Get through the hours because an awful lot of people around Britain in various pockets of the country are are having problems tonight you know we've heard some of the roads that are being closed the working as hard as they can on the m $62.00 they've cut through the central reservation one section so they can try and turn the lorries around and get them back up towards her does feel there because the the section over the scum and reservoir there is so windy that it they're worried that it will flip vehicles over and that's what they don't want because they want more vehicles to have to clear there's been problems up in Northumberland the main problems on the m 5 the m 4 we've heard from people already today I'm just reading through them the myriad of notes that I have 300 vehicles stranded near camp than we heard when just the Cardiff is a problem area as well the 4 I think it was which 3 and phone in Newport people have been stuck there since half past 1 yesterday afternoon really really difficult and you know it's a real problem and if you you know you have any any insight on what's happening how things are going for you whether things are improving give us a shout 108-085-9096 extension 935 see is with me for the tech phone and we might have to jump in during the middle of this. And just go back to the the snow news. Because things you know as the as they develop but I want to text here from Trish in Swanzy and she got a little earlier to say my and you're going to get this in the 2nd word my i Photo app on my 2050 MacPro won't let me close it it's stuck in Please wait while i Photo imports and it's not I tried to force quit I've run the battery down etc But it charges back up and tells me it's still importing Is there a definitive quit everything stop messing around no arguments just end shortcut. Well yes if you do not curious it will shut it down completely if we're talking about magic but. Yes I mean that's the way to shut it down is did I understand the question correctly Well I think the problem is the that was soon as he started up again load it up again it starts trying to import photographs again and it's stuck in a loop now I've had this problem and I can't actually remember what I did to sort it out but it's a recurring problem that the the app tries to drag in photographs maybe from the cloud maybe from wherever Yeah and it won't stop the process what I was suggesting was that if it is only photo that using Well things have moved on and there's a new Photos app that should have come to you through the through the update process to free updates. And possibly worth trying to do that because now it might sort things out I guess and I guess it also depends on what what version of the operating system you're running as to as to whether you've got that or not but yes but even then the i Photo still shouldn't be doing that and one well if it was a current tap one possibility would be to our installed and download it again whether or not you'll be able to do that now or not I'm not frankly completely sure whether that would work now but you could you could reinstated say from a backup for example but yeah I mean there are plenty of other options to use including stock applications from Apple themselves so the Photos app would be a good place to start failing that as I delete it if you can reinstall it do so and . Try and let it finish up process I mean unless it is to be used looping around and just starting over and over again could just be that it's a very long process because it's trying to import a lot of photographs so you could just try to learn what to do that if you want one possible pick up might be. You run the you know space. Good idea yes good point. To show that sort of you out just a few you might fancy I want to cross over because Robert Sowle leaves his correspondent Rob Hall is stuck in traffic on the ac 3 in Wiltshire very good morning to you Robert tell us where you are and what's happening yes morning Nick I've been I've been in more pleasant places a place in the middle of the night we've been heading for Devon since the middle of the afternoon but for our 6 hours we were stuck in a village called kickplate in Wiltshire which is in a sort of state in the hills in that part of the world. The problem is the Hills is those hills really. Lying ice and snow compacted snow on the road the plows are doing their best part of a large number of age the reason on the a 3 o 3 not just where I but. There's a big rescue operation to get people 100 or so vehicles stuck down a hill many a fair way on from where we are and it's still snowing mixture of snow and what looks perhaps like the freezing rain that was talked about. With stationary again we managed to get out of trick played finally the plows turned up and they managed to get the Halo but now we've been about 2 miles and we're stuck again. Spending the time was. Flying back. Singing songs. I mean there's been a certain amount of work for the early outlets tomorrow morning so. There's been a little bit of that and to be only We've got a camera with us so we've been grabbing some pictures of the queues and just chatting to people in it is very frustrating I think a lot of car drivers get frustrated because because the lorries are attempting to get up hills really can't get up and then they end up slewed across the road or on the side of the road which means everybody is forced over to the other side we talked to one man who is desperately trying he's been travelling from Slavin to try and mend the heating in an old people's home in a village called Mir which we haven't got to yet. Where there were 9 extremely old frail people who hadn't heard anything since I think softer noon and he was the engineer trying to get to them but the lorries were effectively blocking these routes and he was very angry that he couldn't get through. This has been very little evidence of any emergency response at all we've seen one police car with 2 policemen in it since we got here there was a minor accident of one point but the police weren't present at that and we're not we're just not seeing the trolls now they're obviously very stretched but nobody's really checking on things and what's happening is that people in check play but we've just come from there was a fantastic article called Mark Brown through it like a name check from Waitrose driving a truck and the he was stuck he said well I get bored but I don't do anything so he made himself into sort of traffic marshal and he was up at the front of the queue helping people get all back on the move again to get up a hill and there was a lot of that lady in a garroting she played. You know keeping people supplied with fuel shoes make decent coffee for them if that hadn't been open at this time and I think people would have been pretty desperate so there is a certain amount of rallying round but the problem is we're all pretty helpless because in the end when everything grinds to alt there's absolutely nothing we can do Robert look after yourself trying to stay warm very well and some of those pictures and because we really need to look after some raw material out on the a 33 in Wilcher 313 the time back to the tech found in lots of people getting in touch with us on on text. You've got this one for you which Smart Phone This is from Ali who asks which smartphone would you recommend me to buy pretty major cheap and good quality. All sorts of problems with with that. Because it's about