None of the vote tonight was intended to stop or delay bricks it was about a basic question which is the terms of projects it have to be agreed should they be a great simply by the prime minister or should Parliament have a say and that's a really important issue legislation can be got through in time we're used to doing legislation quickly a national memorial service takes place at St Paul's Cathedral later for victims of the Grenfell tower fire 6 months on from the tragedy Prince Charles and Ceres mayor expected to attend the events along with survivors Here's our correspondent joined on and it wasn't the authorities at Simple's Cathedral the suggested this venue. From the residents they wanted this service to be on the same sort of level as the state funerals and the grand services of remembrance that have taken place before at the cathedral it will be a largely Christian service but significant elements of it will reflect the fact that many of the victims of the 5 were Muslims a 3 year old girl has become the 4th child to die after a house fire Insall foot clear Pearson's 2 sisters Demi and Lacey and brother Brandon were also killed a man and a woman have been charged with murder. It's emerged thousands of offenders serving community sentences are being supervised by probation staff over the telephone a report by the chief inspector of probation also reveals that some junior officers can have as many as 200 cases at one time the Ministry of Justice says telephone supervision only applies to some low risk offenders. Research suggests more than a 5th of managers in the k. Would be less likely to employ a disabled person the charity Leonard Cheshire commissioned a study which found 60 percent of bosses will be worried about the costs of workplace adjustments his chief executive Neil has locked up I think it's 2017 it is unacceptable for disabled people to be excluded. From the work force economically it is totally unnecessary and given the challenges of the u.k. Economy or for me before the problems can be overcome the problem for Work and Pensions says it's committed to getting warm 1000000 more disabled people in work by 2027 at around 5000000 drivers believe they've got behind the wheel over the drink drive limit at least once in the last year the research was carried out by the r.a.c. Time to get support now when it has been Manchester City made a record breaking 15 Premier League wins in a row is the league leaders be portable the table swarms in for nearly Liberty Stadium 2 from David Silver along with goals from Kevin de Bruyne or and Sergio Aguero maintain barrel of a point lead at the top of the table Romelu Lukaku scored his 1st Premier League goal for nearly a month as Manchester United be born with one nil Tottenham move back into the top 4 Thanks for that soon away at home to Brighton that's as Liverpool and Arsenal play that goal is draws with West Brom a West Ham Everton won one at Newcastle while Leicester were 41 is a sad Hampson and Celtic maintained their 5 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 31 win at home to house and you can find all of last night's results on the b.b.c. Finally to life which costs the euro leeks podcast go he does not score many goals around the world but particularly in Italy managers have been fired for far less Mr meanest and finishing 8 points behind possible is joined by European football journalists with experts opinion debates and stories in play it seems from across the continent it is a huge loss to them but it is Barcelona morning there was snow in the pools and it was like whoa this is the same size. Holocaust and. On am and f.m. Around the u.k. On digital and online I'm Roger Sharpe and. It's a minor setback a government source told the b.b.c. Even Labour's most passionate supporters were added to the yes lobby to join the rebel Tory 11 and call for a parliamentary vote on the final deal whenever it's agree but I'm sure in the blue benches knows no bounds according to our superior m.p. Tonight the Tory rebels put a spring in labor step giving them a taste of winning guarantees. The party we can the press undermined the pm and the value of her impact in Brussels they should be diesel acted and never allowed to stand as a Tory m.p. Ever again. Mrs May's government suffered a defeat in a key vote on its Bracks bill after a rebellion by Tory M.P.'s The issue at stake was whether parliament would have a vote on the final breaks the old struck with Brussels this comes on the eve of the e.u. Summit in which Mrs May and other leaders will of course discuss bricks and our political correspondent and I asked her how much of a shock the vote came as a as to the government well it was the 1st defeat the maze had on government business I mean there is no getting away from the fact the government is as aware as anybody else that the parliamentary of breath magick is so tight since the general election because of course treason May doesn't have a majority say we've been saying for for months now about how every vote counts and I think this was the real imposed human all of that so I think there was a real awareness say for the course of the last 24 to 48 hours that this was going to be incredibly tight I think when the vote was actually taking place you got the sense that the so-called rebels and labor the opposition parties thought they didn't quite have the numbers to defeat the government and then that result came out and as you say they were just 4 votes in it so it was incredibly tight and also worth bearing in mind that there were just 11 Conservative M.P.'s who rebelled against the government now of course 11 rebels in any party is not an insignificant number especially when that means they've effectively engineered a government defeat but it's 11 out of the party so I think while yes this is a