a look at it and you can only have 9 people and that's including the registrar and the witness and things like that so it would be a very intimate gathering but the view from the top would be I think probably what do you know is it something that you would consider considering you know something you grew up with I think I have to make a family I mean your problem is that I was trying to get married. You know obviously have to do if you try. Maybe. That's the way around it and that's the way around it so was he you know when you saw this lighthouse was it something that was sort of comforting to you you know as you saw this for me but I mean how old were you when he was looking at this lighthouse from your bedroom window probably from when I was about 10 I was in that dream until I was 18 and you know that city right so you sort of really important is a lot how did you find it quite comforting and when these were secure Yeah and just this something that just reminds you of the sea I. Just love the seaside and everything about it and the lighthouse is just such a big part of it so you have to look out and to see and and to go home now and to visit my parents and see the lighthouse which does bring back so many memories and and just does make you think about what it means to be by the sea that sense that you get and the idea of just just being free but also feeling really safe and secure as well and I think that's something that White House is really bringing that idea of the light in the dark Yes And for me that's partly wrapped around my faith and for me that houses are linked to that as well and I did actually God is in is the light in the dark place but but yeah just. A matter of what you what connotation to wrap around it for many people is such a secure and comforting thing surely you mean the garbage. Nation of that that was absolutely lovely I would show it from regionally from Plymouth and we see grow with the lighthouse from her bedroom window and that is what we're talking about today it's about lighthouses if you have a visit today and if you could the same kind of a vision is what Charlotte has here if you've got any memories you know brings it back for you or maybe you found your lighthouse moment we would love to hear from Michelle and we thank you so much for joining us. Do you get in touch plays love to hear from you this afternoon of 14276 temple. Are. You. I choose the par. With. Me. Oh. You say. Oh it's sounding. A. Broke. It. Just give me a reason penguin a was. Well there's a festival there something like that it should sit down with rain but you know what Thursday it's going to be fine really there's a lot of ads that you go into on the Thursday where you can enjoy the nice weather we're talking about unlike houses he had to say in the shack because yesterday was national light towns day I wanted to celebrate it wanting to hear your lighthouse stories that can be anything we can be looking for you stories of lighthouses that you visited or seen or maybe you've had a lighthouse my way you've gone someone you've just oh I feel so much better being here or you maybe you have a person like your very own life house we'd love to hear from me and Kevin in Chapeltown joins me now I have to name Kevin. I'm very well thank you my lovely now you're recommending a lighthouse to go and see on change you know St Mary's like Ok with me being in Newcastle beautiful Now I need to confess I've never actually been to Italy but I keep meaning to go there every time a day is one of those things where it's not really it took me right Amanda to stay in the arcades or something different so wanted why do you recommend this lighthouse a much I mean say it's. Just a lovely area it's plain to see there's a gold course on it. It's called a Spanish you do it you needn't arcade and generally it's just a lovely area just a beautiful nice tranquil place is that what it is do you find yourselves out of going there Kevin Now if you get a 7 Ill bet with something or maybe a little bit stressed in life is that so my way you would had. Definitely yeah if you had that many lighthouse moments yourself so there's. No specifically. Light bulb moment now I'm just a good place. Tell you what Kevin next time you go we make His I've got a little baby and I'm in need of a lighthouse moment I can assure you or you're going to come with you while you are very very kind my friend Reisa stay on the fire I would say if he tells you who get this date lined up for I Kevin thank you very much.
