But. An Australian law but. Now. It's short and it was a child's eyes to get any one sided spying. By the police John Adams and heaven from the reckless. Coming up to temp past 9. Ipswich which is afraid. Of the heading towards the 1st home defeat of the season pool pirates the reigning Premiership Speedway champions are at Fox all tonight. My latest check of the 13 heats is just 2 to go pool lead 4335 have been 10 points clear in that on the which is of have rallied a little bit but pool are going to take the victory in that one of the few final score when we get that plenty on the way in the final out of the 1st resort social hear from both Serena Williams and Simona Halep they will contest the women's singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday we've got RORY McILROY to come as well ahead of him which starts next week. Is the day night sports social B.B.C. Radio. With great. Featuring a couple of gymnasts then in our final hour and beginning with 20 year old Johnny read Jeannie Moran born in Suffolk is. Right through in the sport in 2013 when he won gold use level on the floor a bronze in the parallel bars and a team silver following year around when the British junior all round title at on the 16 level fast forward a couple of years he's recently want to Silva in the floor at the European games in Belarus is the 1st major competition that the athletes' been able to take part in after a 3 year battle with serious injury and Johnny's been telling Moksha means to bring home a matter it means a lot you know today's actually is for years and one week since my 1st major injury I spent 2 years out of school and this is my 1st major event back so you know to be here in this bedlam high and it's like you know you go back and try still really and then after one knee I was back Fair she was going well then all of a sudden I had another injury inside my foot so some stuff money today some might say it was like well what's going on here you know I was I was thinking Why me what you know what went on because of this. All was patience and hard work and you know just staying and staying focused on what you want to do and what you want to achieve and where does that. Receiving school. I think it's always it's always been in me you know I'm OK It's been very supportive and very. You know there for me from a young age and always pushing me to be the best like me and I think I lost it all from family and friends and especially the medical team out there with my injuries and suffered that so my support team and support network is being you know very great and without them I don't think I've been here today so. We're just a year or so way from the next Olympics and guess you know we've got Europe yeah I mean from the kids having worked my whole life in a James you know I 6 days a week. One my dream riscos you limpid gayness is the big screen you can do in a school and thus that's what they want my whole life for so you know this is one step closer you know it's going to be hard on NASA per lot more working in January and hopefully next year when when Charles comes you know automating it it's great to be holding a medal in your hand and taking them back yet to be homeless and I have right now I feel I feel will accomplish you know I've learned a lot out there I made a few mistakes and of life and I've also dialogue good things to be walking away with something in my hand this is a is a big issue here Johnny Reggie Moran from Lowestoft speaking to Mark shot low the gymnastics standoff that these days that is quite a comeback from him after a 3 year injury Laughs Well done for that medal at the recent European games in Bella Rusa Gianni look consorts the Tokyo Olympics next year while next featured gymnast Cameron Lister has his sights set on the Commonwealth Games that follow in Birmingham in 2022 Cameron who studies at Suffolk New College in Ipswich came into our studios early in the year you may score few minutes with same on the drive time programme we did chat for a lot longer about his recent achievements which include being crowned junior men's champion at the Scottish Championships in Perth last month Cameron turned 18 in March and told me how he got started in gym slide when I was about 2 years old to yeah I went to. I was really hyperactive kids just jumping off beds frames wardrobes cabinets. Our parish call this is bloody dangerous so we need care in a controlled environment so he's got a pair of total class parties. And I've been there ever since OK And did it did it's so out of the issues at home we jump Yeah well I was so knocked out of energy because I was running about dive in a phone pets all sorts just not going to self out as I got blasted for parents I slept rested after I'd been Jim. So when you start out parties for what type of things which you obviously a 2 year old surely can't comment on Baines and things like that will come the yes you stuff really young of her own classroom. Is just you just basically have a plan equipment and they they close you some structure things so you will do your walk in the bay with like they'll hold your hands or just like really basic stuff and that's eventually how you progression way up and when you start school age when you start going like an evening class you learn the basics so you for your car will stand and if you're sporty and get up and then just go hit up an up not to top level really did you always good at it. No I was an hour from. When I 1st started in my group I wasn't the best by any means my coach so I sat now the coach I had when I was younger say of all the boys I've had down there in international competitions you were last on my list I was always last to. Circle right out in the pub a horse can just couldn't and twisted on for can do it but just so work the way boys come and go for years bite or stuck out of rust so why I've got to where I am just now really. Think particularly change nothing in your mindset change you just always focus and just kept going and kept young I loved it of us well that's what I've wanted to do and I've just carried on for my whole life as boys coming on mortality more stronger than me it's just stick away us out of got to I am just now really you never got frustrated with it with all the noise and don't get me wrong of have been frustrated at times just wave it's quite a mental sport as much as it's you've got really physically strong but mentally to get through some days you're It's tough when things aren't going right you're bit sore and you don't know today and their struggle but you do get frustrated but you've got to think about Longo Smith