See you K. Such 3 counties on F.M. AM digital and all B.B.C. Sounds these is were that B.B.C. 3 Counties radio. Can often welcome if you've just joined us those travel news every 50 minutes the best news stories for beds some bucks the big story they clearly is this closure get we care put not expected to reopen until at least 7 o'clock tonight because of this incursion by more one or more drones how would you solve this drone crisis Gatwick airport you can take the show you can call us of course Oh wait oh it one double 0 double and then we'll talk about whether it should be a pension as a result the actor Ricky Tomlinson says he wants to say gray rage it starts with a conversation about protecting the free license fee free T.V. License for anyone in this country age 75 and over it is very much at risk at the moment but is there a wider conversation to be had about doing more for a lot of people. We have lots of issues in this country you want to wear off but as you get older you know fine saw you suddenly become invisible. And. Go from. Just enjoy. This. Let's get. Let's get. Let's go just. Go. On a. down down to me that jackson's fate me those false for this message says robe hof saw 6 police colby all me into a system in dealing with a crumb consoling the drone it got would go have the all me being cold ng to deal with an act of multan day wolf it warfare is the army's rim is it not know the police cat and cold in the all may if they want to have it it's there's they're all systems in place of they want to a they can call in any kind help they want it is unusual but it seems the all we have been golding to help in this but You know. Get we're careful and it's where we'll start this conversation again because we told you in the last 1520 minutes that the British police called the for help from the army to deal with the drone incident again were careful and their own source has told the B.B.C. That flights to and from Gatwick Airport are canceled until at least 7 o'clock tonight after another drone was spotted at lunchtime today now more than 700 flights have now been canceled since drones were 1st seen in the vicinity last night the disruption is total the prime minister trees May says the perpetrators face a presence and we've already passed legislation in relation to the use of drones and it is now has been made clear that activity we've seen is illegal and those who are caught in danger in aircraft can face up to 5 years in prison but we will continue to work with the Catholic authorizes in the place only working with the Catholic authorizes in order to bring this to a close the Chief Constable of Sussex Police Giles York is confident that those responsible will be found it is a particularly challenging situation that we're seeing it get this afternoon my heart goes out to all of those families and others whose lives have been disrupted by some incredibly stupid behavior by maybe an individual a couple of individuals and we will find them absolutely certain that we'll have the links in order to be able to find them well as told to go in go to govern is the operations director at a better future based company they called blue and they develop unmanned flight systems given very good afternoon to you. Thank you very very mean pleasure when we talk about unmanned flight systems what do we mean. Well we're talking about systems and platforms apartment being the unmanned aircraft but the systems on board those aircraft is also the company that I work for we develop not just the the flight because they're also the onboard electronics the onboard navigation systems that allow these systems to fly automatically. I think we said before we spoke certainly with welcome aware of that of the company very successful company you tend to deal with perhaps the more sophisticated and sophisticated end of the market. We look at the technology that's going to be needed in you know years ahead rather than technology that might be turned to or looking at the valid thing and working with other companies in academia to develop those technologies and that also includes technologies that might be used in the counter new series Well OK Given how do we quantify what a drone is because I think there are people listening who you know they will know what a drone is yeah it's a good question I think many people see many years ago that may seem drones as just military aircraft watching things like the war in Afghanistan or other similar theaters and that they think they're a drone is a weaponized aircraft that it's flown by an operator is not in the cockpit but it's also small platforms like we're seeing being perhaps used to disrupt today rotorcraft that you can buy for a modest amount of money from online commerce sites or perhaps things that people can create from a killer part drones are really ultimately they're unmanned aircraft which rather very automated or can be operated remotely I create distance by an operator the stuff the military doing is mind boggling of course in the commercial world of the world of photography and filming has been transformed we are getting a view of the world never had before thanks to professional drone top of us. Absolutely the use of drones for. Some T.V. Has as you say transformed what we can see and you know I don't know all the operators professional operation U.K. Say that probably 90 percent plus are using their grounds responsibly for doing just that for capturing images on B.B.C. You know they likely find it its interests that are they you know needs are these are things that traditionally we don't buy helicopters and know are almost exclusively done by drones and then there's the some 40 or so recently it is really difficult to film this but it was sort of the central London literally flying over the Thames and then up along Regent Street it was extremely we seen that sort of vision of the will vote but it's very That's where these very heavily controlled You can't just start doing what you want absolutely the 2 to operate a drone commercially in the U.K. Requires you to have clearance