the teenager would also accept parenting problem so teenagers will often want i Phones and so forth and if you were to go that route then it would be one of the most basic one is an i.c. Which actually is a very nice small phone but still not cheap we're talking about a 30300 quid ish fading that you you can get I mean depends how cheap you want to go you can go into a supermarket and buy a budget Android phone which is the operating system that Norm Apple smart phones tend to use and it will do the job Sue thing is. One of the problems with some teenage this is that they tend to just leave them around and you know even on buses and things like that I mean so or you become a target for you know bullying and theft so often you know you can get. There's entry level Nakia ones which have been relaunched as Android phones now you could go for one of those if you want to the branded one or you could go for one of the one so Vodafone have their own branded phones as well which are quite good value for money they're quite quite basic but I think my guess is we're trying to look for something that's maybe less than 50 pounds. Or more than $75.00 because once it goes above that it starts to hurt when you lose it more and. You know you can as I say you know if you turn up with a very expensive phone at school you know unfortunately some some places you tend to get it taken off you so that's something to watch for so that would be my suggestion actually is to to even to go into a supermarket in the put some of the the deal surveyed above there there are also you know online deals available but I would say you can get a perfectly functional smartphones or you don't expect a super duper screen quality and you know excellent cameras and lots of expandability and so forth you can get that for sort of 50 pounds or a bit that's and that's probably where I would I would aim if that were if my concern was my teenager losing it I mean it's very difficult these days with with phones you've got phones that can cost up to a 1000 pounds yeah. And you get a phone that can get the very very similar that you can get for half of that primes which works on the other operating system the end right operating system Yeah and people say to me you know but there's no point in buying that cheaper phone because it won't last as long because Apple constantly sends updates. For for its operating system but it's Hof the price you know that that's a killer a killer statistic isn't really easy but it's also to do with the I mean there's always a sweet spot in this and I'm budget is part of that calculation but it's not just to do with how long will it use for the work which is your point yeah it's valid but it's also how good is user experience you know because you could curse a fine for every day of your I'm the ship of it watched it does the job it does it in a sort of very slow and painful way and you know certainly if you value your time you don't want to be watching round for every day also if if the hardware is you know you have to look at what version if there was seeming Sanjoy because we're dealing with more affordable phones so if you if you're getting an Android phone you have to look does it come with the latest version of the Android operating system and is it even capable of running and how likely is that brand will that manufacturer to provide you with updates and we talked about that at the beginning and it's not just new features it's security updates as well and the problem is you can buy a phone that would just about run the current operating system today but it doesn't have enough in the processor it doesn't have a national ram memory you can expand the storage to you know put your music collection on it if that's what you want to do because it's not a micro s.d. Slot on it like Apple equipment by the way so. It it's it is a balance where you not only take into account how long will it last and how long before I can update the operating system which is a significant consideration but what is my user experience of that 5 because it is really no point in if you can avoid it if you don't want to I want a phone that you going to hate even if it does the basics and it's something that all the things that we buy you know of all the gadgets that we buy certainly is the thing that we use most frequently I mean some Some reports say that we look at the screen 100 times a day. Yeah so if you're going to use something 100 times a day and by the way I don't recommend that and. You know there's all sorts of damage that does to us in terms of our our focus and our health but if you all going to be using something that frequently it's far more important for many people to put the money into a smart phone that's going to meet their needs fully than it is to say you know better to take the budget from say your laptop which you might use less frequency or your desktop or you know something that is you know the 2nd p.c. In the house or something like that or a tablet you know people often don't use tablets anywhere near as frequently as they pick up their smartphone though it's one of the reasons why tablet sales have tended to stall because you know most people got tablets they continue to use them they don't age as quickly as phones but But what So you know the phone is a very compelling form factor a very compelling size and shape so. I think you know you you have to try it and see how you how you feel about it but also maybe spend a bit more than you think you need to just to give yourself some chance of having it rocking for more than a year you know usefully and the benefit of that long give a-T. Devotee is also that the user experience in the 1st year as well will be better it will be faster more responsive you have to run better software on it and you'll enjoy the screen more you know some screens are really very poor you know they completely washed out towards you can't get bright enough to overcome any sunlight or reflections off the snow as it were that we might get so you know I think mid range is probably better value than cheapest phone and Iceland for most uses really an excellent thank you so much Dave right. Che has been in touch I have an Apple MacBook Pro 13 inch laptop which is built in late 2011 it refuses to power on with my 60 watt power pack so I recently exchanged the power pack which was under warranty but that made no difference so I took map my laptop to an Apple recommended repair shop they found nothing wrong with my laptop they let me an $85.00 watt power adapter and it works Apple o. Say I must use a stronger adapter What do you advise. Right well 1st of all I devise you take the advice of Apple because they're the manufacturer of the kit However in general terms if the voltages are correct and they're on the right pins of the connector and. A higher wattage power supply wouldn't should not overload. A laptop because the way the power supplies work is that they deliver the power that the device seeks to draw Yes So it's actually you know it's it's a bit like having a car that can do 200 miles an hour doesn't mean you have to do 200 miles an hour you can feather the accelerator and do 30 in the thirty's and you know so if if her computer only needs up to 45 watts and it's attached to an 8080 or 85 watt power supply than that should be fine but I'm also mindful of Apple's advice there might be some there might be a good reason why they've said that I'm not aware of. But it's interesting