come off games you think I want to be there for Scotland where hard on representing my country showing not forget me. Just tell us about the that the sets of a pipe is valid so obviously you it's a club now you've I mean you're you're a veteran then I have been there yes among the 7 gymnast me yes sleeping there for multiple years in a good place for you absolutely can't say enough about him support me through everything I've done all the way from as I say sort of year recreational teddybear class as a way up to where I am now on the sort the top elite Boys group. Always support me as I said I wasn't. Anywhere near the best they have always kept me in the German class I just progressed by their support and they it allowed me to become why I am now and hopefully I can give something back to you and also how you have been birth 2012 the yeah looked after I think was the Brazilian team Yeah the Brazilian Girls came down the men never qualified for the games so yes the girls came down and I said I wasn't men's in our discipline is still in a paper from Brazil slight or come for a long life the Olympic Games and it was really inspiring to see I'm going to say that's it's priceless time for the knowledge you know that these guys yeah to play as well and they're going to go on to London 22 here so it's yet very used to say in the old voice of it 25 hours and you know just boiled it there's been a few guys old me so if you look at them but on a day to day it's hard to appreciate always what they do when you get these like what they get going to limp into I mean stadium in the gym while shooting or what they're doing now I try to sort of coach and see how the coaches interact with gymnasts and so it's like a different world really enjoys How do you do any other sports or I used to play football rubbish at football couldn't part of the likes of a Scottish to back up a celebration. Near the top of the goal sheet. But not for it wasn't for me like an indoor sport not and hated it for silly What's the I mean in terms of obviously you've tried really hard you've applied to self and you've got to where you have to die if that then any kind of setbacks on the way any injuries yet. When I was young my worst injury was I was showing off like a sort of family gallant a handstand and hit my foot on a coffee table and pretty much for. Coming down for hours on the coffee table so I was quite embarrassed and. I was for the have there's a list there is a letter to my finger in a vault I did the English translation I was really young sort of 11 years old and stubbed my finger and proper fingers. Slip the desk my back Scotch training camp I was in the high bar just pulled off and landed a phenomenal. I don't even slept for a competition I had to pull out of the Guard because I slide slipped disc my back was out about 3 months. So why Scotland then Cameron we could we can sense a bit of an accent but you'd still be when you came in the lift in Suffolk for the 1st yes or Steve I. Said I was born in London my parents both worked in the place and then eventually moved to Ipswich have lived here for 16 years but I represent Scott because my dad and his family are all from Scotland Inverness. That's why opted for that route because it's quite difficult to get into so the boys seldom I just phenomenal. And as I say I wasn't great as a kid so I was never identified as being good enough to go for a squad here so. Yes up to the Scots off but when Sarah grotto really like Scott was out. Relock the boys will train. Fare will quite close not great will close tonight so we'll get on really well when you meet up as a Scotland team then where would you train so believe or not we actually train sometimes in Essex southeastern club where Maxwell Locke try and his coach Scott had He's the Scotland N.P.P. Director National Performance programme then you know time very logs Inverclyde not a sport which is a national sport Scotland's And so that's where we're based. The receiver the guy to is he the ultimate see the role more so we just now he's the guy I was looking for look into his. Double and pick championship I mean to have you country especially Essex because we train there sometimes and part us as a club part of our go up and train just watching the guys incredible for me and I was younger as a gymnast than U.K. And who can pay for Great Britain Scotland he trained in Huntington in Cambridge he was on my impression growing up that's what I really wanted to stop it all because of Sendai and Keynes when Caldwell smells like I am at a loss at Baxter he missed out on to a 12 Olympics for injury and stuff and got it by about for 2014 Commonwealth Games I would talk about the light of Scottish Championships in a moment where you mentioned I think it's when you were 11 you took sick part in the English Championship when you for your 1st kind of taste of a real strong competitive environment. As our young people a light progressive so English Championships would have been Yeah but our level 12 right set your 1st real bit was it was in sport and we're going to nothing. Well is the English it is not a massive sort of Raina but. Since do in sort of Scotch stuff and even if it was just an English or not I'd still be in the British army ships last in Liverpool in their was not now they occur in us they're M. And S. Bank Arena and that's on podiums like it isn't like an Olympic Games so it's a real major issue because not many countries in the world offer their national champ chips on or a massive arena large as I guess a 1000 people for the same as that's pretty much sold out so a real good experience can play on a podium because there's not many people get a chance to do that what with those 1st competitions like you know you could you appear at one of these it daunting or is it so or is yeah don't audience there's something you're always going to competition never expect anything from me like the mentality of not a competition I never expect to come out of anything I just think I'm going to do 6 clean retains you know or whatever will be will be as I. But as regards to preparing for the arena you do you can't help but feel slightly differently if it's a sports all in Redbridge or you know the M. And S. Banker in the you can help you go oh my god so many people here like watching you think it helps the performance though. I mean depends on the crowd because. Ike because of where my competitions are now because there's not many contests more for me in the regime or 68 or so if I've got people the crowd I used to help me some people it's all personal preference some people. But I feel like if I've got