and assortments Civil Aviation Authority and the only way you can do that is produce an operating and operational safety case is clearly defined how you're going to do it and how are you going to do that safely and the complexity of the operational case where somewhere like London is significant and it takes years of calling your your approach to safety and your operational procedures to get that sort of clearance gammon in this sort of case that's affecting get with camp or. If they catch the drone if they can pick up the drone with AIDS or them with a baby they shoot it down will they be able to trace the person behind his operating it by just having the drone itself. It's not entirely clear where the you know how much information they may be able to get for you know my view of what's happening in all this is a very sophisticated and prepare for. Disruption of the transportation system a very busy time of the. And it's possible because of that that then eventually doing this has taken a great deal of. Time in preparation to cover their tracks but I'm sure there are there aspects that they may find of the argot may have to do it but there's no no current registration system runs and the registration system controllers which is planned would only work for a legally used ones as well someone wants to use a grown seriously they're going to do everything they can to cover will cover their tracks in the industry of drones and are making a drone fly of course the concern has always been that somebody might do exactly what's happened at Gatwick today and the. Global uses become because you know you don't tend to show an airport for this long for this sort of event is there also a danger that this might somehow inspire other people to start doing stupid things in their efforts. But always a risk with any technology any new technology that people can see that they can use to Destructo to their advantage is always a risk and you can buy really capable system off the internet for very little money that has you know high degrees of autonomy but perhaps not high degrees of persistence and I think what we're seeing because we still this ongoing situation that the system is in use has been picked because it can be used and it compacts can be preprogrammed and do a lot of automated sequences over a period of time it is quite difficult perhaps to do that unless you have significant knowledge but I didn't say that people may try to complete that in future. Kevin. To his the operations director of the company. They develop unmanned flight systems. That he didn't. Break down. Around. Like. From Gatwick Airport from the bank suspended. Field. Travel from. Christmas traffic to please let me stay safe please. Said It's unclear when it will be safe to reopen the road. Following several sightings of drones above V.F.L. The destruction began last night but officials say the unmanned aircraft was spotted again in the last couple of hours Official figures show nearly $600.00 homeless people died in the wells last year a rise of almost a quarter over the past 5 years the study by the Office for National Statistics suggest that homeless people typically die in the early to mid forty's with drug poisoning and suicide is a common cause of death and the Watford box and the Joshua has been presented with an A B A A Buckingham Palace by Prince Charles he said the owner of recognize is all he's done to achieve it the weather the beds not some bugs and a few showers heading away seeming to cause fits pots and busts B.B.C. 3 Counties radio. Failing stamens get off the news says Rob The authorities need to have measures in place to deal with drones but what measures that's the best quicker than ones scratching their heads over Steve's unloading state get off the names they've done a right very well so welcome to the show Steve you want to talk about drones I dare you. Anyone my. Mind. Allows people to plug into the computer and turn off all the ask. What it is when you 1st saw it you know how it was nice rise up right here comes with. 400. Not have to fly more for you think I will go into the whole program dating from star right. Then a cell manufacturer allows you to plug into that computer talking to a computer. For the safety measures yes this is a problem we have and it's one of them. I'm not going to if you think it's not please please done. One of my one allows you to plug it into a computer and everything will. Go a lot of people takes me saying Look one of the one of the commas A keeps coming through is by drones now as terrible as this disruption again we kiddies there are . Knows how many 500 sounds that people use these drone safely because they can take great pictures of that that goes on of them yes yes I need to tell you if I need to actually stop the software out right so I want to turn off all the safety aspect but if the Senate tronic even if you could somehow ban or remove the software capability when it just crop up somewhere else on the on the bless it Internet. Well yeah I'd probably say to people I was never a child child anything cos if I'm with a far smaller then yes hold my drawing room even stall it will not take off it will not do anything really sense to stick at. It will know I should cut off it will tell monocytogenes dollars on confession across the square he's not. Nice you can do nothing sorry for the sky somewhere else. That is so into every talk you know if you call I can ask you when you get you driving up and you're pressing it safely how much flowing tonge if you had a battery well on us rageful I won 25 minutes on average 2025 minutes to find it was windy conditions things on. Average try and. Will give you between 15 and 20 minutes and I want to clarify one point Ortiz no cars he employs for shocks you found. When you thought I would only do $100.00. And a 100 for a life I will not say I would cause any problems OK So what do you think is happening again awake who do you think the series ought to be able to so I haven't actually thought that I'm safe about what's going on with a no on the nose