Radio Sheffield who is in Sheffield forces even green and Liz Good evening Russell Good evening so the exit poll has come out it certainly sounds busy behind you what's the scene at the moment Yeah well there are 6 constituencies counting here at the English Institute of Sport and that's a clip of Sheffield those constituencies. Sheffield brought side in Hillsborough Sheffield Hallam Sheffield south east Sheffield central Sheffield Healy and Penn Astin and stocks bridge. There I would say personally there are 2 possible changes that are going to happen tonight of course there's always a chance there could be more but the 2 that we've really got our eye on opposite in stocks bridge and Sheffield Hallam a bit about the the history of those states 1 May be fairly familiar to people might have been following the story of the labor and then independent m.p. Jarrett a moderate he is the judge who toppled in the Clegg from the Sheffield Hallam seat in 2070 much to a lot of people's surprise including his own but he's got a very difficult tenure as the m.p. . A lot of problems mental health issues he's been away from work for a lot of the time he left the Labor Party became an independent and closed his constituency office he's barely voted in tolerance and he hasn't really done a lot of representing of local people. So it's very much expected that the Liberal Democrats who've had their own eye on this seat ever since labor to be formed in $270.00 will gain the box simply because. They haven't really done the people of Sheffield Hallam any favors in selecting Jarrett and moderate and the experience they've had in the last 2 and a half years it's worth mentioning as well for like Sheffield Hallam you look at it as a seat and it's stunning for labor. For the Liberal Democrats the only requires it is quite short majorities of just over 2000 maybe a 1.9 percent swing is what it will take I mean when you've been talking to the candidates you've been following them throughout this campaign what is there a high degree of confidence among the liberals that they that they can get this back I think there is Laura Gordon has been the prospective candidates almost. Almost as soon as. Nick Clegg kind of left the area to be honest with you I think the Lib Dems knew that you know there was always the chance of another snap election they wanted to get somebody in the has been more than 2 years and she's been you know doing a lot of work for local people in general De Mars absence so she certainly known in the area that said Olivia Blake has been a Sheffield councillor for some time and she was the deputy leader of the council as well for a while although she did resign from the position. Because of a. Sort of local route over the way that the way that Sheffield city council is Rome so she stepped down to support a campaign to change the way decisions are made city council she is still a council and Labor has been working quite hard since the election was called to try and secure all that seat but I think perhaps the Lib Dems have been working a bit harder for longer and there there is a very strongly vote in that. All the counselors alleged them counselors so like I say I think although there has been a lot of dissatisfaction with the level Democrats in falls of Sheffield particularly with Nick Clegg going into the coalition and the way they voted with the Tories on on a number of number of policies I suspect in this particular constituency which is one of the more affluent in Sheffield I think it's very likely the Lib Dems will take it back it's also remain seat remember and the Lib Dems are the main party so 60 percent of people voted remain one of only 2 remain seats in the Sheffield area so. I don't want to say for definite because you know I could have egg on my face but. As of this morning it is certainly one of the ones that we're expecting to change the other one being punished and stocks bridge which is incredibly close is that this is even less than less of a majority this is about 1300 is not yet it's very close it's always been a relatively close race between the Conservatives and Labor but Labor have always come through although it is quite a young constituency a memory exam got written down in front of me actually I believe it was created in 2010. So it's not you can't look back in the annals of times to say Oh it's always been solid this one way or the other because it was subject to boundary changes and and was created relatively recently but it has been Labor Angela Smith was the m.p. But it was a direct voting constituency and Angela Smith was very much a remain and in the end she decided to jump ship she went to change u.k. Or the independent group which became change u.k. She then became independent herself and eventually became a liberal Democrat so if a new m.p. Only party is elected this evening if either the top. Raise all the greens all the . Elected then it will be less of a thing Labor change u.k. . For for sort of version of a. Car if you like that the constituencies have justice here. Is the spice of life Liz Yes well quite I mentioned greens there but actually the not standing up constituency of his look to get there's only 4 candidates Labor Liberal Democrats. And Conservative Party so it's being close between labor in the Conservatives it's highly likely that the conservatives will take that seat for the 1st time I think given what we just heard about the exit poll that sounding even more likely to be honest with you now it's a busy evening going to be ahead when you expect in the 1st result there in Sheffield because I don't think you're going to be some Dylan the Newcastle really don't know where they go I think. I want I want to be optimistic and say sort of $33.00. There it there are so many constituencies that. In the past although obviously it's a different time of year now they've had slightly lower century central in particular which means they tend to get counted a little bit quicker doesn't mean to say that I won't be here till. Behind you if that is in fact the right word it's still too early to say I'm guessing not