Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro raising money for premature and sick baby charity bliss and this is because she lost her twin daughters in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy 8 years ago she too reckon 2020 transfusion syndrome will be speaking to a guy. Now he's from Milton Keynes and he's been swimming. Bike riding a marathon running. Money for the women hospice will find out more about what he's doing and what he hopes to achieve and how much he's trying to raise and that of course we do my superfood and that quiz I'd like you to join in. With the with today super food its health benefits of spiraling out of control but what is it that's coming up with 8 in 10 on the health. This is the best health show on B.B.C. 3 Counties radio. Yes a good evening well this is the 1st half I'm on the show for the evening so we've got a mix of our own health but we've got lots of new stuff coming in as well so if you've never cheated the house it's all about you all about some great stories are happening across the 3 counties hotbeds and box but are always like have a little charter topic of discussion and I'd love you to join me and so today I'm going to be asking you this Should there be a rating scheme in public buildings to show how accessible they are to those with a disability What do you think that's exactly what campaigns are actually asking for in the Welsh Assembly there for that yesterday they won't places like surgeries shops and restaurants to actually have a sticker in their windows that gives them the rating similar to the hygiene rating scheme that you might see when you get to a restaurant or something and now they also also began life in Wales before being rolled out across the rest of the country so it's already in some places but the hygiene ratings he was in and that was rolled out and they're suggesting that perhaps you could have a rating for disability as well and again that could start in Wales and then our recent research of disability quality charities go as found that 3 in 5 disabled people have experience problems with physical access while shopping and 2 in 5 say negative attitudes to retail staff have impacted their day to day lives so what do you reckon would be useful if you knew Actually this one's a 2 which means it's not that accessible but it has some access this one is a 5 so it's good do you think that would be useful do you think and perhaps some organizations but actually work hard to try and become really high up on the scheme like like when you go to a hotel and it's got 5 stars maybe an organization could have a 5 star rating so what do you think What are your thoughts so what I'm asking is should there be a rating scheme in PA. To show how accessible the disability you can get in touch with. 8. You can text me all 8133 star you know. I'd love to get you he's well you can tweet me at B.B.C. 3 C. Let's kick things off with a tight. Live A teacher for a moment is set to climb Africa's highest peak in memory of her twin daughters Jackie Newell she's climbing Mount Kilimanjaro raising money for premature and sick baby charity bliss now this is a incredible charity and it's interesting with these kind of charities you only usually find out about them when you're in a situation where you turn to them and Jackie is actually it comes to her because she sadly lost her twin daughters in a 3rd trimester of pregnancy 8 years ago due to a rare condition called 2025 she joins me on the line now Hello Jackie welcome to the show. Helen and I thank you so much for allowing me to show this evening. That they be lost when the sweet so just a really good opportunity just to speak your listeners and just give them a chance to just understand what P.T.S.D. Is all those contested charities out there that are able to support people going through such horrendous and distressing times. It really. Can even begin to think how awful that must be because you carry these incredible little things for the full time of the pregnancy can you tell us kind of what is 22 and syndrome and how does it happen and when does it start usually. Of course so normally. It is a very kind of high risk pregnancy which tends to be diagnosed in the 2nd trimester . T. T. S. S. Is not an imbalance blood flow between the babies as they share the same center and problem the problem is there's a disproportionate distribution of blood in the placenta which normally was built in put nourishments all put a full growth of one of the twins. So it means that you know that the woman would have to undergo specialist care we were having to be scanned once a week so very high risk pregnancies so you knew that there was an IF you when did you realize about this so we knew in our 2nd trimester that there were there was a problem especially as we were dying while the twins were mana chorionic twins so we knew were told quite a rough ride. That more mana money chorionic means that the the baby shower present for our case that's the word to describe that. And you know we had the most incredible care very very lucky to have very high end care and specialist looking after us but unfortunately at 27 weeks we. Sorry. We lost our 1st daughter Ashley terrible and then went on and. Sadly when I work way you know it but it's like when you when we were Russian for as fiction emergency c section and said he didn't have much time with Ashley Cole passed away me to say but a Jessica we were very lucky enough to have. Sorry. For a week and it was just so it was it was a very distressing time as it is for many of these parents to go through these very distressing times but I think with all of these types of things it's just math odds you know either you can allow the world to kind of just. You know just swallow you all it's a matter of moving forward mindfully with intention and kind of doing something really positive or. How do you cope with something when something happens. It's it's very distressing it's one of the most traumatic things I think any person can ever go through and I you know the saddest thing is you don't know you don't actually ever expect to be one of those people one of those texts. You know it's we were one in 4. Where you know people are losing their babies you know either through prematurity or sickness and you know we were just very lucky to have incredible support from our very very mazing kind of valuable friends very loyal friends but also from not from our work. Who were incredibly supportive and very patient. And fabulous fall. I think a lot of people don't realize these things and these wonderful organization is actually there to support you know I have some empathy for you because in my son ivory was born prematurely at 28 weeks and 3 days and he was in the special care baby unit and the work of some of the start off and it's just incredible is that they really help you get through what is a frightening and can be very tragic and devastating time. Lately he absolutely it's it's incredible how these people work so tirelessly. And little so ready to kind of you know. Degrade them and accuse them of all sorts of things that they are working