someone does I she might. Go to flight restrictions time or he's going on an timetable or is going on inside of all. It's just well cause enough problems or people to actually do it properly restate faithful. That's causing us problems because they will give They are going to point out. A few years ago I was a loss and this was only about just I recall 100 pounds to get a license and I was 1500 pounds. But you know they got to clamp down on this once they find out who and what has caused us into a getaway because and then I'm a drip has been shut down they will take immediate action. If it's not right just. Then. OK this is one of if they actually catch the drug if they catch the the biggest flaw anything . They won't necessarily be able to find out who's behind who's flying it. Is if it's actually registered on. Lines are just right right as a particular website you got there or not this little out just in case you lose or draw are still a somewhat of an upright Wolf I don't type in the card find out it belongs to my avatar to get me but Steve great talking to thank you for your wisdom and of a Merry Christmas. In Luton will come back it's going to look at Want to talk about this but I also need to bring this story to your attention because almost 600 homeless people died in England and Wales last year according to officials figures between public for the very 1st time the figure represents a rise of 24 percent over 5 years according to the N.S.A. The Office for National Statistics and they just they just gather data numbers these are the 1st official estimates of the number of deaths of homeless people which show more than 80 percent of them were many charities say the numbers confirm what they are seen locally then humble stone is from the openness OK how drugs and suicide account for just over half of the deaths of homeless people whereas they account for only 3 percent in the general population that's a big difference and producing that information will help decision makers take the right interventions to help prevent that happening in our part of the world in the eastern region of the birds outside box there were 33 deaths in 2017 while the 2 worst regions were London and the northwest with 136 and 119 deaths respectively we talked to Sam Price who is the interagency officer for homelessness in bet that sound very good afternoon to give us a name and welcome to the program this is the 1st time figures like this have ever been released and they are quite shocking these will this help us solve or even understand better the issue of homelessness on our streets. And she's saying both of these are shocking figures but I don't think they come as a surprise sadly to anybody who is working in homelessness people who are on the front line unfortunately see this day in day out and it is a sad fact that you know people who are roughly things peculiarly as well as those who are in hostels or not shelters but mainly those who are rough they think it's a very very dangerous lifestyle you know the report that came out today said the average age of death is 44 years old which is just unbelievably low and quite scary we can only begin to imagine the misery of being homeless of course but I don't think many people imagine that people die from being homeless in these sort of numbers. Less so it's good that the report is out I think it also kicked off through the Bureau of Investigative Journalism they started collating figures back in October 27th so they've been doing it for over a year now and it's given them a much better picture of how many people are actually dying on our streets there was that report Well just 2 days ago somebody died in Westminster didn't I but earlier in the year obviously there was a really shocking death just yards from the Houses of Parliament and it's it's not good that the public are being made aware of this but it is in a way because it's raising awareness of just how dangerous and how deadly life on the streets can bear you know it is important this is your right because it you know ultimately we all part of the way but you will supposed to die in a civilized country like Great Britain because you're homeless because you've been are somehow slipped through the safety net that we. Shouldn't be the case. Absolutely I couldn't agree with you more and I think one of the shocking figures this that 13 percent of all those homeless deaths were due to suicide compared to less than one percent in the general population and that kind of bears out what what we've been researching in the homelessness sector both locally and nationally in terms of mental health issues amongst people who are rough sleeping and are homeless which is much higher than in the general population and so you get into age the officer forms the scene but the world is the picture like him better now as you begin to head into into winter proper. So in but but I know we've spoken about this previously we were fortunate in June this year to receive some government funding from central government from the Ministry of Housing communities local government just over 300000 pounds and that's unable just to put in place some really good initiatives or a rough sleepers particularly over the winter so we've got an extra 20 winter beds this year which are open from November until March they're open every night regardless of the temperatures which means that if another 20 people don't have to sleep rough that may have had free press last year so that's incredible as well as that when the temperature drops below 0 for 3 consecutive nights we will also open up what's called our severe weather emergency protocol the swept facility which is run by the amazing folks out Salvation Army so they open up the hole and people can go and have a bed for the night and a meal so that they're all things in place I think we're better place than we were last winter but there's still so much more to be done so thank you joining us wish you well Oh Merry Christmas to you some price thanks agency officer for homelessness in Bedford. And B.B.C. 3 counties were.