blow for Theresa May Yes this is a setback for health or she is. Keeping the broad context in mind so what does it actually do does it actually bring the session making power over bricks back to the Commons Well what this does officially on paper is means that before ministers can go and agree a brick sit agreement in Brussels the has to be a vote in the House of Commons on it now it's also worth saying that this was an amendment a change to the e.u. Withdrawal bill which is one of the 1st big complicated bits of legislation that's going through Parliament the point that Bill is to put into u.k. Law ready for the date of departure but it's become a kind of encapsulating thing about the process of Brecht's it and who's got the power over it so that's why this amendment was put forward to this bill however the still lots of other stages that's going to get through before anything is finalized so what has been agreed and voted on is the principle that parliament will get a legal promise of a vote before breaks it is signed off in Brussels by ministers the details of how and when that exactly will happen that's yet to be worked out the government line before the vote or so this would take away their power to negotiate a smooth. Well they're describing this now as a minor setback insistent that it won't frustrate the Bracks it process they say they have to go away and have a look now when this bill comes back to the next stage of how exactly they deal with it but also also worth saying that Dominic Grieve the former attorney general he was the the Tory rebel if you like the man that wrote this amendment he's also said that he will happily talk to the government about finding a form of words that works for everybody because remember the Tory rebels in this case but on the whole people that have supported remaining in the queue what they don't want to do is to end up with a situation whereby they voted against an agreement and said the government walks away with no deal that is not there. Intention and say therefore they are happy to work with the government to make this work if you like but the government saying it's going to have to take stock and see now what it does with this defeat this result this evening. Or any kind of this for the chop and terms of things that the government would really like for example firm date for withdrawal Yeah well that was the was the next battle brewing if you like the fact that treason they had announced that they were going to write into the bill the fact that the u.k. Would be leaving the European Union on the 29th of March 29 teen and then of course there would be a transition period to follow that now that is also good some of these conservative rebels and I think what tonight is shown is that if they're prepared to stick the head of the above the parapet of age against that party was taken early now all with the support of labor and some other opposition parties they can defeat the government so whether or not that will shift the government's thinking on all the matters relating to the Bracks it process well that remains to be seen because to resume a must of course weigh up the need to assess health or see if this process with the risk of any further defeats but I think it's safe to say that it's shown it can be done it's highlighted the difficulty the trees amazin without a majority in the House of Commons which is while this chat about the pressure she's under from the M.P.'s Why that's quite real that's exactly what we've seen here today but as I say it is worth bearing in mind that in the grand scheme this was a fairly narrow defeat just 4 votes in it so I think what you can take from this more than anything is that there are going to be plenty of very hard fought battles over the Bracks that process still to come. Exercise. Well in the state of Alabama Doug Jones Alabama's new senator elect has spoken of a new momentum in American politics after he clinched his surprise victory in last night's how Obama Senate race at his 1st news conference Mr Jones said the contests tighten the competition between Republicans and Democrats both at state and national level he said the minority vote was vital to the result we knew what we were we were doing we knew the importance of minority votes and we reached out so and I think they responded but I also believe this I think we had a lot of support from the leadership in the in the African-American community though those leaders knew me I've been around for a while Mr Jones also said he thought his campaign a giving people a reason to feel more positive the one thing that I think is going to happen for sure is that this campaign has given a lot of people a reason to believe they have a reason to hope that they know that that you know even though things might be a long shot it's possible they all know too that you can create a lot of momentum you can create things in a positive way if you run the right campaign even if that campaign might not have succeeded in there was a time last night that I was convinced we wouldn't but I was prepared to talk about the fact you know that that this was not the end it was the beginning. Meanwhile President Trump distanced himself from Judge Roy a move after the Republicans suffered a historic defeat for the party Mr Trump reminding his supporters that he initially supported Luther Strange in the party's primary election but then he went on of course to offer his full support to Mr Moore in the run up to the election despite allegations that he went out with a underage women and and sexually harassed one of them at least let's speak to George Holly who is an assistant professor of political science at the University of Alabama Hello Professor Holly. Hello thank you for having me thank you for coming to talk to us. First of all we've we've already said