a slightly smaller crowd with people I sort of know and there are no support me that really helps me to sort my best work so was about the later Scottish Championships then you did really well yes I went to the Scottish Championships on . Last weekend in February whereabouts were in Perth OK. Yes Perth. Men's under 18 all around competition on the site I. Really happy because I'm going to run gymnasts so I come by as the top junior in Scott until they get to last this is my last as a junior as well so that question real good stead for do an international flight on the year and the Sunday of. Became under 18 or is a joint family under 18 under 6 Danes became floor champion Polish amp in high bar champion got a silver medal on paid R.'s are a statistic the best achievement to date by far yeah not really good I've been scotched up to 3 times but to get medals with combined finals gets under 16 as well because early they are younger Scott not really strong enough with them so it's really good to soften a good performance against all the younger guys come in for what Sure you favor operator C. So you're all around him that's for the era to favor and over and over I mean I really like my Floridian I've just changed it recently so I'm really liking the tunnel today not a minute. Last night the most exhilarating poll horse I quite probably wasn't quite good at was one of my stronger pieces. But I like working the skills and pompous all quite intricate details that are like that and when I start one published or not it looks really. Quite fluent and look lovely when you the floor routines and you think your music know men that have music she's the woman of music OK But yes that men you have 70 seconds to do your best skills and as a judge that she. Further down the line we've talked off I think if you brought up here 2022 Birmingham YOUNG Well games is that the kind of a big YES enduring for that small I. That's my target and has been 4. Or 5 or 6 years now so I really wanted to do everything was meant in Burma and Durban South Africa OK So that was a massive pole because the guys that went this time went Gold Coast Australia such an amazing trip I was a year too young so I can qualify for Unfortunately then of are they going to write next from South Africa I'm going to write less South African Alarcon afford at Birmingham's are OK. Well Guy which I. Saw just taken as a calm welcome to come up I'm just no bigger on a 1st Scotland sport event so he's got that on picture and so I took it and Scott would be just fantastic no matter where it is obvious you've got ARE YOU READY TO YOU got strong for the Iseman Scott have you talked about you to have been from the both of you live here get the sense that it means a lot see to the worth of the Scotland so yeah I think yeah always has always will I think. I've been going so I go twice a year on holiday just to Inverness just see my grandparents and I come down a fair few times a year so you know I've got a lot of contact there and so as I'm doing I thought life full invest and really. Know what I get what it means to be Scottish if you like how you combine it all with study into should save your seat base itself and you call it yes of 4 years well yeah yeah absolutely they've been really good so I joined the college 2 years ago so now my 2nd year at a level for a sport course Cheers phenomenal always flex would add lines or whatever extra help saps it no bother at all to them. So yeah the college been really good with help me with what I've done balance it just. I make use of our time so I got an hour at the gym for my one if I'm trying to load a session a gym going our lunch by a luncheon maybe the best study in all of our college work or if. Some taught the college in my education the ways that power of never let get to a point where my G.M. Is going to overtake college and eventually university in a job because of sim boys don't know just if they get a really bad injury and that's them done for Jim they've got nothing to fall back on and I guys that caused a trifle time which is good they become better nice but I've got nothing to fall back on if I get a really bad injury so if I need to take a better line even off Jim is a farmer like because I understand over there is a life outside you Gnostics That's gotta be done so for me to college work or you have a school work when it was at the time Evan was fine with a max what looks names come up obviously he's got various sponsors behind him and things funding kind of isn't an issue for him but for people who are trying to make something it's hard isn't it Jim. It's a sport it's not funded in the same way of cycling and rowing things out there is it's can be a struggle Yeah absolutely so. It's difficult for me getting sponsorship because of her compete for Scotland but I live here so if I ask a sponsorship from Inverness for example and I was to supply those popular. They get no business off me where in that issue down here because I want to watch their money and vice versa source caution Aston doesn't a great job so yeah it's difficult getting. The funding because. I'm so funded completely squash Gnostic subsidize some international trips. Based largely at my parents' pocket and since I've been at the gym of dread to think what played out sort of tens of thousands of pounds just on sort Faison care accommodation or arts or carry on sixpence a business that does that affect mentally what your your plans long term because you think it costs costs so much money yeah maybe there's an end point yeah. After a minute so after 2020 term thinking I would have to call a day or just financially end of the life has to move on there's no life out of the gymnastics so I say. There's just I financially and my parents can't afford Durbar So those it's expensive business of if you're 40 come from a wealthy background money's no object I mean but for us or the parents of a place of so it's not major in wages and haven't just. Get by or other things have been sacrificed. From a slot I'm 18 just turned 18 yesterday but if he can start driving 17 I never did that because the money that would have been set aside went into the gym. So yeah it is expensive business but you wouldn't change it service the you have completed now as I say job you can only. As a such a short shelf life as you can do in a national context for your country in any sport. So the drive in a way ever can come later so I don't regret any of it because the experience of had in the people of man the place of bed you can't trade off is been incredible what I can still do is encourage you and just travel about those not