absolutely tirelessly you know 24 hours a day trying to you know how these very fragile and very vulnerable babies it's just incredible and and so now you're raising money for the charity bliss tell us a bit about what to the. List is an organization poor babies talk on premature effect and as we know they are children to keep babies at Mexican simulator care day and they are kind of the champion White for every baby who go on to receive the best can support. You know that they are quite incredible and and this this is a poignant moment for you as well because you're raising money to try and climb Mount Kilimanjaro I'm sure you do but. It is it is that we. Live on the 9th of February which is day one of. 2 Kilimanjaro. This is just another opportunity you know just to take up a different challenge but the trying to raise funds hopeless. And this will be our 2nd challenge that my husband and I have undertaken just to try and support these different charities well. This is a fascinating day. I think it is the think it might play a track in the making if we can come back and find out more about your plans for that climate how much your high paying to raise thank you thank you so much wonderful if you just joined a queer This is B.B.C. 3 Counties Radio speaking to Jackie she's raising money for bliss and she's planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. A Now that's what's a crisis very roughly half that Jackie I'm going to ask you because this is not just the 1st thing that you've done to raise money for place you've done something else as well what else have you embarked on. A couple years ago my husband and I went on a husky to Ari no way to Sweden when we were camping in subzero conditions and we're very lucky to raise 1175 pounds for work. And then another one and a half pounds for a special. I mean incredible I mean it's so good it's so good that there are people like you out there doing this and the thing is these these places seem a little bit underfunded for the amount of work on the staff dedicated now on this next mission how much you have been to raise. Well I. Limit of 2000 pounds which I'm hoping to raise. Obviously hoping to raise a lot more RAM but 2000 pounds is enough to be able to just support a few babies for a couple of months but as you know as I'm sure you're aware they're used in the Skippy unit is so critically expensive. Just you know anything to be able to support these charities are you know is always very beneficial and helpful it's true I mean I know from experience and also from speaking to those at the nickel unit in the Dunstable that the monitors and one baby one unit to support one babies about 100000 pounds lately everything and anything that he can do to to help and bring more money towards those kind of areas is amazing and people are interested and want to donate where can they guy. Are there actually I'll read what was what So he's already come in with his band Ben said message and said Shouldn't all places just be accessible where possible Yeah that's a good point actually what why should it be that place actually should have a rating and then Christie's actually followed his message this was on line I agree with Ben's opinion about the accessibility application but since that's unlikely to happen instantly I suspect that the writings would be very useful I'd love to hear your thoughts perhaps you have a disability and you would love to know how accessible somewhere is before you get that. Double Double 8 lines open I'd love to hear from you because that's hard to. Believe he's not a player. Right now a man from Milton Keynes he's here he's been swimming trail running bike riding and marathon running all through this years to raise money for cause close to his heart was the overpass is raising money for the will the hospice after is different his father passed away last year and he'll see me traveling to green that where he'll be running in a Barath and he joins me in the studio a welcome to say Wesley Good evening I'm very impressed you're running running is you know I don't like running here or you just I'm not sorry no I really do enjoy running Fortunately that's good perhaps not much I've initiated but yeah so I thought I could enjoy. How many sporting events you dogs you look quite fit anyway thank you you know you look like you're on a so yeah so I've been running for a few years particularly. Top off Marfan's and 3. 1 on Sunday just gone one juice on the last hour. And you know wished you. When I am in between Park and the tram when you mentioned earlier in Switzerland in July that the mountain had these over to raise money yeah they're all to raise money for the bill in hospice so I'm dedicating 2018 to women and tomato friend's dad as well . To try and make some money for women. On donations so I try to do my bit so some to get some money from it and hospice saying credible how much you're hoping to raise on this particular set myself a target of 2000 pounds for myself I've got team so it's not just me so it's my wife Lisa as well she's been running not all of them with me but she did what a half Martin you know Haynes and she did a 10 K. With me as well and my mom as well so you know I want to do absolutely she wanted 5 K. This Sunday just going well and sorry that was because they were all politicians or we've got a team target of $3000.00 pounds which would be nice to be actually so I still manage to do what we get now is there is a bonus that's really good yeah city Magid and you also not long come back trail where you completed a trial run and the Elks at night was that. I underestimated quite how hard it was how you. Know it's well know it so I'm yeah I did if I had taught and I wasn't the best prepared when I left I had to make that I didn't take much while she was which meant I spent most of time coming down sleeping I evolved and running down but that was it was interesting scary they're running at night on an arm and a mountain is really because you know you've got to go because you don't come off the edge quite steep as well it was very steep really 1000 mixes the 2 things I despise the most running and they heights you know I don't like heights most of the rest of you like they're just you do that oh did you know that it was quite a few people doing it. Is good fun if you're just Freddie Mercury thing too as well which was which was quite nice actually about running in so let's just start with my Flash Gordon T. Shirt on and you're not looking the part where. That's not going to look at any cost I don't really do that's great so you've been raising money and then what kind of a person what was your friend's father I was lovely he was a great man. I've known him but it knew him for pretty 20 years plus I would say. So I mean my friend is pretty nice my best mate really aspirated so I. Spent a lot of time with Norm going to the cricket and you know going out and actually really quite so close to me so it was it was really sad when he did pass away last year so. I really wanted to try and see what did he say the year to him and to try and get some good from you know the sort tragic events real