that Doug Jones expresses thanks to minorities in particular I think to the African-American vote was that what made the difference for him or was it just that hello Trey actually lost you there yeah sorry let me let me repeat that question yes we had Doug Jones say that he was very grateful to the minority vote in other words the African-American the Latino and so on but was it just a racial vote for him or were there more factors at work than than just the fact that a lot more African Americans turned out in this race. Well it's obviously very important but I think the bigger issue in the most recent races here in Alabama was that Roy Moore was a uniquely bad candidate he was controversial even before the allegations of sexual misconduct were known so in the absence of that I think even very high African-American turnout would probably not have made a difference though it would have been potentially closer. So. How do you lose or strange been running I think can you can you rerun this far so obviously you know there may be people in the Republican Party are doing just that well we can't say for sure what happened but I'm quite confident that if either the loser strange or Mo Brooks had been the Republican nominee it would have been a fairly easy victory for the g.o.p. I don't think that this fundamentally shifts the state of Alabama from into a blue or purple state it is still a state in which the Republicans have a sizable advantage in terms of party identification and in vote choice this was just an anomalous year I believe so do you think you're seeing too much jubilation I think would be too strong a word among Democrats both inside and outside the state. I think so this isn't to say that I don't think that the Democratic Party will have a very good year in the upcoming midterm elections I suspect that they will but whether or not Alabama itself is signaling that it's going to be a blue wave coming out and I wouldn't go that far I think that there were just a large number of stick cassock elements in this particular election that are not analogous to what will be going on in the rest of the country and and there's no way that the simple opposition to the Republican policies and to President Trump can google scoreless and together in the future as other. Well it's certainly possible to. And I do think that the Democratic Party will do quite well but Alabama is one is one state that is quite likely to remain a predominantly publican state for the time for the forseeable future I think the best analogy we can make to this victory by Mr Jones would be Scott Brown's victory in Massachusetts a number of years ago where a Republican won a surprise victory in a blue state only to be defeated not long after when huge stood for election again just a just a stray into the realm of national politics for a minute when that happened then Scott Brown won that seat the then Democratic leader of the Senate Harry Reid actually delayed an important vote until Scott Brian had been seated. A possibility here I mean has any chance that Dr Jones is going to get to the Senate before the final votes on the upcoming tax bill. It's possible but I consider it very unlikely b.v. Republicans in the House and Senate do not have a single piece of major legislation that they can claim that they have passed this year and so I think they consider it absolutely vital that they get something on the books before the year is over so I do not suspect that they will extend that same courtesy to Mr Jones by delaying the vote. And if anybody's interested what will happen to Roy Moore not I mean he's yet to concede defeat as a date. Well Morris definitely read a character but I suspect his days as a statewide politician are hard to finish if Lee over he's simply too old I would say to to try to run for statewide office again at this point and particularly now that you know he's a demonstrated loser in this most recent statewide election there's no reason to think that he would have more luck in the future so I suspect that he won't go away as a public figure in the state but I don't think that he will ever hold office again you know and and just on a point of fact I mean last night of course he said it's not over and he was taking advice on whether to call for every kind as would he be any closer to a recount what would be the factors that would get him into that with. Just have 100 percent for his opponent Well I don't know what legal options he has at this point I consider it very unlikely that a recount will be ordered though I am insufficiently familiar with the election law in that regard to say definitively what's going to happen. Well thank you very much indeed Vesa charge Hallie. Well if you. Let's take our time. To look Google Maps. As indeed was done. By a very eagle eyed Star Wars fan the Millennium Falcon was spotted earlier this year by a fan sashing Google Earth and. James Burns writes the website jet I News and he got the word from this fan and immediately went hunting on him self and solos famed Space Ship in plain sight on Google Maps shielded on all sides by 7 shipping containers and just yards away from the golf course Sunningdale in sorry and nicely positioned for the m 3 appears that it was left there after filming for the latest Star Wars movie now showing actually rapped Well I spoke to James Burns bit earlier and I asked him . How it was that he revealed the location of the Millennium Falcon. It was earlier in the summer and it came in via a tip and then we put it on official media along with a message something fun don't Google Maps type in there so you man and see what you can find and there was hiding in plain find was the Millennium Falcon and this is actually Utah what you told people to look for was long cross Studios which is a little studios in the stockbroker