many people in attendance just yet not yet know at the post office are being counted and ballot boxes haven't arrived just at this moment in time. Expecting those in the next few minutes here. A few people arrive from the various parties but not many office of the big names in the Wakefield. Area of course last time the 3 seats which are being counted here in Wakefield tonight all labor as Mary crane Wakefield effect Cooper in Normanton points back to Castleford and John Trickett in Hemsworth none of them are here as yet I'm sure they're getting ready to come down later on if this opinion poll is correct there could be some big changes here in the Wakefield area but West Yorkshire is well known for its marginals we've got 22 seats in total and a lot of those tend to go back and forth so we could see changes outside of Wakefield district in other parts of the county as well you know well just having a look and speculation coming in in terms of which seats have been likely. Gains or labor holds and labor gains and Wakefield as a seat is pictures a big they say on the b.b.c. Election special in a likely conservative gain I mean it has been a fantastically tight race there hasn't. Absolutely and I think the u.k. Of m.r.p. Opinion polls which to try and analyze things by constituency level or to have happened during the campaign both have predicted that Wakefield would go conservative but it hasn't been necessarily a smooth campaign for the conservatives in Wakefield their original counted and had to step down after some Facebook posts emerged and he was replaced with a conservative candidate who is standing tonight in Iran Ahmed car who literally parachuted into the city actually got in a plane went up there and jumped out in a parachute when he was announced as the candidate here so certainly a bit of a character but of course Mary Craig is one of Labour's big hitters she's chaired the environmental audit committee for a number of years now and is well known within the party Ok so I mean you all are constantly speaking to candidates across West Yorkshire this has be they say one of the tightest elections to call I mean you must have had so many different candidates and so many advisors giving you their versions of what's going on Has everybody gone Simon to the moment or your phone buzzin Kevin. A bit of both I haven't spoken to anyone directly since the exit poll came out but it was very old Ross in the sense of the direction seemed to be pointing towards this exit poll forecast you know lots of conservatives were telling me that they were doing much much better in places that they'd never done well before particularly in places like council estates and so on. But then they. Think that Labor people were also saying it was tough going but there seemed to be a bit of a 2017 memory there and the conservatives didn't want to get overconfident and the conservatives were very nervous so it seems about smooth that way but I did speak to one labor staffer. Yesterday who said to me that they don't necessarily believe it was at the root of the switch to the conservative base had for every vote they were losing to the conservatives because they were losing 3 or 4 to have a conservative because of Jeremy Corbett they were saying it was more of a leadership issue than a breakfast issue I see it now we expect the sort of results probably around 3 o'clock in the morning where you are Kevin. I hope so but you tend to be a bit late I think I think they came in about 5 am I mean I'll be honest I'm hoping that it's 3 am if not sooner. Aside from York Central is as I recall York the North Yorkshire in general ease is quite blue in nature. It is indeed most of North Yorkshire is play home to some of the se faced conservative states in the country they have all have quite sizable majority however there are 3 that we've been thanks spectating to keep an eye on tonight one is our guests and as for the other is your county Why because they form part of the remain alliance this is the deal that was John the Green Party stood aside. And that was an attempt to try and consolidate the remain vote so your cow to the Liberal Democrats have heavily campaigned he is sending out quite a lot of campaign literature to try and push forward here now I've already spoken to feel a barrage of if they were hoping to retain they were hoping to win your house are they you said they were the only ones to defeat the Conservative Party here now in light of that I'd sleep all in I suspect what they've been hearing and seeing on the ground today then they're hoping that they will still remain in 2nd place so I think they've they've almost given up hope of taking you out there and he I think puts the potential. Failure is the strongest weapon the potential failure to achieve the seat all the putting it down to any reason in particular because they've they've been working very very hard in that constituency. Well I think at the moment it's a bit of a blur for them the still trying to get their heads around what appears to be quite a sizable majority certainly in light of recent general elections we've had the exit polls predicting a big majority for the conservatives No Dick grab Rachel Murphy girl who has been the York Central m.p. Since 2015 for a quick chat she said she's very disappointed very worried about what a conservative majority could mean for people in New York for the country she says there's a lot of complicated fact is that the party have to work through they have to listen to what the electorate are telling us now after 3 or 4 telling. About Jeremy Corbyn how long he could stay as leader she wouldn't be drawn on it she wouldn't say he needs to be out tomorrow and she says Jeremy will have to review everything in South have a real look at what the issues are combat fighting although when I then pushed her again she said in the longer term we will have to have a look at what leadership looks like so you know I think you can almost feel the force is gathering Ok well we'll leave it there thank you very much nice to talk to that Gemma Gemma Dillon our political reporter b.b.c.
